  • 0:43 No. the most natural environment possible would be were you fucking got them from. And is not natural. A research center is not 'natural. I'm not animal rights extremist, but even I don't think making a giant room with a bunch of fake grown trees and vines is gonna cut it as "Natural". Just sayin'...

  • To be fair, most people don't have conditions to keep bats as pets. Sure, I suppose flying foxes can work as pets, but what about species that need aerial insects to eat?

  • Wanna have a bat? don't! Great video...really... :/

  • If U wanna have a bat, don't do it, and pay for the Zoo...

  • fuck this lady i can care for the bat myself!

  • Stuffed animals make good pets.........LIE!

  • This gave me no good info on keeping a bat as a pet. The title is misleading as hell. Like watching a video that is called, STEAK; Cooking and eating steak as food. And it's just some vegetarian saying how you shouldn't eat steak because humans were not made to eat animals.

  • "Humans aren't made for working all day, they need lots of space, have to breed regularly with others of their species, need to be given freedom to live, a space of their own" bla bla - sorry but I find these things so hypocritical when even mankind no longer lives the way it did naturally. Same for many pets - dogs kept in apartments for example. Most are perfectly happy because it's all they've known. Not to say you should have bats as pets, but her arguments are weak.

  • @redavatar I agree, the nature fallacy is logically invalid. What is "natural" is not always best. It's true though that most wild animals, because of their instinctive habits, do not make good pets, and many of them live shorter lives in captivity than in the wild, especially social animals. Maybe they would be if domesticated over generations, but that seems like a sad process.I personally find it cruel to keep animals that fly in cages, even if they have room to swoop around some.

  • "stuffed animals make some pretty good pets sometimes too."

so... i have a blue pet hedgehog named sonic?

  • i went from music, to toilets clogging, to a bat trying to get outta a toilet, to bats as pets...youtube does this to me alot..

  • @BaNaNaMuSh270 Haha, I went from Howl's moving castle theme to this...

  • @BaNaNaMuSh270 I see we walk the same path...

  • Qait your telling me to buy a cage and put a stuffed bat in it and it will make a good pet??? I did not know that.

  • All pets are wild animals (regardless of how you dress them). Please someone breed a bat for the home! p.s., for a sec, when she said stuffed animals I thought she meant the dead, stuffed ones :o/

  • I'm still getting a darn bat!!! : /

  • Yeah stuffed animals great

  • I just don't understand, domestic cat's and dog's were wild animals to before we took them in and make them domestic, there are many many animals we have taken in as pets and found out they make good pets, that list is endless, all animals start out in the wild and some are made pets, and lot's can be domesticated, instead of judging others for having a wild pet look at your pets, find out where there roots came from and think about it.

  • @CCCrrrTTT exactly. And not too many people make a fuss (even if they should/shouldn't) about taking wild fish and keeping them as pets. I'm talking everything from snakeheads and lionfish to angelfish and everything in between

  • Fruit bats make good pets U R WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree bats r not pets

  • Dogs were wild animals. Cats were wild. Sugar Gliders were wild animals.

I thought we learned to tame animals?

  • @deathscreton dogs and cats have taken centuries to domesticate, leave wild animals in the wild

  • Bats are wild animals that are pest control. They don't cuddle. They aren't pets.

  • @Nagneto So are rats, mices, and squirrles and yet....

  • fruit bats are awsome pets lady u r wrong

  • @celestekittie *sigh* moron

  • Bats don't usually make audible noises. And it's true that bats can contact rabies but if it's flying around then it's most likely very healthy, a bat with rabies can't fly. If there is a bat in the house he is trying to find a way out because they can become dehydrated very quickly. They are more scared of you than you are of them. Open a window and shut the door to the other part of the house and he will find his way out... if indeed there is a bat in your room.

  • fine, let them live outside, you can still call them your pet :)

  • democrat, liberal short hair I voted for oboma cause of his skin color pay for my health ins. OWS loser cant make it in the real world

  • This video didn't help at all.... Bats can be kept as pets, typically Fruit Bats or Flying Foxes; they don't eat meat.

