@flaw07 Its a fact, sadly surface discharge is a common practice in the rivers around Lough Derg, call up the Ennis council, they grant permission to many others its not just the Hse at Raheenwood, and as far as I am aware "illegal dumping" is illegal!!! LOL!!! and of course is not allowed in or around the lake. And as for the formaldehyde smog coming out of the Scarriff chipboard factory, not to mention the massive fines Europe are imposing on our nation for our filthy water ways!
Man that lake is an open sewer! The HSE and many others have been discharging their sewage into lough derg for years - and Clare co. council give them all permission!!!
I was the cameraman of this video. We always practise catch&release! I think the pike was about 26lbs. We hired the boat from a Dutch friend who has a tackleshop, B&B and boat rental in Killaloo. The bait on which the 42" was caught was a soft bait, called Giant Grub.
@ciaranhill14 We hired the boats from FisHerman (google is your friend). He has a couple of full equiped boats available at the jetty in Killaloo.

Linnintek I think you need to check your facts again.
Your statement is completely untrue.
The facts are
Lough Derg is one of the most beautiful lakes in Ireland with loads of history attached to it and amazing scenery
Clare & Tipperary county councils are very strict on the lake and do NOT allow any sewage or illegal dumping in the lake or around it.

This man also knows that a left-hand multiplier is best and natural, just like
99% of left hand fixed spool reels.
Americans still trying to con you into
right hand wind, just to be different
a very bad idea which has lost millions-------------------- of $/£'s to the major fishing
reel manufacturers over the last 40+ years
due to this American illogical system of right hand multiplier retrieve
total madness
-well chosen reel Dutchman!!!!
