  • looks like toy soldiers. so sick.

  • Bill Clinton wouldn't let me go, but he let the Nation Gay and Lesbian band go, wtf

  • @DoobNooby and @vmipiper, Bill Clinton "wouldn't let you go" because your state-sponsored PUBLIC university banned women until 1997. In 1993, when Pres Clinton was inaugurated, the Department of Justice was in the midst of suing VMI over its refusal to abide by the United States constitution.

I don't agree with Pres Clinton on much-- but bravo for refusing to reward bigotry and utter disregard for the constitution! And props to Pres Obama for inviting VMI back after the situation was resolved.

  • 12 hundred?? bet the only people who got out of this were the sick, and the basketball and maybe wrestling teams...

  • What some of you fail to realize is our marches in the United States are shown for honor... Unlike North Korea and China who use it to demonstrate military power. So far they haven't impressed me... except in econ

  • This isn't a march. It's a bunch of stumbling idiots.

  • @ufee thanks for the reply, Mrs. Pelosi

  • @kdinva

    ?

Yeah, North Korea has way better marches. China too.

  • @ufee Well, let's see. How about the entire United States marches its entire military force down Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to the Capitol, complete with airplanes, missiles, bombs, tanks, soldiers, huge drumlines, the whole nine yards (like NK,) and we'll see who has a "way better march." We'd put your sorry asses to shame.

  • @Nipponkoku Bigger doesn't equal better. They'd still suck at marching.

  • @ufee

Were you there? Have you marched in the Inaugural before as a part of a military unit, directly behind a college band playing entirely different cadence?

  • @bnctaj That doesn't matter. A march should be treated as a show, and these guys fail at entertaining me. Unlike, say, China or North Korea. This march is unimpressive, clunky and boring. The fact that this is so boring reveals their contempt for the audience and the fine art of marching.

I mean, come on. This is the only non-killing activity the military does well, and they fudge it all up.

  • @ufee

Chinese and North Korean marchers don't have to deal with the aforementioned issue. Furthermore, your assertion that the "only non-killing activity the military" does well is marching reveals your ignorance and contempt for the military and ignorance towards the Virginia Military Institute, which is a college.

  • @bnctaj I know the military has played the biggest role in developing technology and infrastructure, which trickles down to society at some point, an unintentional side-effect. Still, the end result is always enhancing their ability to kill people and maintain dominance.

Marching, on the other hand, is just silly. There's a very clear distinction between marching and everything else the military does.

  • do the citadel cadets get to wear those long coats and cape? if so, what occasion because ive never seen this uniform worn anywere else.

  • @dem3nted92 no just vmi its their winter dress

  • It appears you need to crack open a history book. I pity you. I really do. You have nothing else to do but bring in your hateful trash and post it to people you will never have to face in person. I am from California, I have no particular bias with the Civil War but I recognize ignorance and pathogenesis when I see it. Go to some other video to rant, this is not the platform for your misguided and uneducated hate.

  • hes prolly a stupid fuck that live in his mums basement..but im goin to VMI in august..any tips..

  • @italia1463 are you still in VMI? Im a rat in VMI now

  • @cOOLray13 lol yes im in golf company. it sucks balls

  • @cOOLray13 im lino. what company are u in

  • @italia1463 Mad Dog Delta....

  • @italia1463 yea i saw u at the game today

  • Comment removed

  • It's something else though when you feel that your experience as a RAT means nothing now because people that weigh 400 pounds and cannot do any physical exercise still make it through the system.

  • Are you criticizing people based on your experiences and interactions with them or by what you have seen or heard from popular media? Have you ever lived in a rural environment?

  • I'd like to thank Bill Clinton for robbing us of the opportunity to experience this....jackass

  • @vmipiper I love how in other countries, you get killed for insulting the government. In America, it is a national sport! Thank you to the men and women who defend our right to do so!

  • @vmipiper why?

  • Wow, you must be so proud of yourself blackulus4ever!!! Nobody ever makes mistakes, ever!!! You know, like nobody ever spells "and" wrong. I mean, what kind of a moron would spell "and" wrong. "And" has got to be the easiest word to spell, ever!!! (well, maybe "A" and "I" are easier, probably "at" and "if" and other two-letter words, too) Anyone who spells "and" wrong seriously should reconsider making stupid posts to things like the VMI Corps of Cadets marching at a presidential inauguration.

  • hehe my dad sold them there uniforms and he's going to measure them for their new ones next week, they're gonna be really pretty

  • Watching this makes me proud to be an American!

  • as a Citadel guy, I have to say ya'll looked damm sharp, go get em

  • As a Citadel guy, I am proud to admit, you guys looked sharp.

  • @jbuzzx thanks, hope The Citadel is there in 2013

  • Damn if Virginia seceded again, we could start a whole nother war with all those guys dressed in gray!

