I'd like to see the manual transmission tested 0-60mph. My base model Impreza also has a very slow rating, but a well-timed launch and 5spd transmission literally drops whole seconds from that time...I'd expect ~9 seconds from this car with the Manual, given the similar HP and weight and AWD as the older Subaru Impreza.
II agree with the manual thingy. I've driven a honda CR-V auto (a 2001), and we own a 2001 5 speed. The autobox made the car extremely slow and it felt extremely under powered while our 5 speed really isnt too bad for everyday driving.
Its cheap, its fun, its reliable, the plastic is good quality (not like GM junk) and with 5 spd manual the only thing it needs is a small turbo. Its great in the snow, never had a scary moment when the going is slippery and its a doddle to drive in the city.

What a dreadful car. Unfortunately, I have one as a rental for a few days right now.....talk about reeking of a cheap ass UGLY car that can't get enough speed to get out of it's own way. Brakes went out in two days....revy, but not in a good way. Tons of plastic inside....cheap cheap cheap. yuck
..no it isn't... Heck, the mid-90's GM midsize cars all had 'em. Granted, they didn't have as thick of pillars as this, but thicker pillars means if it rolls over, better stronger structure. RESEARCH before making oversweeping general comments please.
I have a feeling this car isn't really competing in the sub-compact arena, at least not directly. I think its more in tunned with the Civic, Sentra pack. Its hard to really define this car like the previous Aerio was. I wish they brought over the new Swift. That is a bad ass car! I would love me one of those!
Very objective review. Unlike Consumer Reports which is corrupted by bribes from the big car companies, Edmunds is small enough still to still give honest review that aren't so biased.
I like Edmunds. They rate cars that are overlooked a lot (i.e. Suzuki and Mazda) fairly in comparison to their competitors, and allow one to realize that buying "another one of the pack" isn't necessarily a good thing.... For instance, Mazda3 vs. the previous generation Corolla: 3 is better priced, better quality, and was so much more engaging to drive. Not the average commuting car. Just one example of many.
11.3 seconds to 60?! Did you leave the handbrake on???

the aerio is a better car than the sx4, (before you criticize do research), the aerio had more power and standard features and are really good cars.

The 2009 version will have a standard navigation system for under 16K.

i love this car! it has great power for its engine and weight... but I do wish they could sell the swift here in the US.

4x4 feature of this mini SUV is excellent; especially on snowy days...

For the price and its being more powerful than the Matrix AWD which has only 132 horses, this SX4 is a better choice.

I have no probs passing people in this car.
I also have no probs with "blind spots" either. I love the design personally. The little windows up front really work for us.
I think this car kicks ass and I'm glad I bought it. Very rally inspired, just like I wanted. GO SUZUKI POWER WRC 08!!!
ratcatdogbutt 4 years ago 6
I am sure you have a manual version of it? The manual version has good power the auto version is bit lethergic.
justawordaway 4 years ago 6
I am surprised
Nothing about the double windshield pillars and the drivers visibility and the "frond end blind spots"
This is the first car on the American market with this kind of pillars.
