In addition , the programming, was a learning curve. I've been using the old school, bank and channel method for 15 yrs or more. But once u learn this new uniden method. It makes perfect sence.

I have one of these. Love it. The only thing I would change is a bigger display screen. The first thing I noticed out of the box was the small screen.

Ya i have a serious question....how the heck do you program this thing? it makes no sense, the user guide sucks and google really is no help.

If you guys want to see both the Uniden BC346XT and BC246T side by side scanning frequencies around Modesto, California, visit my channel. They are both great scanners but the BC346XT has more added options that are not on the BC246T. Reason i keep both instead of selling my older BC246T is that i keep one to monitor just the county fire frequencies and the newer BC346XT scans all the rest of the police, ambulance(air and ground) and highway patrol frequencies. Both are amazing receivers!!!

@ksutkowski No. It takes 3 "AA" size batteries. It can take either rechargeable (the scanner comes with a charging cord.) or alkaline batteries. So, no built in batteries.

How does this compare to the 246t? I have one and not sure it's worth an upgrade. Your thoughts?

@geebi88 Hey! First off, I want to say I'm sorry it took me so long for me to get back to you.

I actually had the 246T as my last scanner, and loved it while it worked, but after about two years of dropping it constantly, it finally died. My new(er) scanner now is the 346XT. Aside from the fact that it looks a hell of a lot cooler than the 246T, the 346XT really has some cool features. Definitely worth purchasing! Hello there. I Just bought this model (as a beginner!) and I'm in over my head. The disc ("users manual") does'nt work in my DVD player and written stuff I've found online is confusing. Any ideas or leads for a "scanners 101" type instructions? I lucked out setting some police frequencies (Boston) but I don't understand system creation options (conventional, MOT, etc.) I have one system created with different groups/channels but can't scan them separately. Thanks for your comment! I will be very glad to help you with understanding your new scanner, as I completely understand how intimidating scanners (especially this one) can be for beginners. I am actually somewhere with limited internet connection right now, but as soon as I get a stable WiFi connection, I will get back to you with some info that I think will help.
