@DoobNooby and @vmipiper, Bill Clinton "wouldn't let you go" because your state-sponsored PUBLIC university banned women until 1997. In 1993, when Pres Clinton was inaugurated, the Department of Justice was in the midst of suing VMI over its refusal to abide by the United States constitution.
I don't agree with Pres Clinton on much-- but bravo for refusing to reward bigotry and utter disregard for the constitution! And props to Pres Obama for inviting VMI back after the situation was resolved.
What some of you fail to realize is our marches in the United States are shown for honor... Unlike North Korea and China who use it to demonstrate military power. So far they haven't impressed me... except in econ
@ufee Well, let's see. How about the entire United States marches its entire military force down Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to the Capitol, complete with airplanes, missiles, bombs, tanks, soldiers, huge drumlines, the whole nine yards (like NK,) and we'll see who has a "way better march." We'd put your sorry asses to shame.
Were you there? Have you marched in the Inaugural before as a part of a military unit, directly behind a college band playing entirely different cadence?
@bnctaj That doesn't matter. A march should be treated as a show, and these guys fail at entertaining me. Unlike, say, China or North Korea. This march is unimpressive, clunky and boring. The fact that this is so boring reveals their contempt for the audience and the fine art of marching.
I mean, come on. This is the only non-killing activity the military does well, and they fudge it all up.
Chinese and North Korean marchers don't have to deal with the aforementioned issue. Furthermore, your assertion that the "only non-killing activity the military" does well is marching reveals your ignorance and contempt for the military and ignorance towards the Virginia Military Institute, which is a college.
@bnctaj I know the military has played the biggest role in developing technology and infrastructure, which trickles down to society at some point, an unintentional side-effect. Still, the end result is always enhancing their ability to kill people and maintain dominance.
Marching, on the other hand, is just silly. There's a very clear distinction between marching and everything else the military does.
It appears you need to crack open a history book. I pity you. I really do. You have nothing else to do but bring in your hateful trash and post it to people you will never have to face in person. I am from California, I have no particular bias with the Civil War but I recognize ignorance and pathogenesis when I see it. Go to some other video to rant, this is not the platform for your misguided and uneducated hate.
It's something else though when you feel that your experience as a RAT means nothing now because people that weigh 400 pounds and cannot do any physical exercise still make it through the system.
Are you criticizing people based on your experiences and interactions with them or by what you have seen or heard from popular media? Have you ever lived in a rural environment?
@vmipiper I love how in other countries, you get killed for insulting the government. In America, it is a national sport! Thank you to the men and women who defend our right to do so!
Nice appearance but pretty shitty cover nd alignment and i saw at least three who accidently went eyes right instead of toward the Presidential Grandstand LOL.
Wow, you must be so proud of yourself blackulus4ever!!! Nobody ever makes mistakes, ever!!! You know, like nobody ever spells "and" wrong. I mean, what kind of a moron would spell "and" wrong. "And" has got to be the easiest word to spell, ever!!! (well, maybe "A" and "I" are easier, probably "at" and "if" and other two-letter words, too) Anyone who spells "and" wrong seriously should reconsider making stupid posts to things like the VMI Corps of Cadets marching at a presidential inauguration.
Wow, talk about black and white... Dude, take my advice: grow a pair and do something challenging with your life. VMI is so much of a better school to go to. I am so glad I chose to go to "The I" than somewhere like West Point or Annapolis. Make a smart decision
I'm Army ROTC, contracting. And after talking with people who have trained next to West Point cadets, I can officially say the school does not give you the training you need. The West Pointers at Airborne or Air Assault school were some of the weakest there, according to my friend, always bitching about PT and the like. I dont know much about norwich other than its cold. But the fact that its half civilian turns me off to the school instantly. Listen aznpinoy13, go VMI, not USNA.
I was looking at both schools, and I can honestly say VMI is head and shoulders above USNA. Its a totaly different experience. If all you care about is gaining rank in the navy, go to USNA. If you want to have a challenge and know you accomplished something, or if you want to be a Marine, go to VMI
My cousin is there right now hes a forth classmen in band co. He said he broke out a few days ago, so congratulations on becoming a forth classmen. Once I get back from my deployment I want to enroll at VMI.
