I have been out of high school for one year. Everybody goes their seperate ways after graduating from high school. A few months later, I bumped into my high school classmates and I was surprised about what they were up to. Some of moved away, some of them are just working, attending trade schools, universities, community college, serving in the military, and I do have some high school friends that are doing nothing productive with their lives.
sigh i honestly feel like everyone got more imature as they got older after high school. i mean for me its like no one wants to go out and have any fun anymore to everyone its like going to bars and clubing and having sex and doing drugs and smoking and getting drunk are pretty much the only ways to have fun at this age (after sometimes during high school) and i am like mabye it is it just sucks i never got the chance to be imature then so i am still imature on my own.
i bet mos t of them are loser to wrk in a cublicle u have to b a white collare worker ther is no way all of them are successful theyr lying and will end devorcing in 2 yr the hell with them mark waldo emerson said " imitation is the worse form is suicide " dont conform to wat u see is wrong and unethical or not right for u
at this point of my life, i am aware of my goals and will most likely suceed on reaching them. i am 19 and i am a party animal, i hate the indoors, and i love spending time with friends, yet it seems like they are growing up. they get settled in and dont have time for me. i never was the type to want kids and a family, but now all i want is a ltr and i cant seem to get it, any advice? anyone had this problem in the past? how did you get throught it?

social anxiety sucks, but the solution i have found so far regarding it is to just chill out and try to step outside of yourself. .. as for the self esteem issues faking it till you make it seems to work pretty well... ha.

I think that you've brought up some really interesting points. I left school at 14, I was bullied out by the teachers and myself, the other kids didn't bully me much but they were scared of me so I only made a couple of friends, one of which I still keep in contact with. I recently did the same and looked up my peers from school and I've found that I've done much better in life than most of them. I think that real strength and ambition comes from within and cannot be learned at school.
Wow ppl at my school hated me and for what? Because I was different?? Wow.if only they'd take the time to notice SO ARE THEY. Heck I was pretty much forced to wear clothes from when I was 12 my whole high school life lol.

I had goals too because i had to have them to survive. yes, a lot of people get trapped. i will never get married or have children because they called me a rose, so they can fuck off. it's difficult to leave your home area because you don't have a support system.
i'm nothing like them though i wanna do philosophy at uni and my music teachers keep telling me to do music cuz i'm good at drums and obviously they're nothing like business.
why the hell would you want to be married with kids by the time you're 23? jeez, my parents got married young imo and they were 24 and 27, had me when they were 27 and 30. i mean at least they achieved something by then. dad was born for business and was the national head of a corporation by the time he was 25 (don't get the wrong idea he's not like maedoff and all them- he hated the job and left because of poeple like that) and mum always does the internal stuff in the businesses. great team.

Good for you for not settling for the typical routine lifestyle. You'll ultimately be more satisfied than your classmates. Keep pursuing your goals :)
I have noticed people just drift through life. they do what is easy and what is easy is usually doing what people expect, or pressure you to do. marriage kids and so on is what society expects of you. If you can stand up and say what YOU want that makes YOU mature. "they" haven't gone past high school. think of it this way. high school is about conformity. they are still conforming. You have grown and matured. they haven't. stay strong in you! you know what you want go for it!! YAY YOU!
kids are probably the hardest job in the world, I can't imagine what added stressors kids would bring into one's life.
And, just because someone has kids doesn't mean that they are mature. There are are some people who are IMMATURE who have children (and really shouldn't), take Nadya Suleman for example!
Also, if people are married, half of those marriages will end in divorce.
that's funny because i would personally think that everyone was immature (well, not EVERYONE because there were some honors students and other students who were serious about their studies were NOT AS immature.

This is my second year out of high school and I'm starting to notice all my friends getting married...starting families...having kids or going off to college while I'm stuck in my parents house still going to a community college with only a vague idea of what I want to do. I have only a couple close friends and even those I feel fading away. I know what you mean. I've never fit in, in high school or out of high school. I feel like I'm in an odd place and I have no idea where I'm going from here.

There are 60 year old doctors who are virgins, have no social skills and have never had any friends. i feel like that's the thing you have decided what you want to do with your life. i feel that often times you have to choose between starting a family and having to work average jobs, getting paid minim wage, unless you can afford having a baby and going to school, which most people cant. Or you could wait till you financially stable and then start that family life. You obviously have goals so you shouldn't worry about the whole love thing cause eventually youll get them both.
Do you know that the point of life is to love and have fun?
If you can't find people to relate to, go find some who you can. If you're actively seeking what makes you love then yo will neither feel left behind or ahead. You will be you and that is all that really matters.

