Fix an xbox with error code 16+21 without EEPROM pt1

This also worked for me. I did a hell of a lot of messing about trying to get the cdrom and xbox on the correct channels because Xboxhdm was telling me there wasn't anything connected, i had to use an older computer with 2 psychical ide sockets as my newer mobo doesn't have any. That was the bulk of the messing about for me, the actual work carried out in this video took less than 5 mins when i did it. The other 10 hours was spent messing with jumper pins, cables, bioses and lots of swearing.

@LIVEEYES Modern Harddrives are SATA and use different cords then older hard drives. You need the hard drive called IDE, look at local privately owned pc stores for them as you can find many for only $10

I ma sorry for the spam but how do you set up your computer to want to boot from the cd. I think theres more to it then taking out the hd of the pc. don't you have to set it up so that when the computer starts the cd is being read? (like if you wanna hack a pc using a cd password crack)

yes you need to get into your bios. you do this when the computer does a post test. Meaning before you boot any OS. you will see a screen of data about your computer. You look at the screen somtimes in the bottom left part of your screen will tell you to press the Delete key on your keyboard to enter bios. Once in the bios you got to boot setup. You should see your hard drive as 1st change it to cd/dvd-rom device and save then restart with the cd in the drive and it should boot it.

Ok I am wondering, if I fucked up my soft modded xbox and I didn't backup the eeprom on my computer will this software still work? And how do I relock the xbox hd becuase I have read that hot-swapping unlocks the hd but if you don't relock it your xbox is dead forever. Do you need linux for this to work or does it work on windows?

I have xbmc right now and I tried to backup the orignal ms dash and the error 21 came up and it wont read discs anymore I need help.

yes the software will still work. It uses a linux os type interface booted right from the cd.

you just need the software and need to set in your bios the dvd/cd-rom drive as 1st priority to boot so that the cd boots at the starting after you turn on your pc. when you pop in the cd restart your computer so that it will boot your cd first. It will boot into a linux dos like thing mainly called bash but it's the software.

You need the EEPROM reader to get the xbox hdd key so you can unlock the hdd and then you can use the recovery tool to build the hdd and then you have to lock the hdd back so it doesnt give you error code 5.

Error 21 can also be a broken HDD, like mine was.

If that's the case, get something like Xplorer360 and try to rescue your files.

Otherwise buy yourself a new HDD and install the latest backup...

Erm, AFAIK you usually don't need to format your drive when you have code 21.

Rebuilding the C drive should do the trick.

For that, choose '2' after the "xboxhd" part. You can also replace single files using "Xbrowser", which is also contained in XBHDM.

easy. buy a new hard drive. open up the hard drive. unplug the original hard drive. take it out. put the new one in. and connect the cords to it then start it up. all new hard drive will have the os already on them. if the hard drive doesn't have the os it will need to be installed, if the xbox is somewhat like the xbox you can try hooking the xbox upto the disk drive in a computer and install the drivers from there.

This program is called Xboxhdm but you need at least the dashboard file because error 16 is a dashboard error. I had the same problem so I used that program and added a new dashboard. Worked like an angel.

This will work if you Xbox HD is still in working condition, this will basically restore its Dashboard and allow you to either Modded or just set it back to defaults. This worked beautifully.

You need to search for the file "xboxhdm_v1.9" and then find the file "slayers evox 2.7 final" (can be found through torrents).

After you unpack the xboxhdm_v1.9 you must copy the files from the retail C folder from slayers evox 2.7 final to the C folder in the linux directory within xboxhdmv1.9. Then click on the file to create an .img of the xboxhdm to burn to disk.

It might take a couple tries to get the timing right on the swap. Don't be scared...it works.