    Deo Vindice!

  • wow, vmi is awesome.

my two college choices: US naval academy, or VMI

    :)

  • Wow, talk about black and white... Dude, take my advice: grow a pair and do something challenging with your life. VMI is so much of a better school to go to. I am so glad I chose to go to "The I" than somewhere like West Point or Annapolis. Make a smart decision

  • I disagree with you but I do like VMI, way the fuck better than Norwich. What ROTC were you a part of?

  • I'm Army ROTC, contracting. And after talking with people who have trained next to West Point cadets, I can officially say the school does not give you the training you need. The West Pointers at Airborne or Air Assault school were some of the weakest there, according to my friend, always bitching about PT and the like. I dont know much about norwich other than its cold. But the fact that its half civilian turns me off to the school instantly. Listen aznpinoy13, go VMI, not USNA.

  • I was looking at both schools, and I can honestly say VMI is head and shoulders above USNA. Its a totaly different experience. If all you care about is gaining rank in the navy, go to USNA. If you want to have a challenge and know you accomplished something, or if you want to be a Marine, go to VMI

  • I remember walking behind a calvary unit.......not fun walking on horse dung

  • I love that they are in GREY.

The time is now ... 1856.

    Deo vindice!

  • Just in case any of you don't know, you can purchase a DVD of the entire parade form CSPAN for about $ 20

  • Rah Virginia Mil, Rah Rah Rah. Rah Rah, VMI, '12, '12, '12!

HOOAH 11B I AM INFANTRY FOLLOW ME

    US ARMY

  • Comment removed

  • was that the entire regiment? Rah Virginia Mil!

  • It's nice to know we have a wise and strong commander-in-chief now who will watch out for our brave and strong military heros.

  • Yea Stonewall Jackson and my cousin "Sandie" Pendleton his right arm. Watch "Gods and Generals" the movie.

  • the song is shenendoah

  • I am proud of you VMI Keydets! You guys and gals showed that "West Point is the VMI of the North." See you in the sand. HOOAAH! (On a different note, I wonder what the new commander-in-chief was thinking when he saw the Corps in fixed bayonets. He does not support the 2nd Amendment, y'know?)

  • Comment removed

  • What does the 2nd Amendment have to do with fixed bayonets? If you're talking about the right to bear arms, as a Norwich grad you probably know there are no firing pins, so technically the rifles are just for show. But hey, I just love hearing stories about how all these gun people bought weapons in droves because Obama is going to take their right to buy guns. If anything, he'd restrict the types of assault weapons people shouldn't have in the first place. He's not anti-2nd Amendment.

  • you are exactly right. The only guns I own have been passed down by family for years. I don't need more. I know no American politician is going to take them away. I voted for Obama because he was the most intelligent and wisest choice for a politician next to Ron Paul who didn't have a chance. Only dumb rednecks went out to buy more guns and fear for their rights.

  • My heart swells with pride as I watch them march; tremendous job, VMI!

  • VMI killed it!!! Makes me proud to be from VA.

  • Way to go VMI Keydets I am proud parent and very double proud of how you the showed the rest of world how to march with pride

  • The Coprs looked fantastic and sounded great to boot. Anybody know what that song was that the pipes and band were playing?

  • Yes, it's called Shenandoah.

  • I love inaugurations. They're the closest this country gets to military parades anymore. They're great.

  • THE BEST part of the day!! VMI always makes me proud! Go Keydets!

  • The corps looked great. To all who marched; I salute you. Job well done!

  • VMI KEYDETS!!!! You are the most amazing group of men and women. I am forever proud! Your honor shines through. Love ya KCP! 2009

  • haha why is youngsma straining?

  • Hell yes! We rocked that parade. RAH VIRGINIA MIL!

  • my best friend's brother is a cadet there and it gives me chills to know that he was marching in there :) wow!

  • I am so impressed - thank you cadets!

  • All I can say is that this was fantastic, they looked great and the old southern song was a nice fit. Excellent job VMI!!!

  • LOL guiness08, I give it to you as yes you probably hear the tune in your dreams, on the toilet, in the bush, studying or where ever, but dont forget the world watched this and its amazing from its history to the uniforms to the march to the cadets and to the tune...PS yis might be sick of it (I would be too doing it all the time like a broken record) but be proud showing it off when you can cos it ROCKS! ;-)

  • Rah Virginia Mil

  • That song shall forever haunt my dreams...

on the plus side, only my rats have to suffer through marching yet another parade

  • They looked soooo cool!! and Im from a different country, Australia/NZ.

Whats the tune they are marching too? its catchy and I love it

  • it's called Shenandoah. it's like the state song of Virginia pretty much.

  • wow tnks mate, beats walting matilda but i still like that song

  • hahaha duh. i live there!

