    Depending on cam and turbo its around 2,200-2,500 on a duramax if that

    Gas is more around 3,000 - 3,800 but also deisels dont really red line much over 4,000 rpm if that and gas trucks dont usually red line past 5,500-6,000

  • If that's 470 hp then that hemi is bad ass cause the duramax had a huge jump and it did not leave it by much

  • lol nice, "def 120mph", since im not sure of what mods are on the truck I just want to say you should be very careful going into the 100+ speeds, GM only balanced the drive shafts to the mid 90's range so any faster for long periods of time could result in catastrophic failure and some serious damage or even a wreck...

  • I saw somebody say the duramax was a dually its not its a short bed 4wd and was ran in baytown tx and ran a 13.4. So it would definetly compete with an Srt10. Hemi is fast for a hemi its cammed with programmer and a bunch of other bolt ons it has never ran down the track but i would say it prob ran mid to high 13s. These are my friends trucks which none of them have those trucks anymore.

  • @Metallica613 Horsepower doesn't win races. Torque on a diesel is higher than on a gasser. Plus diesels reach their max torque at lower RPM (2000-3000 range) where as a gas reaches its max torque at a range of 4500-5500.

  • @jag32010 frist of all its not a hemi those trucks have viper motors in em. yeah the srt10 is racing. did you not notice how the both launched at the same time and the chevy slowly pulled him. the viper motor is rated at 500 hp but not makin near the torque of the duramax. thats why in this case the srt10 got its ass waxed down

  • An un-tuned Hemi is slow as hell. A stock 144mph top end hemi 5.7 will top that in 4th gear easily with a gear left.I hit 170 with a bit left,it was still pulling good at 160. So many people know so little about cheap horsepower. Tune the ecu,let the engine breathe better,run some real gas and hold on.

Vehicle with great HP will accelerate faster unless the vehicle with great torque launches it other wise it will looses to the vehicle will great HP. Top speed is definitely all about the HP though :)

    Horsepower is the result of your torque and RPM ratio. 470hp for diesel means it's got to be pulling big torque numbers considering that the top RPM of these duramaxes are roughly 4,000rpm. I know for a fact that my 6.2 diesel doesn't exceed 3,200rpm. It's pretty funny to read the debates about horsepower and torque, when no one really knows what the hell they're talking about.

    I'm not quite sure how to put this. The torque is how much power the engine puts out. The higher it is, the less time it takes to reach your top rpm, but in a diesel's case, the top RPM is rather low, My 6.2's top is about 3,200rpm. Top RPM is generally lower on diesel engines, on a gasoline engine the RPM range is a lot higher so naturally a gasoline powered car has a greater top speed. But for simply taking off low end torque is what it's all about.

    Well horsepower is just the result of RPM and Torque. A car that's idling obviously won't have the same torque output as it would at a much higher RPM. So as your torque and rpm go up your horsepower rating will no choice but to follow. My rig only has about 165hp, most v6's have more, but my torque output is about 330lb ft @3,200rpm.

  • @1kgsxrk7 not entirely true buddy - a modern 3L diesel has more torque per tonne than an F1 car. It's all about at what revs the torque is produced that gets you to go fast. The lower down it is, the slower you'll go. If it's high up you can use gearing to further increase the torque output at the drive shafts.

My friend runs a 2004 5.9 cummins 4inch exhaust cut off right at the back door k&n intake not sure which stage, and a smarty. No Gear changing on any and we both top out i dunno around 115 120 dont know both our speedos stop at 110 if i remember right

There just isn't any practical way to make a box nearly 19 feet long and six feet tall weighing 5023 pounds feel nimble. However, we should note, this Silverado is reminiscent of the big honkin' Impala SS of yore, in that you can load it up with six people and do smoky burnouts all night long--or at least until the tires melt.

  • It may have more HP,but weight sometimes is the difference maker...the lightning weighs 4600lbs, with a much lighter engine(5.4LV8)(600lbs...the SRT10 weighs 5200lbs with a much heavier engine(8.3LV10)(830lbs)...600l­b difference in truck weight, 230lbs difference in engine weight..830lbs difference is quite abit in the racing word...the lightning also has a supercharger...and you can factor in if they are standard or not...like i said, theres alot to consider..more HP doesent always win