I am proud of you VMI Keydets! You guys and gals showed that "West Point is the VMI of the North." See you in the sand. HOOAAH! (On a different note, I wonder what the new commander-in-chief was thinking when he saw the Corps in fixed bayonets. He does not support the 2nd Amendment, y'know?)
Ah, if he didn't' like it, he'll get over it... We didn't know we were going to be allowed to until shortly before step off. I know marching at fixed bayonets is pretty important to us seeing as it's one of the few things that sets us apart from any other military school in the country.
What does the 2nd Amendment have to do with fixed bayonets? If you're talking about the right to bear arms, as a Norwich grad you probably know there are no firing pins, so technically the rifles are just for show. But hey, I just love hearing stories about how all these gun people bought weapons in droves because Obama is going to take their right to buy guns. If anything, he'd restrict the types of assault weapons people shouldn't have in the first place. He's not anti-2nd Amendment.
you are exactly right. The only guns I own have been passed down by family for years. I don't need more. I know no American politician is going to take them away. I voted for Obama because he was the most intelligent and wisest choice for a politician next to Ron Paul who didn't have a chance. Only dumb rednecks went out to buy more guns and fear for their rights.
LOL guiness08, I give it to you as yes you probably hear the tune in your dreams, on the toilet, in the bush, studying or where ever, but dont forget the world watched this and its amazing from its history to the uniforms to the march to the cadets and to the tune...PS yis might be sick of it (I would be too doing it all the time like a broken record) but be proud showing it off when you can cos it ROCKS! ;-)
yay, im so glad you posted this! I was so mad when CNN went to commercial when the parade got to VMI. They made the view so tiny! But thanks to this I can see the cadets and all their glory!
Yay Geoff & James! Where ever you are in that sea of cadets! haha
I love VMI but the rats now are a joke. And cellphones for cadets now? No more break out hill? You might as well start calling them freshman, sooner or later the ratline won't exist.
Exactly my point. My dyke was class of '98 and he was much more hardcore than I was, and when I returned recently for a visit it was almost a 180 degree seperation. All my respect goes to the older generations that had it much harder.
Nothing there is a joke. It is sad that the Rat Line is not what it used to be. The upperclass takes great pride in being creative. Your day was good sir, but the Cadets now are also remarkable.
No doubt that anyone who goes there is remarkable. The academic challenge alone is more than enough to garner respect. However; point being that the Ratline in itself is now a joke. I have friends that were there in 2002 that have returned to finish and would argue to the death that the ratline even in the past 6 years has faded away. You can't argue that "getting it in" and an invisible line are hardcore... ask the old timers how they feel.
I would be wrong of me to argue the point that it's just as hard now as it was back in the day because I was not there. However, I will say this: after speaking with my scholarship sponsor, Maj Gen Collier VMI Class of '57, he stated that every class' job is to demean the class below it. Each class is SUPPOSED to view itself as 'more hardcore' than the next. It's a matter of pride. Yes, things have changed. But for better or worse, nobody can really say unless you go through it again.
I watch my husband ('07 and "Last Class Up The Hill") and my brother ('11 and somewhere in that mess) duke it out constantly. It's riotous to watch them fight about who is more hardcore. My husband shuts him up by waving his ring in my bro's face and watching him drool. Quite frankly, I'd like to applaud the girlfriends (and some of us eventual wives) that stuck by you through confinements, taps, and helping your butts run the block. But what do I know? I had the good sense to go to W&L! ;)
No one wants to discuss academics. Has anyone thought that the academic load this day and age may be "A LOAD ON ITS ON". Was the school ranked where it is today "BACK IN THE DAY". Not sure that it was. The system still works. Look at the product it turns out. Love the Institute and stop building your ego.
You stated that VERY WELl. You also made my point. LOOK AT YOUR REPLY. Handle the pressure and correct your spelling. These are just fun comments, not something to put you on blood pressure meds.. LOL