  • @shiilovesyuu that's a bad idea! they die very young when selfish people keep them as pets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @shiilovesyuu seriously idiot?? you have a caged -in area the size of a football field to comfortable house a fruit bat so that he can fly?? Or would you just keep it in a bird cage to spend it entire life hanging upside down, unable to fly and spread his wings and live the life he was born to?? Are you that selfish??

  • @jonnsgirl (couldn't find your response so i'll respond to this) Who says they don't make good pets? I have seen great examples of those creatures becoming good pets. And at least in my opinion of course beating an animal is wrong, don't simply input one label towards all those you have a disagreement. Besides animals like dogs were first domesticated for the purposes of protection, hunting, and war, so making it a pet for other selfish reasons is nothing new. Don't be an incompetent brute. >; P

  • @narutofan9tail Just because you CAN make a pet out of an animal doesn't mean you SHOULD. Encouraging the trade in wild exotic animals is WRONG, putting an animal in a cage is WRONG. Bats are meant to be in the wild, to fly. It's like putting a bird in a cage, disgusting, an animal that is meant to fly should be able to fly. It would be like someone confining you to a space the size of a twin bed for the rest of your life, sounds like a great life huh?

  • @jonnsgirl Well actually sounds comfy I only have a single XP&besides this video is encouraging putting bats on display in a zoo rather than the wild so uh just a little reality check. Besides most of these animals are happy being cared for, and have better chances for longevity when in the care of a human(just so I know do you support animal life, or simply the preservation of the isolation of wild life?)Furthermore humans are the greatest pets of all,& if we could still have em life be easier

  • @narutofan9tail ...are you brain damaged?

  • @jonnsgirl No just mixing reality with humor&by the sudden lack of words in your reply Im guessing that Im doing a damn good job =p.Also Zoos put animals in cages, humans put them in their homes and by their side(well good ones anyways). If treated well&raised properly a raven would fly out by its self every now and then but stil come back to the nest that is your home. Many birds already know how to unlock their cages on their own,but simply dont(most times). If u feel strong bout it go do somethin

  • @jonnsgirl Not at all, although it would be amazing to see a victim of brain damage run at half the capacity I am. Shame you seem to have run out of words on your side, well argument was fun while it lasted. Hope to have another random debate with ya sometime in the future, but for now this one seems to have dulled ; p

  • they are cute. @shandimandy...i saw something like that too im going to try to find it im sure u can google it. we have quite a few bats around here i think they like my fruit trees.

  • Yeah Lady its ok for a bat to be at a zoo where everyone is a stranger but someone wants to take care of one and actually spend time with it thats a problem? I wouldn't own a bat but im sick of people like this total hypocrisy.

  • @Kikode2005 keeping a bat as a pet can shorten its life expectancy by 24 years!

  • @Kikode2005 the people who care for bats in zoos are trained experts and the facilities are made to mimic the bat's natural envirinment. Pretty sure a member of the general public doesn't have that expertise or the funds to build a flight cage for a bat...

  • ok so i saw on a show once that u can make "houses" for bats kinda like a birdhouse so they can kinda hang out around ur house n u can watch them but they can still be free. anyway, anyone know how to make one or where i can go to learn how? we used to see a few around some nice nights but not so much anymore. kinda hopin some will come back n bunk up with us if we give em a place to sleep lol.

  • @ShandiMandy they sell kits on Amazon. I have one I haven't put up yet because I missed the season. If you put it up when they're looking for a place to nest in your area they tend to do better. I thought this was going to suggest something like that. Don't keep it as a pet, but attract them. In FL, when there's not a rabies problem, we sort of like having them around to keep the mosquito population under control.

  • @Adom Thanks! Yea in the summer when we used to see em it was mostly i guess cause we had the fire lit roastin stuff and therefor attracted moths and other bugs and so also sometimes attracted bats. we dont have many fires anymore so less reason for them to come around i guess. too bad :(

  • @ShandiMandy you can find them here batworld batconservation

  • Comment removed

  • bats need free space to fly in? ya right, what about canaries and parakeets? they need free space so that theory doesnt sound correct to me and play with stuffed animals as pets? thats a bit scary seeing someone talk to an object as if it was real

  • i have a bat as a pet hes flying in my home at night he has 9 kids and hes 14.hes very smart when i give him food

  • @1234kalob you are selfish!

