It's wonderful to see a revival of truly traditional styles of singing and music. This has so much more character than the 'high culture' interpretations of western-style orchestras/orchestration and operatic singers.
All arts have value unto themselves but the folk tradition always sends shivers down my spine! This is the people's culture and has evolved over millennia.
Soviet Union Russification is no longer relevant in a country like Ukraine - Ukraine cannot be called Ukraine without the Ukrainian language and culture which is older and very distinct from Russian - their over abundance of language similarities is due to their common origin from ancient Kyivan Rus where ancient Slavonoc and Ukraine were known to be spoken- Russian became the spoken language of the lands NE of Kyivan Rus
Very nice dance! I've been looking for this type of dance for a while now! I love the way they do kicks, but while squatting down (not featured in this video). What are the personality and cultural differences between a Russian and a Ukrainian? One Russian girl I know says that they're the same country, and I think that she was quite chauvinistic. She believes that Kiev belongs to Russia.