  • yay, im so glad you posted this! I was so mad when CNN went to commercial when the parade got to VMI. They made the view so tiny! But thanks to this I can see the cadets and all their glory!

Yay Geoff & James! Where ever you are in that sea of cadets! haha

  • I <3 my cadet at VMI. Semper Fi.

  • I love VMI but the rats now are a joke. And cellphones for cadets now? No more break out hill? You might as well start calling them freshman, sooner or later the ratline won't exist.

  • My dad graduated back in the 80's, considers himself one of the last classes that had real Rats. Tough as nails.

  • Exactly my point. My dyke was class of '98 and he was much more hardcore than I was, and when I returned recently for a visit it was almost a 180 degree seperation. All my respect goes to the older generations that had it much harder.

  • Nothing there is a joke. It is sad that the Rat Line is not what it used to be. The upperclass takes great pride in being creative. Your day was good sir, but the Cadets now are also remarkable.

  • No doubt that anyone who goes there is remarkable. The academic challenge alone is more than enough to garner respect. However; point being that the Ratline in itself is now a joke. I have friends that were there in 2002 that have returned to finish and would argue to the death that the ratline even in the past 6 years has faded away. You can't argue that "getting it in" and an invisible line are hardcore... ask the old timers how they feel.

  • I would be wrong of me to argue the point that it's just as hard now as it was back in the day because I was not there. However, I will say this: after speaking with my scholarship sponsor, Maj Gen Collier VMI Class of '57, he stated that every class' job is to demean the class below it. Each class is SUPPOSED to view itself as 'more hardcore' than the next. It's a matter of pride. Yes, things have changed. But for better or worse, nobody can really say unless you go through it again.

  • I watch my husband ('07 and "Last Class Up The Hill") and my brother ('11 and somewhere in that mess) duke it out constantly. It's riotous to watch them fight about who is more hardcore. My husband shuts him up by waving his ring in my bro's face and watching him drool. Quite frankly, I'd like to applaud the girlfriends (and some of us eventual wives) that stuck by you through confinements, taps, and helping your butts run the block. But what do I know? I had the good sense to go to W&L! ;)

  • No one wants to discuss academics. Has anyone thought that the academic load this day and age may be "A LOAD ON ITS ON". Was the school ranked where it is today "BACK IN THE DAY". Not sure that it was. The system still works. Look at the product it turns out. Love the Institute and stop building your ego.

  • No one ones to discuss academics??? I'm pretty sure academics are part of the Garnett Andrews.

  • You stated that VERY WELl. You also made my point. LOOK AT YOUR REPLY. Handle the pressure and correct your spelling. These are just fun comments, not something to put you on blood pressure meds.. LOL

  • vmi definitely looked the best.

    you guys did amazing.

    i love my cadet!

  • I too cannot stop watching - thanks for posting. They were definately Best In Show! I am so proud of the Cadets especially my Rat! Go Aiken.

  • BEAUTIFUL! my fiance's a VMI grad and is deploying to afghanistan in a week or so--i can't wait for him to see this. he'll be proud!

great job, guys! you looked & sounded incredible, as always!

  • OUTSTANDING! Obviously the parade organizers saved the best for last. Alumni all over the world can be proud of this performance. Cadets, thanks for the continued hard work and dedication that makes VMI a special place.

  • Me too! I cannot stop watching it, I must have seen it at least 10 times already this morning in addition to seeing it live yesterday. Our son was marching (second batallion on the left) and we are all so so proud. Well done Cadets! VMI was the best in the whole parade. IMPRESSIVE!! Looking good, looking good VMI - always first class!

  • I can't keep from watching this over and over, I was so proud. RAH VIRGINIA MIL!

  • I love my cadet! They looked and sounded so great that I was cheering at my TV! I'm so proud of all of them! Rah Virginia Mil! <3 you Rob!

  • Superbulous ! I cant stop watching. My son is a Rat and I actually saw him on the clip from C-span. They grumbled about practicing, but wow did it pay off. They looked wonderful.

  • I don't care what college you went to, but that was impressive.

  • I am so proud of the corp of cadets! all that practicing sure paid off! And AMAZING job!

  • thank for posting i missed it on TV and my lil bro is in there somewhere!

  • Thank you! Much better quality than what I got. As my Cadet said: "SWEET!" An awesome showing, especially compared to the military academies :)

  • amazing! best in show

    Sent from my Helio Ocean

  • That was an amazing spectacle! I think it's my favourite part of the parade... a little sad that so few people left in the box, but Michelle Obama saying 'amazing' makes up for it somehow. Brilliant clip.

  • WOW , To quote MIchele Obama, " Amazing "

  • RAH VIRGINIA MIL!

  • YUUUUUUUUT!

  • Looking DAMN good!!! Hell yes!