  • Wild animals should not be kept as pets. bla bla bla Just think if no one kept the first wolf as a pet we would never have dogs or the first african wildcat we would not have fluffy our cat. bla bla bla

  • @fuzzypaws17 what's your point...? just because it was done centuries ago means we should do it now...? great logic...

  • @jonnsgirl I think bats would make a lousy pet but there are many wild animals that make great pets... if I was you I would worry more about people who have kids that never should have had them than a person who has a pet squirrel...

  • why would anybody want one of these disgusting things as pets?????

  • @choirboyfromhell1 Bats groom more than you, most people think bats are filthy creatures, but bats are cleaner than cats.

  • @choirboyfromhell1 some people think they're cute

  • @choirboyfromhell1 they aren't disgusting the serve a purpose. keeping dangerouse bugs numbers in check, especially ones that spread malaria ect.

  • ya right

  • i had once kept a baby bat at home ... i really feels sorry about it . I made it die ! i'm sorry i feels sad. ....ToT....

  • I don't technically have a bat as a pet. But I do have a few bats that hang out outside my window that like let me hold them and stuff. They come back every year and I feed them extra bugs and stuff. But they don't stay inside and they still are wild

  • if bats arent pets then why the hell are boas and tarantulas pets?

  • @amberlight27510 THANK YOU!!!!

  • @amberlight27510 uuhhmm...because people are selfish...

  • @deadballo Domesticated (past tense) meaning they are inherently wild. Not that I really care either way, just saying. ;-)

  • @EnigmaV8

Meaning an animal which is not wild, tense being irrelevant.

Also, any pet which has been in captivity from birth can hardly be considered wild unless you're referring to its personality.

  • fuck the zoo...STUFFED animales as a pet damnn what will people say when they see your walking your stuffed animal and youl have to have to be pationt till it learns its name...

  • stuffed animals are pretty good pets....what the fuck lady

  • what's with all of you people? Yeah it's true our pets were originally wild but that doesn't mean you should go out and grab a bat from a tree and automatically keep it as a pet.

  • F U

  • um... aren't ALL animals inherently wild animals?!!

  • u men like a furby

  • aha just out of spite im going to raise an army of bats and become a super villain

  • u suck. yep. u do

  • "bats are wild animals and wild animals should not be kept as pets"...werent dogs and cats wild before people started domesticating them? or ferrets? rats and gerbils? they are all wild animals.

i understand what she means, but come on....lil common sense

  • No Fuck you I'm getting a bat

  • @xISiLLeNTIx i lolled when i read that

  • @xISiLLeNTIx Hell yeah! i got one last week :D

  • @xISiLLeNTIx YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol my speakers were really low and i thought she said "hello im docter doo-little"

  • lolololol i come back a month later and im the top comment omggggg

  • @BORINGGULL omggg lololol no you wont be lolololol

  • @MicroMouse007 i already was lololol

  • Most of the animals kept today came from the wild. Bats can be bred in captivity therefore the captive bred babies are NOT considered as wild but domestic animals.

  • That room you have those bats in looks pretty small. And I see plastic fluorescent light covers in their "natural habitat" all the time. A bit hypocritical aren't we?

  • my parrot sleeps like that xD does anyone know why?

  • @OperationTubeYou cuz ur parrot seen bats sleeping like that be4 so now he copys them and now he sleeps like that ,,, get him a bird friend that dosnt sleep like a bat and ur parriot wwill copy how he sleeps.......lol

  • @showlifemang111 my parrot has never seen bats O.o andi wish i could get him another parrot, but unfortunally he doesnt accept anyone else.

  • @OperationTubeYou now i think i got a bat bit on my arm what shout i do

  • Fuck you. I'm getting one as a pet.

  • plus, i have handeled many bats before. they allways get stuck in my garage, and i have to get them out. i have much experience with bats.

  • after watching this video, i'm going to get a pet bat.

  • how come people say dont have like a bat as a pet because its "wild" but still we got dogs and cats and such?

