  • I love this music. And the background as well. It is very Persian.

  • @LordParsi you cant say THEY ARE PERSIAN

they are uygurs and thats all.

you can say in central asia are the people persish mixed...but they are not persian

the ottomans extended to north africa where arabs living BUT I CANT SAY they are all turks ?!

uyghurs are fromn the oghus tribe like turkmens and turkey

  • @Cartelle8 Which are in Ancient Persia.

  • The Uyghurs are of Persian descent. I love the music by the way.

  • @LordParsi No they are not???

You cant both really love this music and make a stupid comment like this. Just google "uyghur" and see if there is any mention of persian descent...please dont try to spoil beautiful videos by racist comments.

  • @hideare Yes they are. The Persian Empire extended all the way to where the Uyghurs (Persians) live currently. they are Persians. So please, don't spoil this beautiful Persian Music by racist, inappropriate comments. Besides, dutar is Persian for du- two and tar-strings. Two strings!!!

  • @LordParsi

We Uyghurs is a Turkic tribe. Turks and Persians have been living as neighbors since the ancient times therefore have influenced each other. The famous Turkic linguist and scholar Mehmud Kashgari who liven in Kashgar in the 11th century mentioned in his famous book "Khutatku Bilig" that Persian and Turkic cultures and languages were influencing each other and competing for dominance in Central during his time a thousand years ago. We consider ourselves Turk, that is what counts.

  • @Sulik94 Ok, then. Think that way, but you are still Persian. You cannot drag yourself from your ancestral roots.

  • @LordParsi parisians is descent of Turkicks, cause Turkicks f****ed ur grandmother many times, u can learn it in ur history.

  • @uighurbiz First of all, yoiu are very rude. Second of all you are wrong. I am not Turkic, neither are you. We are all Persian

  • Long Live Turkic Nations, Long Live Uighurs!...

Long Live Eternal Steppes And Altai...

  • Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful,

    BRAVO Uzbek people,

    BRAVO Uzbek Music,

Thank you so very much michaeldmanning for uploading this magnificent piece.

  • SUPER!!! Thank You for this beautiful composition!

  • great music!

  • subhanallah

  • The Call of Dutar

  • the power of the riff compels us

  • wow this sounds nice but Bengali dutara sounds better not that this is not good it is awesome

  • I really enjoyed this performance. I play guitar and when my acoustic lost 4 strings, because I couldn't restring it at the time, I just played on the two remaining. It was very fun, and somehow lends itself well to Spanish or Middle-Eastern style playing. I think I'd have a lot of fun playing a dutar.

Would the dutar have greater amplification with a sound-hole in the centre, like a lute or guitar? If so, why is this not done? :/

  • @TwoTube2 The dutar has a sound hole at the bottom of the body. Near the player's right knee.

  • very nice melody... thanx fur uploading....

  • Bravo!

  • Guys... just because something has a Persian name does not make it Persian...

Say it's like the Jew's harp, a pure Turkic-Mongolian instrument but it has NOTHING to do with judaism or jews at all!!

Dutar is a Turkic instrument. That's it.

  • tardu akhun? where can I find his recordings?

  • The whole video i stared at the screen to see the hat as his hairstyle...xD

    btw nice playing!

  • I once took all but two strings off a guitar and proceeded to play like this. Oh and I thought I was being so original..

  • i play guitar, so i find this pretty cool

  • OMFG that noob!! Attach four more strings and play it in expert mode! :C

  • This is sweet! That guy has to have some huge effin' blisters!!!!

  • Masterful playing. Beautiful tone.

  • Originally a mogolian instrument

People originating from mogolians still use it, turks, turkmenians, kozaks, some chinese and northern afghans.

  • @unstable112 Mmmm i would say that persians used first... Dotar means in farsi: 2 strings. Hehehe i know, turks always say everything is them.

  • @unstable112

    "Originally"?

Just look at the string instruments the mongols are using now.

They look exactly like chinese instruments. The modern day mongols were influenced by the Yuan dynasty heavily and have adopted much from them, architecture, dress, music and etc.

  • Awesome.

So much range and expression from only two strings.

    Beautiful scenery,excellent playing, nice video.

  • Is this a saz?

  • @Daski69 No it's a dutar.

  • Yaşa! Bu tellerden çıkan nağmelerde Türk'ün kudreti var!...

  • try with ebay

  • beutiful music & view

  • wow very nice

    turks 4 ever

  • When I was growing up in Kashgar every family had a dutar. Our family had one too, passed down three generations. My mother was absolutely hearbroken when I broke it trying to take down from a hook on the wall when I was 8 or 9. We never replaced it (could not afford at that time) and I never got a chance to learn it.

I grew up listening to the music of this artist. He is absolutely the best of the best. He was hugely popular among Uyghurs, peasants and others alike, in Kashgar.

  • ive been searching for a dutar for a long time. i recently picked up a saz, (easy to find) i have some videos of me playing it. i have recently fallen in love with the dutar and would LOVE to have one, do you happen to have any idea on how i could get one?

  • I do not know any place outside of China sells dutar. I know people brought dutar to US when they visited home. I am not sure if it is safe to ship from East Turkistan, probably not. I wish I could help you on this. sorry.

  • kazakhstan is about the only other place you may find one, if not i highly recommend getting a saz or a dombra (also called dumbira) they have a similar design and an equally beautiful sound

  • ISTE KASGARIN NESEDI

  • I don't think you really get the point, if you have the heart to understand the music, you can find beauty even in the music that played only with a single string. you sonds more silly to me actually. i am touched, it's a nice music.