Hearing you speak about work and how the staff always complains about your sad face, but you can't help it, etc, even your age is the same as me.
I'm a junior in high school, and it seems like all of my friends are in serious relationships. They're all 16-17, but they're with the person that they want to get married to.
I always feel awkward around them, because I'm the only one who isn't codependent and I have no desire to rush into life. We only live once, so why get married and tied down so young?
you kinda remind me of me. i have anxiety and depression and it has really stagnated my life. everyone else is either married,has kids or is in a serious relationship. i havent had a b/f in 4 years. its just too much drama for me. i see myself married w/ the white pickett fence but not the kids and i sometimes think that makes me different. i dont like the 9-5 either its not me.
i like the cubical philosophy....Its the american dream that way...keep everyone busy, and no one will move away from there box, especially when it comes to kids. Also some haven't given up on it....just, shit happens. Look at it in a whole view...why is america repeating itself over and over in the schools and education system. With goals and dreams, at the end of the day, its really what puts food on the table, especially if you have a family. To be honest, try traveling.

High School is like the last few years of easy-mode.
Your only obligation during that time was to go to a place with tons of people your age, and listen to people talk about various subjects most of which will not benefit you after you graduate. Money is not a necessity for survival.
After that, you stop going to the place you've been going to for four years. Many people that were in your life will no longer be there, and generating money becomes your new obligation.
There is nothing wrong with taking the time to meet the right person. Keep your standards high and you will be fine. It doesn't matter what other people think, their not living your life.
You are way smarter then your former schoolmates. I don't get americans at all...marrying at 20-25...dumbest thing ever! ...LIVE FIRST/ ENJOY YOURSELF / FIND OUT WHAT YOU WANT IN LIFE ...and who you really are etc. You can settle down and have kids when you are 30 or over. You have a very european attitude... Do what YOU wanna do...cause that's the only thing that is important. Don't think that being alone a lot is wasting time etc...not everybody likes crowds. : )

Dreams are when you imagine your self doing something. Goals are when you are doing something. Life is not a race track. There is no definition of who is ahead of who, because everyone has their own path. Conforming means having to come off of your path and wounder off to someone else's.
I think if you are still in highschool and try to make a clear cut path and goals to where you want to be when you're done, you should be fine. It is a scary transition but you can do it :)

I'm in high school now, and sometimes, when I think about what could happen to me in the future, it scares me. There is a big world out there, what if something bad happens? I kind of the same way, where I do my own thing occassionally. I don't always think of myself as lame, and you shouldn't either. I just do my own thing...for whatever that's worth.

Trust me, They will be jealous of you. People think that marriage and kids will make them happy but when they get into it they realize it's not what it's cracked up to be. Keep focusing on your career. You have a good 15 years before you need to settle down. The 30's are the new 20's!

I can relate to you very much so. Actually I remember feeling just the same in high school. Friends weren't more than mere people you knew and said 'Hi' to when you saw them. Sure I had my 1-2 friends that were close, but after time you wonder, "Who am I really?Where do I stand as an individual?" As the days go on I realized more and more that it's not who you aren't as much as who you are. I would feel the same way in school, thinking, "Wow these people, who are they? They act so childish."
I'd feel as though I really didn't 'belong' on a daily basis. Society is overrated in my opinion. Being 'normal' isn't what I've decided I want to be. I will just be 'me' and where ever it takes me, I'll be content.

My life was ruined by high school. I know the people that did this to me are leading normal lives and i just cant move on. Me and my friends lives just seem so much more dramatic than the giggly girls who think that boyfriends and history tests are the epitomy of stress, that think that a break up is the worst depression u could ever experience. Hi there. I completely understand what you mean. We are the same age (my bday is jan 25, 1985) and so many of my friends and people I went to high school with are married and have one or even TWO kids already. I mean, I would like to have that, but not this soon. I still have things to go, people to see, things to do. I'm stuck between hating this part of life when the future is so uncertain, and loving this part of life because I am so free to do whatever I want because I'm not tied down yet.
My birthday is January 8th :) I feel the same way you do, I think that in the long run, waiting and exploring life a bit before getting tied down for the rest of your life is a good thing. Eventually I want some of the things my friends have, but not this soon. Thanks for the comment, take care :)

I have noticed people just drift through life. they do what is easy and what is easy is usually doing what people expect, or pressure you to do. marriage kids and so on is what society expects of you. If you can stand up and say what YOU want that makes YOU mature. "they" haven't gone past high school. think of it this way. high school is about conformity. they are still conforming. You have grown and matured. they haven't. stay strong in you! you know what you want go for it!! YAY YOU!

