I was so happy I found out I can pick up the cat and take it's hair, same as with the chicken's feather :)

I didn't find the trick with the mirror and the medusa, my best friend (22 years earlier) showed me that (probably someone told him, he wasn't so smart! just said he managed! I never believed him!) :)

@LandOfMutants Actually, the music is not very good here because Sierra designed their early games to work with a Roland MT32, which at the time was the best music-thing you could get for your computer, but it was VERY expensive and most people didn't have one. So the game would play the MIDI equivalent, which is what you hear here, and it is not all that great.

Check out Dilandau3000's walkthroughs of various Sierra games and you'll hear how these games were meant to sound.

Jeesh, that was pretty callous of Manannan. "Sweep the floors!" Then two minutes later: "Feed the chickens!" I know that's how he is, though. The big jerk. But I love this story. So fun! :)

One of the times I played this, I got to the part where I was making the magic food that would turn Manannan into a cat. I'd used the porridge already, so I put the cat cookie into a bread loaf and it worked. I was really nervous though.

you got to slow down the movement (pick the slowest)... plus it helped that my computer was so outdated it was already slow as hell back then.

Nice thinking :) One time, I wasn't done with the stuff in time, and the wizard came back so I gave him a loaf of bread for dinner instead of porridge (and he didn't mind!) but I was like "Uggh crud I'm going to be too late". It ended up working out, though; I put the cookie in porridge and boom, turned Mannanan into a cat! :D I never got past the snow mountain but I still felt good because I didn't get killed by Mannanan. Feels nice to be free from a tyrannic wizard.

Wait actually, I gave him the porridge and put the cookie in the bread, I think....and it still worked. I was really upset though, because I thought you could only put the cookie in the porridge, so I thought I was going to still be a slave then killed. But I tried the bread because I was desperate and when it worked I was really happy.

@111puffinmuffin111 if you bought the game it came with the book which has the backstory and the mission, which is to escape. The book also contains the recipes you need to do the spells from the spell-book in the laboratory. You can't get through the game without the book. It's copy-protection, which most of the other KQ games also have.

Well there's abbdonware sites or Vivendi games who owns the rights to all Sierra games has released the King's quest collection(KQ 1 - 6, seven is seprate) on Steam and it has a modded version of Dos box to run them

Oh, man, I hated this game as a kid. The wizard would tell me to feed the chickens, so I'd type, "feed chickens," and get a reply of, "just walk there."

Nowhere. They are still copyrighted. But there are fan remakes of KQ I through III - just google for them. They are as good as the originals and maybe even better because of real music and better graphics. I played them all and liked them.

You definitely needed a walkthrough for this game. There was no way to even get past the wizard otherwise. I didn't even know you could hide your inventory under the bed!

I had this game for my Amiga 500 with no harddrive. Would use the RAM to store everything on 512KB of RAM. If you were a baller you had the 1MB RAM. Whats nuts is I was even a pirate back then. I had this on a 3 1/2 floppy that I copied from a friend. No instructions and everything was command lines. This was one of the first games to get me hooked on computers and games. EXCELLENT VIDEO!!

I used to watch my older brother and cousin play this game and it fascinated me as a kid, I remeber going in the desert, getting jacked by the robbers, trying to catch the ship and doing the chores for the wizard, of course we could never get past tryin poison the wizard he would always come back and turn un into a frog or some animal in the middle...great memories
