My first grandson died just over a year ago. He had just become 3 years of age. Undiagnosed terminal kidney cancer which spread to his heart. Just like all these beautiful children he sleeps and one day he will rise again! I made videos and photos of him at my daugthers request. Vivir es soñar, morir es despertar. Als je gelooft ...hoef je nooit bang te zijn.
This video was kind of sad, but not creepy. As recently as 40 to 50 years ago post mortem pics were common. My Granny who just passed away a few years ago showed me pics of her parents and some of her brothers taken after they were laid out. Its not a big deal
It's just death. No reason to be so scared or get all freaked out about it. We're all gonna die someday. This was done in the Victorian Era, as described, as a way to remember their loved ones who'd passed.
The Lord Jesus is our Saviour, the Saviour of our souls. There is no other Saviour. You only have this lifetime to make the decision. Please make it - turn to Him today, ask Him into your life to be your Saviour. Jesus died to give us eternal life - 'For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' Romans 6:23
@all of those that are rude and/ or just plain ignorant... is this has been stated already, this is a very common thing for both old and young departed.. this video has been made with great taste and great respect 4 both those in the video and for those viewing video. Even though I know none of those pictured I personally feel a sense of loss.
After death photographs were common in victorian times and most often this was the only photograph/memory of the loved one. Photography was then a complex and expensive process that few could afford.
Mum's first child was a boy, he died 2 hrs old she never got to see him. A lifelong regret.
A photograph even after death would have been a comfort to her.
Taken in context I don't think this in the least creepy, death is often closer than we might choose!
Don't ever put something like this on the Internet again. I have 3 young little children and I would never do something like this to my beautiful lovers.
Its always good to be remembered I think its great to celebrate the dead because a lot of people are forgotten we all have to go someday even if you have no one to visit at a grave its always good to stop by and say a prayer the dead need love too
I will never take pictures of my baby boy sleeping ever again. I'm afraid that 100 years from now someone will post it on the internet and say it was postmortem.
wow, I think this video was beautiful. Most of the children just looked like they were sleeping or just tired. It's a comfort to know they aren't suffering anymore and they are resting in the arms of the Lord now. This was tastefully done and the music fit just perfectly!! Well done!!
I dint want to die:( you get locked up in a case then buried as deep as possible in ground. Them you move on. And Jesus looked after you. I am really scared of being with a stranger but I'm gonna be frightened :( I'm only 12
@chronicreader This is not the type of videos that you upload to youtube men or if you do make it private and share only with people that you know not cool I also lost a child and I don't like at all this kind of sick videos !
People play with everything now a days and they should not it hurts some other people !
And I'ts not about caption or not this is just a sick video !!!
@0003rc Do you have a picture of your child? If they were old enough off course. Or do/did you keep an ultrasound picture? What's the difference between taking pictures of these people (children) to save and keep their memories? What's the difference between keeping your loved one's pictures long after they themselves are gone? And what's so awful about something like this? Perhaps there are none left over to care or miss these children who never even got a chance at life
which in and of itself was a blessing of God to at least HAVE a life at all) So now there's some one (a lot of someone's now) that have seen these children, know of them and are able to keep them in memory. What's so terrible about that?
@Lizzyerdify I see you don't know nothing about that kind of pain so why don't you keep your comments to yourself !
I don't like the video is that a crime !? No it's no it's my right to like it or not so deal with it.
But sure should be a crime to post videos like this on the internet for all to see and play with people's feelings, that's why when you do a load a video on youtube you have the option to make it a private video !!!!!!!!!!
@0003rc not to take away ur feelings because they are valued. but photos like these and maybe even some others are documented on channels like natgeo, discovery and histoy when they do specials on the time periods that these type of photos were popular. so my point is i dont think u should demonize the person posting them for this is not the first display of this practice. at the end of the day its history.
@blackice112 Ok enough of this shit I did not like the video period. And NO you don't see this kind of videos on discovery not from this nature ok get your shit together don't try to tell me what pain is becouse I have experienced all kinds of pain the kind of pain that I do not wish to my worst enemy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will not answer any more comments on this video it makes me sick just to see how many twisted minds exist in this world !!!!!!
I'm not scared of dying but there is nothing sadder when a child dies. The photos are very interesting for historical purposes also.Love the furniture and the clothes for the children.
