An economic boom in the 1960's in Europe meant that people had more disposable income, but taxes on engine displacement, growing fuel costs and the cost of parking (because unlike the US, most of Europeans end up having to rent extra parking spaces!) meant that huge cars were just too much cost and a pain! Something the size of a motorbike and the same cost and tax, but with advantages of a car? Awesome. Sad that it didn't catch on. Americans are too narrow minded to take to it :(

There are only 31 known Peel Tridents and 28 Peel p50s on the Peel register. Never heard about a 125cc p50 - are you confusing the 99cc Triumph Tina engined Tridents. Most Peels are classified as Tricycles in the UK

Probably is, since only 50 of the P50's were made. This father/son team has a good percentage of total Peel cars ever made. I'm sure this was a good investment choice for them,....but it sure would be hard to part with a mint P50 !!!!
