Hi! I'm an interpreter (CT) and will soon be interpreting a presentation that discusses autism. A Deaf friend of mine pointed me to your YouTube video that discussed signs for "autism/autistic" so I wanted to thank you very much for putting this information out there! It's a BIG help!
Have you done other videos like this? Are they organized, such as in an ASL Video Dictionary? I'd love to know about that, please.
@bramweiser Hi! Glad it was helpful ;o) Sorry..I don't have anything more organized than the videos I've posted on youtube. Basically I'm creating a working interpreter journal. I post as things come up with work. And some fun stuff ;o) If you have a specific topic you'd like me to address, I can give it a shot if I've got experience with that subject matter. OK best of luck!! You can check out signingsavvy...on-line ASL dict. Thanks for comment! SH
@Shelllium Thanks for responding, and you're welcome.
I actually came upon a site long ago called the "ASL Browser" from Michigan State University which is another visual ASL dictionary. A key difference between that and Signing Savvy, however, is that Signing Savvy appears to limit how many signs can be accessed while the ASL Browser doesn't.
Many proverbial broken fingers as you continue! :-)
Very interesting. Love to see the variety in signs. This is great for VRS terps to see because you never know what region of the country your caller will be from so the more you see signs from different areas the better chance you'll recognize it if it comes up. :)
My favorite way: "closed the curtains." I will never fingerspell "autism" to label my topic because emotion is faster than thinking. I will sign first and fingerspell second.
Gotcha. I'm thinking of when interpreting... a term like autism/autistic I would tend to FS first bec I didn't have a sign for it, and then see if the client has a sign. Have great day!! SH

because the name of the philosophy opposed to sign is only one letter differant. That's why I'll sign autism, not fingerspell it.

This is funny. I just came back from an Autism awareness workshop for work and was wondering what the sign is for it. Thanks for sharing!