I came upon this video by chance, I don't like it But like alot of people , my fear of what the grave has in store or what it may Not have in store holds a Mystery to me that I can't deny.
Isnt this kind of a moot tribute? Even if these children lived to adult hood they would be dead from old age by now. I think you just want to show of your collection of post mortem pics you have acquired. Are you even related to any of these people? You act like you are all sensitive and really care but you know you are just putting on a freak show.
@usucmehardutube Granted, these children would now be dead, but the fact is that they did not live the number of years we now expect to live, and this is sad. Honoring their short lives and knowing the tragedy of their loss to family members is an honorable thing (and I have nothing to do with this video, btw). It can be a good thing to remind ourselves of the times in which our own great-grandparents lived, when simply having a baby was a dangerous thing.
I'm 42. I've had some great times, & suffered many hardships. I haven't much money bringing up 5 young children. I feeel the Sun by day and peruse the stars at night. The happiness of my children keeps my heart true. This video reminds me what it is in richness to live.....
The amazing thing is, is that little did the families know that hundreds of years later, their beloved children would still be viewed and remembered via internet.
You would not want to keep the corpses exposed for too long, the stench of death can be next to impossible to get out of the perforations within the home, even the aroma of fresh baked bread could not mask it. Unless you have a large freezer, you could keep them in there and roll them out during festivities. There would be more food to go around since they do not have to be fed, if the male of the home is feeling amorous, wait for her to thaw out and ravage her sexually with merciless intent.
I was sick often when I was a child. I remember being able to leave my body behind a float around the room, playing. Now that I'm an adult, death is scary, but I remember when it wasn't.
A lot of people who are turned off by this video need to remember that photography in victorian times was very expensive, and often parents didnt have the resources to photograph family members until their death, which was their last chance to have a remembrance. Even though it's hard to watch, these children were loved and they were treated with dignity.
@drewqq Agreed! In addition, it was not uncommon for family members to encourage a loved one who had active tuberculosis or other infection to have their picture taken-- like NOW-- so that there are daguerreotypes and ambrotypes of people not looking at all well, because they weren't. I have a great deal of trouble looking at the picture of Henry D. Thoreau-- the one with the full beard-- because he was very sick and died within a few months, at age 44.
Very upsetting video but at the same time so real, they do look like they're just sleeping, we need to be thankful for every breath we take instead of worrying about stupid thinks like fashion! Family is everything, enjoy your loved ones while you can, beautiful video
@janesia7297 indeed why do we watch this? good question. We watch because we need to know about death. It is not something to fear or hide from. The Buddhists sometimes meditate on the stages of death and decay. All things are impermanent. It is knowing this that helps us to appreciate each moment of life, and to seek to live fully in the moment.
@MrSnappie There are many who do not believe there is a god. Regardless, the universe is a place of awe. Only in clinging to an omnipotent god that these deaths seem unfair. With no god, there is no one to blame. Death becomes acceptable as just another part of life. That does not mean that there is not something larger than us. it just means that there is not some mysterious other who is picking and choosing who should live, and who should die, and who should suffer, and who should not suffer.
In that era something like the cold or pneumonia killed children and adults on a regular basis, yet we now place more emphasis on material things? How sad is that....When we value innanimate objects over human life?! We need to move forward with the betterment of man on a life scale.
@peewee19652010 It still kills people on a regular basis. In 1999 they came out with a vaccine for pneumonia. Most school age children are required to have it. It was updated in 2010 I believe to vaccine against more strains. My 5yp grandson just died of pneumonia Nov 2011 and he was fully inoculated. As was his 3yo brother. when they got suck, the older one died within a few days. the younger presented with an ear infection. Goole it...ho many people still die of it EVERY year.
@lordslittlegirl Condolences to your family on the loss of your grandson. So sad to die of a supposedly preventable illness. We at times forget there are real people ill all over, and only notice when it hits home.
I was just reading about this and they said in those days people did not have money and often the only pictures they could afford to take were post-mortem. These children look so beautiful and if you did not say they were dead I would not have known. Today when people die they look so waxy & fake. I don't know if this was be4 all the chemicals used to preserve the look, but I prefer the way these children look, it's more natural.
My great great uncle (I think) was a photographer, and some of his collection is on my community's museum site. There was a family who lived not far from where I am who lost their daughter young. hey never got any photos of her until he took a photo of her after she passed. She looks so peaceful and beautiful. I also lost a cousin (before I was born), They all look gorgeous, even though they've gone.
