To everybody wondering how to divide a rectangle into thirds: Check out my newly uploaded video for my method to obtain dividing any size rectangular paper (A4, Copy Paper, Index card, Square origami paper). Please thumbs up this comment if you check it out and comment on the video. :)
@ItsDaHand You can always estimate and adjust: put the paper into an S-shape and shift the paper until the three parts (top of s, bottom of s, connection between top and bottom of s) are about the same length. I don't know an "exact" method as shown in this video for A4 from the top of my head, although there will be various ways. I'm not sure, maybe Robert Lang's ReferenceFinder can compute it. that depends on whether it only handles squares, or whether you can specify a rectangle instead.
@ItsDaHand Fold the superior side with the lateral. Then make a fold on the side that crosses the paper so you got a square, unfold the first fold and work like it was square, once you are down unfold the second fold and you'll get your A4 in thirds :)
Thanks! finally someone who can help me with my origami without having me to think at all! now i can finally make a tarantula. (well i already could've but i didn't feel like it)
Finally!! Even in professional origami books they don't show how to divide paper into thirds. Thanks for the instruction. Now I can do those models that require paper folded into thirds.
try to use a large sheet first, to test the model and get used to the method, then try a smaller peice. a square made from A4 paper usually gets good results. use good quality thin paper.
Thanks, Sara ! Another nicely done, helpful foundation instruction . By the way, I'm mystified by the neat way that black magic marker marks magically appear and disappear as you unfold flaps ! A bit of origami alchemy, perhaps ? Heh, heh...*( yes, they're very helpful..) ;<)
thanks for the video, perhaps one should note that the method is not exact as you claim at 0:51

Thanks, Sara! I'll use method 2 and get perfect 1:3 rectangles! Five-Intersecting Tetrahedra, here I come! :3

why do you fold the paper into rectangles at the end - it's better to keep it unfolded so we can see the pattern