  • i am objecting "CelticMonkey88" 's post by the way.

  • i cant describe how i feel when i am listening to uyghur or other turkic music...its like a mix of proudness and happiness and...ahh i dont know...

  • Flawless.

  • Victory

  • Agreed. Very beautiful.

  • this is turkish music my friends this is our culture, we have more culture than any other nation on this earth , it is beautiful to see my relatives

  • No such thing as "more culture," arkadaş.

  • And this music is actually very Arab and Persian inspired. Purer Turkic music is to be found in Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

  • How so? and how do u define purer forms of Turkic music from lesser forms? Both the instrument and melody are Turkic origin. The fact it may appear different from styles in Mongolia and Qazaqistan is more to do with the evolving nature of music than foreign influence. Lesser or purer doesnt matter.

  • This music obviously shows influence from Persian and Arabic music. On the other hand, Turkic cultures which have not had much contact with Arabic or Islamic musical culture show similarities among themselves, and from this it can be deduced that these cultures have a style of music that has not been influenced by Persian/Arabic music. Hence, that they likely demonstrate a musical tradition that has not had much foreign influence on it in quite a while.

  • Rolf, i dont mean to nitpick or anything, but can u tell me where the arabic and where the persian influence is? Both those cultures have been influenced by Turks as much as they have influenced turkic culture. The difference in style to Qazaq or Mongolian music is because of the evolution of music among a people in such a wide area of land. Listen to different styles of Qazaq music, Siberian music and so on. They all have differences but they all share the same roots. Uyghurs dont differ.

  • They differ widely. Kazakh and Mongol music uses a lot of pentatonic scales, while Uyghur music is heavily rooted in the Phrygian mode.

The Kazakhs had very little contact with the Arab/Persian world, and their music shows this. The Uyghurs had much contact with the Arab/Persian world, and their music shows this.

    I stick by my analysis.

The Uyghurs have had much more contact with

  • i dont think u got wat i meant since u never asnwered my question. doesnt matter.

Anyway pentatonic scales are found thruout the world. As for Phrygian mode, u mean Kurdish mode? Persian or Arab.

    watch?v=UDY0nhyKOi4

    watch?v=1bcLlvP7ZFk

    watch?v=e3n0TlTmt-o

re wat i previously wrote. im not sayin there is no outside influence just that it goes both ways and u cant overemphasize one (or 2 lol) foreign influence more than it deserves.

  • Ill add on that Phrygian mode takes its name from the location in anatolia, which was under byzantine/turk rule and that Uyghur music has more in common with Kurds than Persians.

The Phrygian mode wasn't exactly unknown to most cultures, it just was passed over in some places, like the Dorian mode only to a lesser degree.

Ill also add that Uyghur music has something in common with Kurdish music but almost nothing in common with Arabic OR Persian music and very little in common with Turkic music.

  • Anyhow as for turkic people east of the near east... Kazakhs were so all over the damn place that you cannot say they didn't pick up influences from Cossacks, Chinese, Uyghur, or Mongols. Not only that but the Kazakhs were under Mongol dominion for a while and subject to the Mongol efforts toward integration.

Any other Turkic peoples you want to point out? The Uyghur didn't interact and more or less than any other turks save for the seven cities era and the Mongols aren't exclusively Turkic.

  • Influenced turks by what way? I dont see anything new in turkey other than the language they speak. The turkics only influenced their blood.

The instrument is of iranian origin (Dutar, literally meaning 2 strings in persian), and the scales sound anatolian-iranian.

  • Just going to comment here too since the focus is different.

Phrygian mode is NAMED after a place that falls well within the bounds of Byzantine and Ottoman holdings.

One might also point out that your analysis denies the possibility of parallel evolution in musical theory.

Infact isn't this the wrong place to present such arguments at all seeing as A.H. has such a distinctly different style from even the average Uyghur dutar player.

I digress, the Seven Cities were a trading hubs so...

  • Also good to note that the kazaks held trade hubs on the silk road and would have had plenty of contact in such areas, beyond that they were even part of the uyghur holdings in antiquity... also good to note that the uyghur "equivalents" of even western Turkic instruments aren't equivalent at all.

  • First of all, Kazakh and Mongolian tunes are also very similar to this.

Second, if you are introduced to these tunes through Arabs and Persians, it does not mean Turks took it from them.

Thrid, any type of cultural interaction happens in two-way manner rather than one-way.

Four, it is wrong to assume Mongolians and Kazakhs have come here somehow purely. Their tunes might have been influenced by Tibetian and other cultures.

    Cheers.

  • @tarakkiyot this is oriental sound. This is the sound from Black Sea to Mongolia. This is a disticnt asian sound. Hope youre not arguing it`s origins. Because they common!

  • @tarakkiyot Other cultures like Persian

  • @LordParsi

I don't know what you are talking about. i love iranian people too, they were part of our empires for a long time under Anushtegins, Seljuks, Gaznevis, Ilkhanis, Temuris, Safavis. very very dear for us, indeed.

  • you're wrong. uyghurs are "turkic". other "turkic" languages are azeri, uzbek, kazhaks and others. turkish language is also a "turkic" language spoken in turkey. thats why uyghur understand turkish. just enjoy the dutar and stop making forums here.