Soooo sad! I feel horrible watching this! Yet I can't look away... Simply because these are memories! Remembering them forever by having these photos, keeps them from fading away...they beautifull angels.
@PetersTigerLily I know, it hard... My son was a "surprise" baby. My only child was in high school! I suffered SEVERE post partum depression. I know it sounds weird, but by starting my own private collection and appreciation for them, it got me thru dark times. I made myself realise my son was here and perfect and healthy. It made me get loving his life and wanting to be part of it!!!
Prior to antibiotics, people lived much more closely with death and commonly lost babies and young children. A young couple could not assume their beautiful little baby would live to experience the birth of her own child. Today, young couples in the US are upset if they don't have two sinks in every bathroom of their five-bedroom, six bath starter-home. The modern sense of entitlement is what is creepy, not this video.
@kkloskklos Very true. If you *really* want to appreciate this, take a trip to deep inside Mexico, or the Philippines. Many people in the Philippines are thrilled to have clean water to drink, or a couple of meals to fill up on is a blessing. Then I get back to California and see all the excess and wealth. Makes me sick.
I would have to agree with both the comment above and below. Death is just as much a part of life as is birth. And without Death, there would be no Life!
@kkloskklos There's nothing wrong with wanting two sinks in every bathroom. It's not entitlement. Entitlement is wanting someone else (taxpayer) to pay for it. Yes, we've got it a lot better today...thank God.
@taggartjs The sort of "entitlement" to which I refer goes beyond the belief that many younger persons have today that one should "have it all" without having to "jump through any hoops". Their grandparents bought things by "saving up"... reused things and "made do" and had "a starter house" with (God forbid) only one bathroom. I don't even mean that... what I mean has more to do with the fact that too many people today appear oblivious to suffering past and present. It's a sickening selfishness
@taggartjs (part two) and I do believe there IS much wrong with someone who "needs" two sinks in their bathroom. Sorry. To each his own, I suppose, but that particular mindset exists in a person I would not want to know. If the second sink came with a house and one had no choice, so be it. But to consider it a "need"...? "I believe that the mind can be permanently profaned by the habit of attending to trivial things." Henry David Thoreau
@kkloskklos actually the number of wealthy "entitled" Americans is shrinking. Their numbers shrink but their wealth grows! Most of us are barely making it. Look at the numbers, they don't lie.
@oreom102988 I'm not referring to the wealthy when I use the term "entitlement". If you watch the Home&Garden channel and any of the shows where a couple is looking for a house, you will see folks who have glorified notions of what they "deserve". I feel sorry for them, and it would take more space than I have here to explain why. My house is 480 square feet and I wouldn't trade it for anything else."A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone."
Back in Victorian times families took photos of loved ones who passed and placed them with other family photos. To me while it is sad to see a child die before having lived I think this was a great way to celebrate their part in the family. Though we rather not think of it death is just as sacred as birth.
These are not graphic, they are beautiful! Rest in peace little angels. My baby sister passed at 2 months old and we keep all her pictures even the ones at her funeral :'( she looked so peaceful, like a sleeping doll
A very touching tribute to the children who passed and the families who loved them and wanted them forever in their hearts. May we be reunited in Heaven with our beloved ancestors and family when our time comes.
Wow what a bad time for me to also start a video of great white sharks. Seeing these images with Jaws theme on electric gutair made these very creepy. But these images themselves can be a bit surreal at times as well.
If my daughter moved 3000 miles away and got married in 1890, I'd want a photo of my son-in-law. No telephone lines overseas then, just mail. The birth of a child is a wonderful thing. Would I like to see that babies face, just once and share the sorrow within my family? Of course. We all would. This was a part of long distance grieving in the 19th century, long before funeral parlors... in the days when you gave birth at home. These photos are all about love, loss and sharing agony.
@PMacdougall11 i agree with you very much a child is a blesing to all the family not just the parents im just a uncle but the the kids we have in our little family are loved if one had to leave us as these little ones did i realy dont know whot i would do i dont ever wont to lose them there my reason for going on with the day
Interesting - and some of the photos are so beautiful. It is hard to say what made them want a photo of their children in that state - but because some of them are so beautiful - maybe they did not have many photos of their children when they were alive and they wanted one last keepsake
i find it interesting how one moment i can be laughing hysterically at some you tube video and the next be crying my eyes out to another. thank you for that