Does that mean I can keep a wolf as a pet as a wolf is where dog came from and therefor a "dog"?? :D

I would say every animal can be tamed just like dogs...

  • @MrFasho123 lol you took my words

  • dogs and cats where wild.

  • @rex669 dogs and cats were domesticated thousands of years ago. A long time to get the "wild" out of them

  • @iamlost2 So now we need to domesticate bats sharks lions and other shit so we can have cool pets

  • @rex669 No, not at all. I wasn't responding to you. And the key word in my response was "CERTAIN" wild animals. Read more, it helps. Thanks

  • @rex669 Follow the comments. See the reply to ID. I don't know which comment you have issue with. I never even hinted that it was OK to tame lions, sharks, etc.

  • @iamlost2 i have a pet alligator that i walk on a leash dowtown and people come and pet him somtimes

  • @showlifemang111 Cool.

  • That video made me sad,

because of her negative way of telling me I'll never have a bat as a pet.

  • I have over a hundred bats as pets over my marijuana garden in Sacramento. They do great and have lots of food and a large area to fly.Never had a problem...

  • ur so fuckin ugly

  • Yeah, bats shouldn't be pets. Just like those vicious wild animals with teeth that can tear chunks of flesh away with ease. Oh right yeah, we domesticated wild dogs. I'm pretty sure you can domesticate a bat just as well, I've seen it done.

  • @AzureSN dogs don't fly, silly.

  • @iamlost2 Pidgeons, Hawks, Owls and Parrots do though :3

  • @AzureSN ah. ;p

  • My pet stuffed animal ran away.

  • so...

i was like oh my god.

    and josh said, okayyyyyyyy.

and my nails are like sooooooo yesterday.

seriously bitch you sound like a blonde high school cheerleader.

    shut the fuck up...

  • 0:50 she's high.

  • Do you think she lives in a house of stuffed animals that she talks to?

  • Well that was helpful...

  • Bats should be domesticated. Thousands of years ago a caveman kept a wolf and another caveman said you cant keep that! it might bite you! and now we have dogs and people fucking love them.

  • @Sonofsweetness there was an article in national geographic about a fox farm in russia. It was an experiment to breed human friendliness into them. In 2 years they had foxes that acted like pets and beg for attention. In 20 years their appearance just exploded. They got spotted coats, floppy ears, shorter tails, and their tails would curl up and wag when they saw people.

  • @iamnotglenn I saw that. It takes a few generations to domesticate CERTAIN wild animals.

  • this lady makes me want to... break something

  • Shut up lady.

  • Make a bat box. They're still wild, but they live at your house.

  • fuck you

  • i would just find a injured one and help him get better and hopefully he'l come and visit......... Doubt it though

  • what a bigot! she must be republican.

  • stuffed animals make pretty good pets too

  • Umm what about dogs and cats that arent in their natural habitat? and that we dont allow to reproduce.... should we not have them as pets either miss jane goodall?

  • /watch?v=Y-MVAxZQXmM&feature=feedlik

    /watch?v=Y-MVAxZQXmM&feature=feedlik

    /watch?v=Y-MVAxZQXmM&feature=feedlik

  • Look, I could make a thousand arguments on why you could keep a bat as a pet, but I insist on not being rude. Plus, that is more than 500 characters.

  • uhhh while we're at it, shouldn't we just go on ahead and bulldoze all civilization and start hunting our own food.

  • wow she is arrogant as all hell

  • F*** you lady if I want a bat I'll keep it as a pet

  • durrr let's whack people looking for advice around with an artificial distinction between "wild" and other animals invented by americans. i have to take care of a baby bat, shelter wouldn't take him and he's been doing fine for several weeks now. it's very hard to find a good guide on the internet for taking care of bats that isn't just alarmist, normative nonsense like this video though.

  • I've seen the bats at the Omaha zoo. Their cage is the inside of a house. Confused.

  • @vetwannabe8ball I live in Omaha as well. Yes at the Henry Doorly Zoo, there is a large large swampy house filled with tamed gators, racoons, and bats.

  • because stuffed animals are way better than the actual things... how pathetic

  • It's cus they herpes or sumthin.

