  • Great Performance :) Our AS Music teacher at college showed us some sax concertos as examples and I particularly enjoyed this one. In the classical world, the Saxophone is a bit like the Double Bass as in that there are some absolutely beautiful concertos and solos written for it but only the players of the instruments seem to know them. But well done on a great performance :)

  • I was originally a pianist, turned saxohponist in 5th grade, turned oboist in 6th grade and learned the clarinet in the 8th grade. I love this genius autumnal work and in my compositions I will do everything in my power to bring classical music and the saxohpone back to light, even if it is the last thing I do.

  • Jody Jazz DVNY is a jazz mouthpiece but it has the darkest, warmest tone I've ever heard.

  • @ThePooponthelawn Hey, you ever heard of the Vandoren tl4 optimum mouthpeice??......that's the one i play on, nd it sounds good....thing is, i heard there's a tl5 mouthpeice, but i've never seen it.

  • @ThePooponthelawn What is the different between the Vandoren Optimum Al3 and Al4?

  • @coolthing21 I'm petty sure that the AL4 is more open

  • omg, this music is fucking amazing!!! i know that it was composed in 1936 (just when was starting the civil war in my country). simply amazing!

  • I'm working on this piece and it is impossible! I only have a month and a half to learn it before a major audition. My immediate respect goes to anyone who can play this well.

  • cool

  • that yani sounds hella good

  • Is Embouchure is so perfect its crazy you look at him and you see no tension or anything its looks like he just has the mouth piece in his mouth but not doing anything. I need to copy him.

  • BEAUTIFUL TONE..

  • What an excellent tone! BRAVO!!! Erg goed!

  • What an excellent tone! BRAVO!!!

  • Im in 11th grade and im going to be playing this on Bari for solo ensomble... i dont think the judge will go after that im playing an alto pice on bari, what do you think?

  • @lawlpwnd350 Hi. I think there are many pieces that are written for baritone that you could play. The Glazounov is very specifically written for alto saxophone, and in my opinion, is really not suitable to be played on baritone sax!

  • @avanzoelen ya definately not for bari

  • @avanzoelen Um, I disagree. After Talking with two great professors from great big 12 universities, they both told me that I should play it on bari for a concerto competition I entered. Which I won. It's never been done professionally, and I plan to be among the first.

  • @lawlpwnd350 Who gives a shit? As long as it sounds as nice and smooth as this. I guess the thing to watch out for would be to make sure it soars, and doesn't sound rough and

  • I have a meyer m5 for jazz and am looking to get a classical mpc, would a A28 be good to get, or i know selmer c is good, or something else?

  • @FantomOfFear Hi. there is a lot of choice these days. Just try several mouthpieces that work well for you and suit you soundwise.

    all the best

    Andreas

  • @avanzoelen I picked up an old Selmer C* S80, what do you think about ligatures?

Right now I'm using a rovner dark

  • @avanzoelen I picked up an old Selmer C* S80, what do you think about ligatures?

Right now I'm using a rovner dark, are you using a vandoren optimum?

Also, what reeds do you use, i am using the standard vandorens

  • @FantomOfFear it really depends on the reed you use, generally, 2 1/2 and under are great for a fairly open mouthpieces, and 3's and up are better suited for closed mouthpieces, find what your reeds are and that should narrow down the choices, one of my favorites ( i use 2 1/2) is the vandoren al3, beautiful rich tone, but also has the ability to reach them high notes as well

  • What would be better to buy if i have a selmer paris c star? Would it be a vandoren optimum or a rovner?

  • That was pretty soothing.

  • Very nice.

  • I like your vids!! I use exactly the same mouthpiece, ligature and reeds as you. But I have a Jupiter artist XO saxophone!

    Keep it up!!

  • Beautiful video, Andreas. Beautiful playing/sound, too!

  • pass the tissues... thats stunning. I am in awe.

  • Do you like the 991 over the 992?

  • what for saxophone has you?

  • At this performance I used;

    A Yanagisawa 991 (about 8 or 9 years old)

Vandoren A28 mouthpiece, no.3 Vandoren reeds.

Optimum ligature, with the vertical line shaped plate.

  • awesome!

  • ahhhh i just discovered this concerto and I'm so delighted there's non-contemporary music for saxophone! This is so amazing! Perfection, thank you!

  • What school of saxophone study are you part of? I can pretty much guess French or American but they're pretty close

  • He's a professor of saxophone at the Fontys Conservatory in Titburg, Netherlands. In short, he's Dutch.

  • wheres the rest?

  • thats sick man. how its supposed to sound

  • In your opinion would this be an acceptable piece for a college audition? They said any major concerto so....

  • definately! and good luck with the audition!

    best

    Andreas

  • @indiluv01 try the dahl if your up for it..

  • @indiluv01 dahl, that will get you real far in the world of concertos, or this

  • I think the saxophone is A992 with a S80. good job on it

  • A991

    Vandoren Traditional 3 (blue box)

    Vandoren A28 mouthpiece

    Vandoren Optimum ligature

    just to clarify

  • is vandoren optimum really that good? o.o

    i mean the ligature

  • YES!

    nuff said...

  • ligatures generally dont make a huge difference to the sound but it just depends on the person. my friend got rid of his $60 optimum for a $12 rovner. plenty of pros use the $5 two-screw ligatues. They obviously choose the best of the best of items so that means they prefer them over things like the optimum. find what works for you as a player

  • yes it comes with 3 interchangeable plates one thats bright, one thats in the middle, and one really dark one for classicle music like this. superb ligature.

