When I red the novel, THIS Mr Knightley is what popped up in my mind. I saw the Gwyneth Paltrow vesion and was not fully satisfied, then I saw this...
@Ellen9008 yes, i realized that after she began to be a better person. Therefore Jane Austen succeeded in her mission. She is quite good! One of my fav. writers.
@flora634 blake ritson doesn't look the part of mr knightley, nor is he old enough. I don't understand everyone's big hubbub with mr elton ...he is a bit attractive, but he's mainly scrawny and creepy!
"You never praise me unless you can possibly help it." Oops! Shouldn't that be "You never praise me if you can possibly help it"? Oh well. Robert Martin is cute.
lol 1st I read the book and then saw a bit of the movie with Gwyneth... no offence, I just thought hse looked more like Emma, ... but this Emma can actually act this part so srsly ^^ the other movie had no like manipulating and no feeling of this Emma who knows the perfect couple and sets them up... this does!!! I love this version!!
@missunafraid13 Jane Austen said she was writing a book with a heroine whom nobody would like but she herself. Yet quite a few like Emma despite her meddling.
Any man of character would die of shame before behaving so moronically in front of a lady - but then again, I presume the character part, which Mr Elton is massively deficient in!
Every 1 has done such a great job in this film. "Emma" by Jane Austen is a wonderfully written classic that I never tire watching or listening to in audio books. However, this film is the very best for the reason that Romola Garai and Johnny Lee Miller are superb actors. I enjoy watching them in this brilliantly done classic.
I love how Emma says "while you were all in suspense I kept my feelings to myself." Lol, too funny! One of the best lines in the book and the movie that fully illustrates how self-deluded Emma is about her own actions and intentions. This actress is amazing!
*shudder* I really cannot like Mr. Elton... he grows repulsive later on in the book, and he really reminds me of some fellows I'd rather not remember...
LOL, I really can't hate Mr. Elton... his arrogance is so ridiculous it becomes cute. The poor lad tries soo hard to sound impressive, and ends up sounding just plain silly. And the sad thing is that he is very real, I think everyone knows one or two Mr. Eltons.
I thought the scene where the discussion of Robert Martin's proposal was conducted was very well done. Both actresses were expressive and efficient in it.
Mr. Elton is sooooo cheesy--in a hilarious way. I've known a guy or two like him. And even though they're trying way too hard, it's still funny/endearing in a weird way.
The scene where Knightley yells at Emma for persuading Harriet is way better in the Gwyneth Paltrow version. I'm very much liking this adaption though!
I see what you mean about Mr. Knightley's age...I thought he looked too young at first too, then I remembered my young-looking 34-year-old brother. :^) Maybe Mr. Knightley just looks young for his age (36) and Emma looks mature for hers (20) (that was their ages, right? :^))
the only thing I'm not liking is how Mr. Knightley is Edmund to me :( Johnny Lee Miller is a great actor but he looks young to be Mr Knightley, who is supposed to be 14 years older than Emma!
Emma is a b**** to Harriet but if she wasn't, I suppose there wouldn't be a book then...

in the movie Emma, it wasn't obviouse that Mr. Elton was in love with Emma, but here... it is too obviouse. In my humble opiniuon :D

I think it's really funny that it's so obvious here, like Emma acting all-knowing without her realising it.

Agree. It just adds to her cluelessness. Her brother in law tried to tell her. But she was just to hard headed to listen, lol.
