George Carlin - Lenny Bruce

Carlin got his first agent after Bruce heard C do an impression of him (B) in a club. Bruce was a big fan of Carlin. If you read the Bruce book by Collins and Skover, on page 147 (hardback copy) they explain this.

Carlin's voice changed a lot as he got older, but I always assumed he was embellishing it as part of a stage persona. His old stage voice is closer to his real voice. The voice he used later on was more of a crotchety old bastard type character. The world still misses this legend.

I read that in the early 60's Carlin was busted trying to get into a club in Chicago where Bruce was playing. It just so happens that Lenny was arrested for obscenity that night and he and Carlin shared a ride in the police cruiser to the station!

@Poonard I know it's been a long time since this comment. Yeah, Carlin's natural voice is very distinctive. This Carlin doing a Lenny Bruce bit. Kind of a tribute. Carlin was/is a CLEAR Lenny Bruce advocate and his comedic style was absolutely "Lenny Bruce-ish" Lots of politics, religion, and sociological inconsistencies and perceived realities depending on "who" and "what" you "were", was his act. Much like Bruce, Carlin's intent was to "educate" the public on what reality "really was." Great

where is this from??? George Carlin was there when Lenny Bruce got arrested in the early 60's (it is on tape and avaliable) George was there that night and got arrested also-not on the recording!!! GATE OF HORN!!!

indeed, George actually got arrested after they asked him for ID and his reply was "i don't believe in ID" so they arrested him and he was put in the the same vehicle as Lenny.
