  • awsome work guys.Is it possible to connect wireless N accesspoint to the sattelite dish?

  • This is really cool :D

  • Comment removed

  • damn, I wonder if there is a way I can connect a dish like this to my WiFi repeater

  • Is Impressionant, Good boys!!...xD

  • thanks, the dish is fun!

  • and if you did give me his email, i want to know what kind of shampo he use

  • did you see big foot out there? did he had internet?

  • hilarious!

  • Great video and I forgot all about camping:) This will impress the pants off my family and friends

  • can you use any dish or it has to be that particular dish or brand? i have a "direct tv" and i wonder if i can use that

  • any dish will work.

  • Good work. Very enjoyable. Keep it up.

  • Good job rly , pls make new video :D.

  • very soon. i just want it to be good.

  • I hope so , becouse this movie is just epic!! i mean great idea with dish and usb and man ,,, real cliff spot the HIGH one! :)

  • Does a larger dish gather more signal?

  • yes it does.

  • This is crazy cool man! I'm getting my parents old satelite dish to make me one. I think I'm just going to buy an external antenna tho so it'll be safer to leave outdoors in the weather. I'll definately post a vid of it!

  • Cool, can't wait to see it! Thanks for the comment.

  • wat if ur wireless is buildt into like say ur laptop then wat can u do or if u didnt hav a dish

  • I've never seen a laptop with an external antenna for the WiFi, so you'd have to get an external USB card to put into the dish.

  • you can use an external antenna set up and tap directly into your network card by purchasing the proper cable. it's really easy, but you'll need to drill a small hole in the access door to route the cable out of your laptop :)

  • the world record is 150 miles that's far

  • how do you share the wifi with the other pc ??

  • Depending on whether or not they can reach the signal then just set it up as an unsecured wap

  • Hey man I love you... you are the best... there is nothing that will stop you to get internet... no matter where you are you keep proving it... actually you gave me a great idea... I wonder how many KM will pick a simple salad bowl home made dish... I will try this in a couple of weeks! I will let you know!!! :D keep with the great videos and exploring around man!!!

  • thanks, I can't wait to see what you come up with!

  • you can't stand people hating on stuff, but you troll this video.

The point was: to be able to check my email for work, while at that spot, camping.

  • Sir whats the approx. range with this antenna?

  • I've connected to an indoor, omni directional antenna at 1.5 km away

  • wat software u use ???

  • PassMark WirelessMon

  • I did run into a few gliches but eventual correct all of these issues with high success.

I still have to see where this signal originates if I recall correctly in the location I live there is no wifi, I figure the signal must be within three miles from this location, so far so good..

  • well i have to say this vid gave me the grounds to give this experiment a go, I haven't applied it to the dish yet but have put the can approach to the test, have to say it works with a very strong signal, I live in an apt that is 5 stories about ground level and I have picked up around 20 signals which found one to be a unsecured site, that is what I am using to send you this email,

  • grab some pictures of your setup, and send them over

  • This is a great video. Let me ask, were you able to run the other laptop from the connection with the laptop connected to the dish? I want to build one of these, but I want to hard wire it to my pc, and also be able to use a laptop wirelessly in my house. I have a public hotspot about a half a mile away, but don't know if I can run my PC and Laptop off of one dish antenna? Any help would be appreciated.

  • I'm sure there is a way to do that with 2 wireless cards, but I haven't figured it out yet.

  • It's simple. You need two cards, hard wire one and wifi one. Set your own IP on the wifi one. Than just connect to that IP with your other wifi PC.

It's exactly same setup as having rwo hard wire cards on one PC to distribute netwourk around home.

  • an even easier way, have an ethernet cable and bridge the wireless adapter with the local area connection and both laptops can use the internet.

  • so connect the laptops via the ethernet cable, and bridge the wireless connection to that?

  • easier way, take the one laptop, share it's wireless internet, enable the eithernet port (if not allready enabled), and plug that into a 20$ wireless router

  • Cool!

  • freaking cool!

  • is that second computer running Backtrack or some kind of linux distro? i think it's airodump-ng.....

  • that's ubuntu 7.04 running airodump-ng

  • you havnt posted anymore "wi-fi" adventures ?

  • I had planned to, but things for busy, and now it's winter here. I'll make sure to do another one in the spring with my 1M dish.

  • good job guys :) very intersted lesson :D

  • I can't believe this worked - the dish shouldn't have been on the ground. I usually tie it with rope to a tree now, if I can.

  • Shit, this looks neat.

  • It's good fun. Sometimes I just go out for fun, to see how far away I can see connections.

  • What is the furthest you have reached? Have you considered building a bi-quad in the place of your thumbdrive / cantenna LNB?

  • ive seen connections ove 6km away, and connected at 1.4km. I did consider building a bi-quad, but I can't find a adapter with an external antenna port, and I don't have the soldering experience to mod a card without. Do you think it would improve this design alot to have a bi-quad feed?

  • Do I think it would improve your signals, EnGenius has external USB WiFi with external antenna that puts out 200mw. You can purchase short (2 feet or less) coax cables with the correct connectors (tricky part) pre made. I would love to see your same documented experiments performed again utilizing the bi-quad as your LNB on the dish and compare the differences.

  • Thanks, I'll check that out. I really do want to try the bi-quad, as this design is based off of engadget's dish and bi-quad tutorial from 2005.

  • I left a 2nd response that didn't show up. I was going to mention Engadget. Also Google martybugs for better detailed instructions on building a bi-quad.

  • i have got the same dell laptop its tge old once right but when you kit them up they are perfect

  • Ya, it is old - but still super good for this type of thing.

  • That is impressive and it gives me new hope of successfully making one. I need to be able to pick up a signal a kilometer away (so I can share with my friend who has dialup...), but its line of sight is through some trees. Hopefully that won't impact it too much...

    Great job!

  • thanks, and good luck!

  • how do you get the vectors right (from the dish to the collector?)

  • reference offset parabolic dishes

  • thank's for showing looks like I got anothere use for my extra dish beside a parabolic mic.

  • i've thought of trying this with my audio condenser mic. You've tried this method with a tv dish?

  • Yes I got regular mic from wally world and a

amplifier from radio shack I hacked the mic made them into one mic sound prettey good.

I'll send you a pm of it.

  • Hi!And sorry for my bad english but I'm fron Bulgaria.I have two questions.

1.What program use Poll(sorry if I change your name)?(Air..) And the second...

    2.Where are you?(Country,City)?

    10x!

  • the program is Passmark Wirelessmon - the video was filmed near Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada

  • does it have to be a circular dish cause i have a oval shaped one and it doesnt want to work

  • an oval shaped dish will work also

  • Nothing like going out to the wilderness to steal wifi.

  • nice eh

  • that is so freking cool

  • Awesome! Reminds me of Mullins' interbong connection!