A lot of people who are turned off by this video need to remember that photography in victorian times was very expensive, and often parents didnt have the resources to photograph family members until their death, which was their last chance to have a remembrance. Even though it's hard to watch, these children were loved and they were treated with dignity.
drewqq 1 week ago 21

Family is everything, enjoy your loved ones while you can, beautiful video

why did I watch this :'(
janesia7297 1 week ago
@janesia7297 indeed why do we watch this? good question. We watch because we need to know about death. It is not something to fear or hide from. The Buddhists sometimes meditate on the stages of death and decay. All things are impermanent. It is knowing this that helps us to appreciate each moment of life, and to seek to live fully in the moment.

Some times you find it hard to believe there is a god,
MrSnappie 1 week ago

We need to move forward with the betterment of man on a life scale.
peewee19652010 1 week ago
@peewee19652010 It still kills people on a regular basis. In 1999 they came out with a vaccine for pneumonia. Most school age children are required to have it. It was updated in 2010 I believe to vaccine against more strains. My 5yp grandson just died of pneumonia Nov 2011 and he was fully inoculated. As was his 3yo brother. when they got suck, the older one died within a few days. the younger presented with an ear infection. Goole it...ho many people still die of it EVERY year.
lordslittlegirl 4 days ago
@lordslittlegirl Condolences to your family on the loss of your grandson. So sad to die of a supposedly preventable illness. We at times forget there are real people ill all over, and only notice when it hits home.
emordzable 4 days ago

There was also the trend of not having a baby shower until after the birth, because pre birth death was so common.

I have young children. No father of young daughters could watch this for more than 3 seconds.
RYANPOLETIS 1 week ago
Prior to antibiotics, people lived much more closely with death and commonly lost babies and young children. A young couple could not assume their beautiful little baby would live to experience the birth of her own child. Today, young couples in the US are upset if they don't have two sinks in every bathroom of their five-bedroom, six bath starter-home. The modern sense of entitlement is what is creepy, not this video.
kkloskklos 1 week ago 71
@kkloskklos Very true. If you *really* want to appreciate this, take a trip to deep inside Mexico, or the Philippines. Many people in the Philippines are thrilled to have clean water to drink, or a couple of meals to fill up on is a blessing. Then I get back to California and see all the excess and wealth. Makes me sick.
eric5906 1 week ago
I would have to agree with both the comment above and below. Death is just as much a part of life as is birth. And without Death, there would be no Life!
karebearcolin 1 week ago 2
@kkloskklos There's nothing wrong with wanting two sinks in every bathroom. It's not entitlement. Entitlement is wanting someone else (taxpayer) to pay for it. Yes, we've got it a lot better today...thank God.
taggartjs 1 week ago
@taggartjs The sort of "entitlement" to which I refer goes beyond the belief that many younger persons have today that one should "have it all" without having to "jump through any hoops". Their grandparents bought things by "saving up"... reused things and "made do" and had "a starter house" with (God forbid) only one bathroom. I don't even mean that... what I mean has more to do with the fact that too many people today appear oblivious to suffering past and present. It's a sickening selfishness
kkloskklos 1 week ago
@taggartjs (part two) and I do believe there IS much wrong with someone who "needs" two sinks in their bathroom. Sorry. To each his own, I suppose, but that particular mindset exists in a person I would not want to know. If the second sink came with a house and one had no choice, so be it. But to consider it a "need"...? "I believe that the mind can be permanently profaned by the habit of attending to trivial things." Henry David Thoreau
kkloskklos 1 week ago
@kkloskklos actually the number of wealthy "entitled" Americans is shrinking. Their numbers shrink but their wealth grows! Most of us are barely making it. Look at the numbers, they don't lie.
oreom102988 4 days ago
@oreom102988 I'm not referring to the wealthy when I use the term "entitlement". If you watch the Home&Garden channel and any of the shows where a couple is looking for a house, you will see folks who have glorified notions of what they "deserve". I feel sorry for them, and it would take more space than I have here to explain why. My house is 480 square feet and I wouldn't trade it for anything else."A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone."
kkloskklos 4 days ago
Back in Victorian times families took photos of loved ones who passed and placed them with other family photos. To me while it is sad to see a child die before having lived I think this was a great way to celebrate their part in the family. Though we rather not think of it death is just as sacred as birth.

Interesting - and some of the photos are so beautiful. It is hard to say what made them want a photo of their children in that state - but because some of them are so beautiful - maybe they did not have many photos of their children when they were alive and they wanted one last keepsake