And, just because someone has kids doesn't mean that they are mature. There are are some people who are IMMATURE who have children (and really shouldn't), take Nadya Suleman for example!

This is my second year out of high school and I'm starting to notice all my friends getting married...starting families...having kids or going off to college while I'm stuck in my parents house still going to a community college with only a vague idea of what I want to do. I have only a couple close friends and even those I feel fading away. I know what you mean. I've never fit in, in high school or out of high school. I feel like I'm in an odd place and I have no idea where I'm going from here.

i feel like that's the thing you have decided what you want to do with your life. i feel that often times you have to choose between starting a family and having to work average jobs, getting paid minim wage, unless you can afford having a baby and going to school, which most people cant. Or you could wait till you financially stable and then start that family life. You obviously have goals so you shouldn't worry about the whole love thing cause eventually youll get them both.

It's really strange that you feel so alienated and different from everyone, you are psychologically the same as me. It sounds really fucked up, but, my thoughts, my high school life, even what my high school group is doing now, it's like the same as your life.
Hearing you speak about work and how the staff always complains about your sad face, but you can't help it, etc, even your age is the same as me.

I always feel awkward around them, because I'm the only one who isn't codependent and I have no desire to rush into life. We only live once, so why get married and tied down so young?

i like the cubical philosophy....Its the american dream that way...keep everyone busy, and no one will move away from there box, especially when it comes to kids. Also some haven't given up on it....just, shit happens. Look at it in a whole view...why is america repeating itself over and over in the schools and education system. With goals and dreams, at the end of the day, its really what puts food on the table, especially if you have a family. To be honest, try traveling.

High School is like the last few years of easy-mode.
Your only obligation during that time was to go to a place with tons of people your age, and listen to people talk about various subjects most of which will not benefit you after you graduate. Money is not a necessity for survival.
After that, you stop going to the place you've been going to for four years. Many people that were in your life will no longer be there, and generating money becomes your new obligation.

I think if you are still in highschool and try to make a clear cut path and goals to where you want to be when you're done, you should be fine. It is a scary transition but you can do it :)

I kind of the same way, where I do my own thing occassionally. I don't always think of myself as lame, and you shouldn't either. I just do my own thing...for whatever that's worth.

I can relate to you very much so. Actually I remember feeling just the same in high school. Friends weren't more than mere people you knew and said 'Hi' to when you saw them. Sure I had my 1-2 friends that were close, but after time you wonder, "Who am I really?Where do I stand as an individual?" As the days go on I realized more and more that it's not who you aren't as much as who you are. I would feel the same way in school, thinking, "Wow these people, who are they? They act so childish."

I'd feel as though I really didn't 'belong' on a daily basis. Society is overrated in my opinion. Being 'normal' isn't what I've decided I want to be. I will just be 'me' and where ever it takes me, I'll be content.

hey there.just watched the video.interesting stuff.ya know most people say the toughest time of your life is your high school years.for me it wasthe first 5 years after high school.i watched most of my friends go in different directions.some got married.others moved away.i was lost for a long time.then i guess i just realized thats i needed to live my own life and not worry about how others were living theirs.you're a smart girl.give it time things will fall into place.just be yourself :-)

i relate. Im a junior and it keeps dawning on the me that im going to be out of high school in a little more than a year. Me and my friends lives just seem so much more dramatic than the giggly girls who think that boyfriends and history tests are the epitomy of stress, that think that a break up is the worst depression u could ever experience. Im not saying that these things aren't stressful however, there is so much worse, and by god there is so much better.

Hi there. I completely understand what you mean. We are the same age (my bday is jan 25, 1985) and so many of my friends and people I went to high school with are married and have one or even TWO kids already. I mean, I would like to have that, but not this soon. I still have things to go, people to see, things to do. I'm stuck between hating this part of life when the future is so uncertain, and loving this part of life because I am so free to do whatever I want because I'm not tied down yet.

My birthday is January 8th :) I feel the same way you do, I think that in the long run, waiting and exploring life a bit before getting tied down for the rest of your life is a good thing. Eventually I want some of the things my friends have, but not this soon. Thanks for the comment, take care :)

I so know how you feel in what you were talking about because I am the same way. I never try to conform to anything at all and I always did feel like I was higher than anyone at mu highschool as well.