  • Good

  • amazing! Masterpiece.

  • any one happen to know what mp he uses?

  • Beautiful. I played this to audition to the School of music here at my college. Such an incredible song. He plays it very well.

  • Perfect! The Best!!!

  • I'm accompanying this on piano for a saxophone player. I'm so excited about it. We start rehearsing together soon. :D

  • que popi......!!!!!!!apppppero que Cachapokiteto.!!!!!

    The best! Great!

  • Beautiful Tone. Thank you for sharing.

  • yes you can purchase it... i just ordered it into my local music store for about $30 it i the Glazounov saxophone concerto... and it is very well worth the money

  • what kind of saxophone is that

  • it looks like a yanagisawa a991, but that is just based on the neck.

  • This is very good. It is truly unfortunate that there are not more classical pieces for saxophone. I also thought that it was nice to hear a classical saxophone piece that showed off more of the saxophones range than just the highest octaves.

  • Compose your own!

  • Oh, there are Saxophone Pieces, but as the Sax was invented in 1846, there's just music up from that date, romantic and more modern classic.

  • the sax was first patented in 1846, invented a few years earlier, 1839 being the year that we use as marking point.

  • sure :D you can't invent such a great instrument in one year.

  • It is a Yanagisawa A992. I just got one last week. The body is made of Bronze not Brass like most saxes. If you are thinking of making a living off of playing the saxophone, this is a must try!! For the person wanting to know how much a saxophone costs, for a beginner you can expect to spend between $1000 and $2000 American. Just make sure you don't fall for the ones that look nice but cost $400 or something. They are usually junky. As good brand for beginners I usually recommend Yamaha.

  • i agree witch you, here in poland there are many saxesx from China which are just junk too. Its price is beetwen 1300 - 2100 złotych (300 - 550 Euro )If you're going to start playing sax (at te begeaning) you ought to spend over 800 Euro for it. Good mouthpiece and reeds are important too. I've got old yamaha model produced under another name - VITO. it's similar to old yamaha yas 21, but with Otto link 7* it sounds so great so i can't change it for another.

  • My selmer, almost 10 years ago was 3600 dollars...now...you would be lucky to get it for 5500.

  • Very Nice!!...how much is a saxophone anywayS? tips plz.....wanna learn how to play sax...

  • That horn looks and sounds magnificient. Is it a yamaha? I want that ligature too but for me its pricey =( absolute amazing performance.

  • Defiantly not a yamaha. The only major brand i know of that has that type of neck is Yanagisawa.

  • To wykonanie mi się bardzo podoba

  • cool

  • Mooi hoor!!

  • WOW... Astonished!

  • that's what I like to see, a yani a990. nicely done, that is a great classical horn.

  • Wonderful. Full of class. I am almost inspired to pick that piece up and play it for competition.

  • Beautiful!

  • Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it =)

  • i love this concerto and the interpretation is very good. bravo!!!

  • Stunning...thats all I can say

  • Wow. That was stunning. I want to see the rest of this video, anyone know where I can find it.

  • What a treat to get to do it with a symphony. EXCELLENT

  • If you go to van Zoelen's website, it says he plays on Keilwerth saxophones.

  • is this the glazunov concerto in Eb op.109?

  • isusaxophone: You're right, he's using a Vandoren V5 mouthpiece, I own one and it's exactly like Van Zoelen's

  • This is the best rendition of the Glazounov I've had the pleasure of hearing. Technique is immaculate and his phrasing impeccable. Btw, not that it means anything (Mr. van Zoelen would sound amazing on any horn he plays on) but his horn looks to be a pre-991 Yanagisawa model, possibly an A990. The fork F key is telling.

  • "The fork F key is telling."

Sometimes yes, but I've played a 991 that had a pearl front F. Possibly an earlier one, but I don't remember the serial.

  • What sax and mouthpiece are you using? Looks like a yanagisawa, I have the a991 yani and a caravan large chambered mouthpeice and really like it.

  • He's using what seems to be an emoiline (sp?) Yanagisawa. I'm not so certain about the history of these instruments, as there aren't too many people around that have them and want to talk about them (probably because they themselves don't know). He's using a Vandoren mouthpiece (hard to say, A17, A27, A28 maybe) and an optimum lig.

  • I think he's actually using an S80...my A15 doesn't have a shank that long.

  • actually oyu cna't tell if it is an s80, s90 or larry teal - I own all 3...they all have the same shank...probably the same blank.

  • Which do you think is better?

  • Marvelous! Yanagisawa should thank you and propose you an endorsement!

  • Nice , I would love to hear the rest!

  • Glazounov Saxophone Concerto I like it!

    perfect!

Irealy wanna watch thewhole ofthe film.thanks~~~!

  • Quite lovely! I'm playing this piece next semester.

  • i like your interpretation of that wonderful piece. i really wanted to hear the cadenza though.

  • my teacher pulled that piece out for me to play the other day. what an awesome piece

  • nice job ..can u post the other half of the piece? im going to play this concerto next month..thanks

  • good

  • You have a very nice tone in your saxophone. But where is the rest? You should upload the whole piece, it's a very nice one. Played this for Grieg Conservatoire in Bergen this Wednesday. Too bad I didn't have your orchestra :)
