Music works great, a little work on the green screening and this would be better than any other part of the movie (they really should have left this in and cut the dune buggy chase)
B4 was a real let down. Don't forget about Lore. Data no doubt kept him around, disassembled after the episode Descent, Part II. Last time they thought they got rid of Lore, the Packleds found him and put him back together. So the only true way for Data to keep tabs on Lore would be to have him as property or parts in cases.
Probably the best deleted scene from the movie. Its not just a nice reference to the TNG TV show, but also a good wrap-up scene for the movie. It summarises all the themes this movie is about and if left in would be a nice setup for the story that follows.
i'm such a sucker for these types of scenes which were the hallmark of the TV series.
had they kept all the deleted scenes in, the film would have been just fine, despite all the mistakes. definitely up to the level of insurrection at least. at least we have youtube to piece together our own release of sorts.
there should have been any deleted scenes in this movie. It was quite well known that this was going to be the last movie. Pretty much stating that trekkers would make up the majority of the audience. I would have sat there for hours. This wasnt a movie for everyone, it was a movie for us.
Yesterday, I got to meet Sir Patrick Stewart, and at the dealer's room, they had bottles of the Chateau Picard bottlesfor sale, so i bought a bottle and had him sign it. Epic!!
who did the matte background for this scene ? picard and data almost collapsed under the weight of the matte lines - havent seen that quality since flash gordon. still it was an interesting scene - problem with NEMESIS there was so much to say and little screen time to say it . maybe they shouldve split into two films with a cliffhanger and the second film would have enterprise and titan teaming up against shinzon and it wouldnt be data dying at the end it' d be the crew of the Titan
@TheJlook2000 I don't think that was in the original deleted scene--it was just a blue screen. It was probably edited in by a fan or something. If it was part of the original scene, it was probably just not finished (as are most deleted scenes involving special effects).
@ascend501 many 80s films had this level of matte work - flash gordon , saturn 3 even superman II if memory serves - it was amusing to see a modern film with heavy matte lines - yeah if the scene had made it to final cut the sfx would be much better
Another scene I'm glad they cut. With a movie, you don't want a lot of long drawn out scenes that slow or stop the pace of the film. Movies are already about 2hrs long, you need quick, to the point, dialogue and a lot of "flare", or "movement".
Just this scene would have given the entire movie of Nemesis so much more depth and insight into the human condition - which is really what makes Star Trek so great - instead of making it just another generic action movie. It really had the potential to be so much more than it was.
@florenmage in the books that follow this movie Geordi devotes his life to study androids and eventually figures out how to recover Data's memories in B4 and Data eventually becomes captain of the Enterprise E after Picard.
Really? Which books does this happen? I'd love to read them! I only remember Data was a Captain in the prequel to the latest Star Trek Movie where Spock goes back in time with a Romulan enemy who blames Spcok for failing to save Romulus, and so he destroys Vulcan.
@florenmage actually according to star trek online (which is based in the main star trek universe, and is set several years after nemesis) Data actually becomes captain of the enterprise-e when picard steps down to become a diplomat/envoy.
The sad thing is, in the end Picard is all alone. Worf is in Deep Space 9, Troi and Riker are off on a different ship, Dr. Crusher is back at Starfleet Medical, and Data is dead. Poor Captain Picard is the only one left.
Data was more human than anyone else in the history of Star Trek. He denied it, other characters didn't realize it. But he had more heart than he wanted to give himself credit for.
Plus Data was far better in this scene than he was allowed to be in the the whole movie and the one before. Picard was more like himself in the show for a change. This scene reminds me why I love Data and Picard so much. Damn why ruin the bonds these characters created over 7 years of TNG? *double facepalm*
Well I'm glad at least Patrick Stewart remembers the continuity of Picard/Crusher (if you ignore Insurrection). The way he pauses between mentioning Will and Deanna leaving and Beverly leaving. His tone seems so defeated and hurt. I guess P/C wasn't totally forgotten in the movies then... oh wait it was deleted from the movie... like 3 other P/C scenes from this film, *facepalm*
Actually I thought it would have made data's desision of ending his own life to safe pickards clearer. Data posses no feelings but tried to figure then out. He went to star fleet not because he wanted to but because he just did. Pickard went to star fleet because it gave his life purpose but regreted not living a simple life. Pecard was about to retire and maybe find a wife even in his old age. Data gave his life of to give Pikard that option.
I'm surprised the cast agreed to do this movie with such a bad story line. Insurrection falls into that category too. A good Romulan story would have made an excellent movie.
@Jmk1701 It was removed at some point before this movie. In another deleted scene, Geordi retrieves it from Data's quarters when he and Worf came in to put his belongings in order. If the Star Trek Countdown comic is canon, then it is eventually installed into Data's brother B-4, which leads Data being "resurrected."
Wrath of Kahn succeed because the director Nicholas Meyers did some research and watched over 70 episodes of the the original series. Stuart Baird is more of an editor than a director.
@spoonmonkey14 And not a very good one, given that he edited out the most interesting scenes. Apparently he did so little research he thought Geordie was an alien.
Given that Data did die at the end... I can't help but wonder why they cut this scene out. Oh well, not that it would have saved the movie or anything.
The director of Nemesis was a total idiot. He had great actors like these two performing very moving scenes and he cut them from what ended up a shite film.
Thank you. Yes, Stuart Baird has never watched Startrek Next Generation nor did a little research. Rick Berman originally wanted Levar Burton to direct Nemesis but Paramount wanted an outsider.
Well both Berman and Stuart are the blame why Nemesis sucked. The Script is bad, and i never like the idea of having the Romulans cloning Picard. Shinzon is crap.
