Alot of these issues arise from both the pressure on elephant habitat and also the fact that many herds were broken up then re distributed....which destroyed huge family lines in elephant groups
There was a documentary about the history of elephant treatment, I found that that alot of the reasons why elephants are going after crops and the people's land is because 1. destruction of natural habitat/pressue on their survival and 2. back in the 70s alot of elephant heards were broken up and simply re distributed later on, so there is a HUGE divide in the "family line" - which means alot of those which have bred become very troubled, hurt and aggressive elephants...they are social animals..
this is absolutely horrible. People don't understand that animals have attachments and maternal feelings like humans do, and they're not simply breathing things that move around "our" territory. It's ridiculous that what the humans started ended up as a huge ordeal with all these unnecessary losses of life. There was a documentary about the history of elephant treatment, I found that that alot of the reasons why elephants are going after crops and the people's land is because 1. destruction of natural habitat/pressue on their survival and 2. back in the 70s alot of elephant heards were broken up and simply re distributed later on, so there is a HUGE divide in the "family line" - which means alot of those which have bred become very troubled, hurt and aggressive elephants...they are social animals..
