What I wrote earlier was a listing of British mistreatment of the Jews. "The British were brutal to the Jews after the Balfour Declaration. They sat by and watched as Arab repeatedly massacred Jews in cold blood and did nothing." This was part of a list and not meant to be in chronological order at all. Although the massacres and the Palestinian Revolt occurred after the Balfour Declaration there was plenty of violence leading up this which was the reason for Bar-Giora & HaShomer.

Of course desolate land. I have read numerous passages from highly reliable sources who visited Palestine somewhere between the mid-to-late 1800s (including Mark Twain, British officers, and others who all attested to how desolate it was. I am not saying that all Palestinians immigrated there but most did and now claim it was their homeland.They came from surrounding Arab countries to work for the British between WWI and WWII.

And in the case of Israel it is not just rooted in the pride of Jews for their heritage but is also rooted in their religion. You would feel no differently if you were born Jewish.

@Darusdei As far as finding flaws with Israel - all countries have flaws but you'd have to experience the feeling of being surrounding by countries that are hostile to you and want you eliminated to understand why Israel does some of the things it does to protect itself and its citizens. They are one of the most humanitarian countries in the entire world.

Significant Arab massacres may have started after the Balfour Declaration but there was plenty of Arab terrorism and aggression well before that. In 1909 Ben Gurion volunteered with HaShomer, a force of volunteers who helped guard isolated Jewish agricultural communities that were being attacked on a regular basis. If there were military exercises they were designed to protect Jews from the murderous Arabs..

It is highly relevant to our debate since the British essentially conquered and owned Palestine and it was therefore their right to grant part of it for a Jewish state. If the Arabs had won all the wars they started they would have a right of return but since they chose war over peace it would be foolish for Israel to simply let more of them in - not even their fellow Arab countries want these people.
