  • Gloucester looked thriving in the 70's , not a chav insight!!

  • Gloucester aint that bad im from there, born and grown up there its not like when you walk down the street your going to be muredered i love gloucester

  • Ah the 1970's. The decade when Gloucester got destroyed by hideous buildings.

  • Have you notice that at 3:34 a couple nearly get mashed by a car in the background

  • absolutely fabulous - loved it thanks for posting

  • kings square actually looks nice here not the piece of shit it is now

  • OMFG IT WAS SO MUCH NICER BACK THEN IT IS FULL OF CHAVS AND RUN DOWN STREETS NOW I CANT WAIT TILL THE REDEVELOPMENT IS DONE... ACTUALLY, THE COUNCIL WILL PROBS FUCK THE WHOLE PLACE UP EVEN MORE

  • Gloucester is on its way back, after years of neglect - here's to the redevelopment of a great city!

  • its so weird to see some of these buildings are still there. many are not. I was born in gloucester and still live here 40 years later !!!

  • another lovely journey , back through time . was'nt walls ice cream made in gloucester ?

  • @midsaint776 yh it was - it still is to

  • Is it just me or does the narrator of this film clip sound EXACTLY like the narrator of just about every educational video I was ever forced to watch while still at school?

  • I've lived in Gloucester my whole life, like the rest of the country it was ok until the new Labour era.

  • @technocrac Could'nt agree more, why should we pick up the bill?

  • Great to see so much i remember !!!

  • Some of this is 1970s yes ,but some is the 1960s because of the buses with the old Gloucester City coat of arms.

  • Whoa, looks like a proper city in this video. They should never have pedestrianized it!.

  • They should have left Kings square as a car park

  • Amazing footage.

No illegal immigrants wandering around and no polish food shops.

  • @darthvadersgay lmao good one mate

  • @darthvadersgay Yep thats the biggest difference for sure! And back then you had less chance of being stabbed or offered drugs. Wont be long before all the street signs are written in Polish.

  • that bloke does commentary on a lot of railway dvds as well

  • I live here but gloucester sucks

  • It's very sad thinking about Gloucester today. The main street shows a ghostcity and all the shops now are close.

  • had the misfortune to live there in the 90s, what an utter shithole.

  • This may sound really sad. But I feel so homesick now

  • @bella6661muerte wow you actually miss gloucester?? i didn't think that it was possible to miss this craphole lol. cant wait to move.

  • this is gloucester massachusetts right the oldest seaport with the greecy pole if it is it looks so much different

  • This is not Gloucester, MA in the USA which is a very beautiful place to live. This Gloucester is in England and apparently is not so great.

  • lol some times they do, sometimes they don't. It's a messed up world, nothings perfect, but I like Gloucester, or grotcester as you call it lol.

  • I think you are a very narrow minded person. So women are the ones blamed for getting 'knocked up'? I thought it took two people to make a child. Feckless men these days shouldn't be so scared of responsibility, then perhaps there wouldn't be so many single mothers. Oh, to reply to your ' first bloke who pretends to take an interest' obviously goes to show that the men will do anything to get some, regardless of the results. So please don't use that useless scathing tone with me.

  • I agree. What a dump the town centre is. lived there for years.

  • There's a lot more worse places than Gloucester, and no city is perfect, everywhere has beggars, drunks and smackheads. Cheltenhams no better. Everybody's got there heads stuck up their asses.

  • aww come on everyone gloucester isnt all chavs an chavettes i live in gloucester full my whole intire life and it canme rough in matson and barton and some areas in podsmead but its really nice give gloucester a chance

  • Scary. I'm nearly 28 so I remember the cross before pedestrianisation. The best bits are the old cinema, now the regal, but it was also previously the regal! Also that subway by the bus station, I cannot remember ever using it, no wonder it got filled in.

  • oh come one, gloucester isn't that bad. I've been here all my life and its slowly starting to improve. obviously we have the nasty areas like barton and matscum but hempstead, quedgeley, abbeymead n upton are fine. and no, im not in anyway a chav, just a normal person living life.

  • Eh man I live in Barton just cos it's the city centre for Crack, Brown, Pissheads ... it's not that... erm.... I see what you mean.

  • Gave me nightmares - Gloucester is a total dump full of chavs and chavettes!

  • Gloucester is rough, I agree, but not all of it is. Matson is the worst!

  • This video is Gloucester England...There is also a Gloucester , Massachusetts USA..

  • i live in gloucester now and me and my mates all say its a shithole. Too bad it's become unrecognisable and almost unattractive but at least there's history there.

  • Interesting video, well before my time and most of it is pedestrianized now so I hard recognizes it. The front Façades are listed I think is the reason for keeping them. They did this with the liquid nightclub too when GL1 was built.

  • People are too hard on Gloucester. I was born in Gloucester and moaned about it all the time until I moved to the North of England....

Believe me, Gloucester is luxury compared to some of the real shotholes up here. Trust me.

  • yep I visited Burnley... man... Gloucester ain't that bad.

  • Lol Burnley is where I am now

  • nice one!-I lived there for 15yrs!....and it was and is a shithole!

  • I'm a Gloucester boy living in L.A. You think Gloucester is a shit hole. At least you don't live in gun world

  • people seem more happy and peacefull then

  • I love Gloucester.

Great history and set in a superb area.

  • Gloucester is lacking in many ways, but it's not a bad city - the docks and cathedral are great places.

My ears are bleeding after the music in the video though...

  • LOL, thirty years on and it looks fuck all different apart from the pissing docks.

Give it another 20years and all of Gloucester will resemble barton/tredworth.

So, where has all the tax money gone then? so much for investment.

The same is true for all of the UK, we are being conned.

  • They spent it all on Bristol mate!

  • Awesome music! I used to live in Gloucester.

  • Gloucester Is A Bag Of Bollox, The Sooner I Move Out Of This Boring Shithole The Better!

  • i live in gloucester!

  • so do i :)

  • Its a shithole isn't it

  • thanks for reminding me why i live in manchester now

and gloucester docks was better before the updated them

  • Gloucester is now a s**t pit. Too many foreigners and single parent families.

  • I moved to Gloucester from Pontypridd about three years ago and have to say Gloucester has far more to offer than Pontypridd. The docks are stunning, the people in town are usually nice and I pay less on my council tax here than back home.

So Gloucester is cool with me. :)

  • i live in gloucester

  • Excuse me, but when a family only has one parent its because the other one has either walked out on them or died. So the single mothers and fathers bringing up their children on their own don't really have much choice whether they're single parent families or not.

  • i disagree some old slappers deliberatly get pregnant by any tom dick or harry so they can sponge of the state for the rest of their lives and the state means the british tax payer

  • Yes, I do agree with you there, as I have actually had the misfortune to meet a couple of people like that and it makes me feel sick to my stomach. But I just didn't want all single mothers to be tarred wth the same brush, especially Gloucester.

  • @polskich Definatley they should get fuck all, serve them right for being slags.

  • Aww man brought back some memories. Even though I was brought up in the early 80's I remember how the city centre used to look, I miss the old days.

  • wow, this is truely amaizing, its videos like this i am very fond of, as a person of 20, i live in gloucester and have lived here for bout 11-12 years only, but i love how it has become what it is over time

thank you for this piece of history :)