  • oh yae a stuffed animal bat!!!!...wtf?

  • This is the dumbest video I have ever seen.

  • i saw a bat in the zoo. it was in a bird cage, but i dont think that would be the most natural place for the bat to be

  • Clearly this woman has never met Batman.

  • "Bats are wild animals."

Looks like she says doctor before her name so people don't automatically write her off as a moron. Conveying her thoughts in English is not her strong suit. Animals in their native habitat are "wild animals." Domestically born animals are not. Simply put, bats make poor pets because of their requirements to maintain and keep.

  • @xLightFilmsx

    idiot.

  • @IlovelouisDTV Ironic.

  • Stuffed animals make good pets?

What a batshit thing to say. ;P

  • Get a sugar glider instead. They are just as cool and are great with people. And they can glide!

  • Very informative but did not feel connected in spirit. Good Job.

  • Lame!

  • haha like says it all in the bitchiest way possible, like shes a know it all talking to some elementary students who dont have a clue what shes on about XD Yeah they shouldnt be kept as pets, but you dont have to get all ugly about it o_O

  • She acts so full of herself and the way she makes faces and talks comes off as really condescending. Between the way she speaks and the facial expressions scream smug contemptuous individual. Her other videos seem the same. She might be a really nice person but she sure doesn't come off as such

  • A bat can kill almost 2000 mosquitos a day, bat boxes can be placed on top of a house wall to give em a home where they can rest.

  • STFU OLD BITCH> I CAN HAVE A BAT IF I WANT

  • get a green laser,.. they play with them like cats! Im playing with wild bats with my laser right now!

  • Wowwow! Not only can you play green lasergames with wild flying bats, you can do all of this while typing a youtube comment! A-mazing.

PS never mind the sarcasm i'm still going to try the green laser out on a bat some day, tx 4 the tip.

  • Booooo...

    Bats are awesome.

    I've caught two, before :)

  • Comment removed

  • Dogs, cats, cows and small birds are wild animals too. I don't understand....

  • you can keep bats as pets.

  • so the reasons for not keeping a bat as a pet is that they're wild animals and they won't have their natural habitat, food or room to live like they do naturally in the wild. kinda lame reasons since one can make the same argument about any bird including the popular parrots and parakeets which are in fact still not domesticated. keeping a *wild* anything is probably not a good idea but of course they failed to mention it, but it was uploaded by "ehow" so what do you expect?

  • is this video some sort of joke?

  • hahahha"Stuffed animals make pretty good pets" yeaaaaaaahhhh, okay, my imaginary friend sheldon thinks thats a lovly idea, cuz having an imaginary friend is just as good as having a real friend. please pick a better alernative because people give me and sheldon ward looks when we take my stuffed bat wally to the park. hahahahahahahhaaha

  • awwwwwwwwwwwwwwz ;DD♥

  • I have a baby brown bat, video on my channel if ya want to see, and he is doing great in captivity.he is extremely active , has doubled in size just in the 10 days i have had him.he loves to be close to me and my wife and will fuss if i put him down.he has a large room to fly in if he wants but during the day he spends most of his time hiding in a crown royal bag. he is too young to eat insects yet so i am feeding him warmed goats milk and he loves it. good pet, dont care what the (pro) says.

  • I like their trousers

  • Naturally, eHow will say Bats make bad pets. For those who don't give a hoot and are getting one anyways, here's the quick-facts:

1: Large Fruit Bats are the best starter choice, especially Flying Foxes.

2: All Bats bite, often drawing blood most times.

3: All Bats have dormant Rabies, so you and the Bat must get vaccinations.

4: All Bats stink horrifically, need humidity, flying room, and other bats (3-7 is good)

5: Most species are endangered, and most places ban ownership, so check locally!

  • have a little fun with life, even humans started out in the wild

  • @serena2190

I will just copy and paste what I wrote to someone else because I CBA to write it again:

and of course, humans are exactly the same as bats...

dude, how can you even hold that argument, its like saying "Because I can squash a small insect with my finger I can squash an elephant between my fingers because they are both animals"

    common, use your brain
