Never apologise for executing a piece with right-hand fingers...as a right-hander, that is! The stuff you can do with right fingers which are 'alive' is sensational. The other 'advice' I have, is to play pieces with technique and style which suits your interpretation of a piece...don't slavishly try to emulate, take the piece further; even if 'further' is 'backward'. In any event, keep up the good work; doesn't matter whether it's Crimson or Chopin. PT
i'm not one of those "music is not what it used to be" fogies . . . but I think the question is relevant: where are the Robert Fripps of today? There is just nothing like this being composed today. As I've said before, you nailed it.
Superb. Keep practicing! With a performance this good, it just goes to show what extraordinary lengths the original artist(s) went to. Excellent work, and thank you!
I always loved this song but I never realized how hard it was to play till I saw this video.I like this version better than the album version because the true beauty come out better as an instrumental. Thanks
I'm sorry, it was your Likes I was commenting on. Never mind that. I thought they were something you posted on your site I was in error. Rather talk about music from now on.
Anyone gonna be in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 20th, 2008? You gotta go check-out the King Crimson tribute show by The Great Deceivers @ club SPACELAND!!!!!!!!!
It's rough around the edges but what you've done is spot lighted the genius of Fripp as a guitar composer. Very nice. It would be great if you followed up on this with a more polished recital.
Man, I rediscovered that album after many years of not hearing it. I forgot how great it is, and this has become a current favorite... great job, nice to see how it's done. You can really see Fripp's genius. Thanks for posting!
I wish I could play it... very likely one of the most impressive guitar works ever, that's for sure. How did you learn it? Is there any sort of tab or partita?
Gah, I know! He's incredible! However, I just started playing with a pick this last summer, and I'm getting pretty good...maybe one day I'll be quick like him, but I'm sure I'll never be the same as Fripp.
It reminds me of a funny story I heard once about a classical guitar student who was learning to play a famous piece at his conservatory. Fripp heard him struggling and said "hmm, why don't you try with a plectrum"? The student said "that's impossible! this song requires four fingers". Fripp then took the guitar and played it perfectly with his pick.
Haha thanks! I'm really fond of it. It was a $30 strap, but they gave it to me free when I bought my guitar. I can't find any tags or anything on it to indicate where it came from, so your best bet's probably to just browse the straps at guitar center or something. Sorry I can't be more help
Holy crap I can't even touch this song man, You do a great job... It's one of KC's prettiest songs. and for the record Robert Fripp needs to be raised on the best guitarist list to somewhere in the top 5.
Mot bad at all kiddo, I'm the biggest Crimson fan there is and a musician. I loved that you payed attention to detail but watch your tempo, Most guitarist (other than Fripp of course) tend to have a problem with tempo. What I would recommend is practice witha Metronome just like Fripp. If you don't know what I'm talking about pick up his show in Asi DVD, you'll get a whole new education.
Thanks, buddy. I'll have to pick up that DVD, seeing how I'm also a huge King Crimson/Fripp fan myself, and because I've always had a problem with tempo, which I have gotten better at over the years, but am by no means perfect. Thanks again!
Do you happen to know why he doesn't hold much respect towards his fans by the way? I can understand he finds noisy audiences and such annoying, but surely it isn't always like that.
Not in which LP of this epoch there is a brutal topic qu this initiates with under and a box similar to this topic. The guitar is drawing short phrases, with chords or octavando, then it is complicated, with a guitar now tremendous, hard, cut, rabid, fantastic, and finally enters softly the moog and strings, not well ... i like remind her name

Without wishing to take anything away from RF, if he chose to play it with a plectrum that's his business. This sounds great fingerstyle.

Plectrum is another term for a picking device.

I know, it's just shocking.
I don't think he did, though, because a lot of notes are struck at the same time. Maybe he used a pick AND his fingers?
