  • Does anyone know if you can still use the interface without a monitor? Is it possible?

  • david can you recomend me an interfac to record mainly guitar but also vocals maybe...

    beetwen 150 and 300 $?

i only need that? for record i have cubase and also guitar rig?

how can i use mi amp for record? only trough a mic ? my amp has an output for recording . that can go to the interfac?

  • to di-fic-alt man!

  • Yeah man technology is getting better and something should be updated to work better. It is quite easier to go and spend thousands of dollars in recording studio than sit at home, learn production shit and download updates so that you can from day you got it, on, make awesome recordings for free.

And amp simulators are blasting hardware amps pretty much so...using an amp and a cabinet will possible make sound worse than if staying completely in digital domain.

  • Hey David

    Thanks for all your help

I love your videos Rock N Doode

  • warning : he talks about(him self) going to a recording studio for the first 3 minutes..than babbles on for 3 more minutes . shows his toneport, for a couple more minutes finally starts talking sofware at...the 8 minute point (abelton lite)...than finishes with yet more about himself and protools

  • BWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! @2:59 YOU SAID I DOO DOO. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

BUT YOUR ABSOLUTELY CORRECT ON EVERYTHING YOU STATED IN THIS CLIP.

    DOO DOO, HAHAHA

  • Hi David , I know that this "Guitar learning software computer interface guitar lesson" was recorded in June 2008 . So here is my question . I am buying a new PC with Windows 7 , a quad processor . I am looking to record my guitar and voice for you tube and ALSO to improve my playing and riffs . Can you give me any ideas on how to input my guitar and mike as well as software to run on Windows 7 - 64 Bit Home Version . PS I am far from a professional . Jerry

  • lets see if he can explain things in a simplistic way.. i wait with baited breath....man your talking too much

  • hi i am pretty useless when it comes to these things, but i was wondering if because i have a Boss Me70 pedal and a Line 6 spider 4 30 watt amp and when i play just through the boss me70 with out the amp and with headphones, thats the exact tone i want but when i play through the amp as well it sounds a little different like not as tone perfect. so would i need to get one of these recording devices, barring in mind i would record from the pedal alone. the pedal has a guitar output...

  • that the standard guitar cable fits in, would that go to the recording device or can it just go straight into a pc, so i wont have to buy a recording device? i not really sure if you can record straight in to a pc? and also because the sound is not exactly the same through my amp with the pedal than without the amp is it i would need a better quality amp? sorry about the length of message

  • hey david i would like to ask you a question:

what plugin do you recomend for recording with the ux2?

pod farm is not good i want a good plugin with aalot of effects where can i get one of those

    ??

  • rock on!

  • Like it...

thanks also to tappem/nightzone for posting the comment about those free guides.

Just downloaded them and very happy with all the lessons, guides and free software!

Anyone else want the guides and software can look for videos uploaded by:

    defonlooker

details are in the video, just sharing as well.

  • So which monitor speakers do you recommend?

  • So if I just want to record some guitars licks on my computer what recording interface do you recommend for like under 200 dollars?

  • na man

    thats not true

if you get the right kind of hardware you can great sound

all you need is protools and an eleven rack and your set to record guitars!!

  • 3:00 DOO DOO LAWL

  • 2:38 wtf was that

  • can this thing work with garageband?

  • Nice interface...

  • What exactly is an interface? Im pretty new to recording.

  • Comment removed

  • its a module with effects and guitar/mic inputs, and a plug to plug into ur computer, then u can record :)

  • do you necessarily need a sound interface or can you just buy an adaptor from the guitar's jack to the ones the computer uses??

  • You can do that although its pretty poor quality. I used to use it when i was jiust recording samples although preamps and interfaces make the quality so much better

  • Nice option if your that lucky I guess.

  • is logic good for recording???

  • These days...room treatment is the major cost factor with home recording. Otherwise, you don't need super expensive equipment to get a great sound.

  • 5 min in before he gets to the point

  • Probably most those reasons for using a studio sound spurious... just how good do you have to sound, Beatles? Zep? Come on, it can only ever sound so good. Just the simple psychological effect of being in a studio is reason enough.

  • Couldn't find this on the site..

  • so hopefully i don't sound like an idiot but can you use that to record vocals?

  • XLR's are for mic's.

  • Yes))))

  • dude that helped alot. thnx

  • you can download NI Guitar Rig 3 as a bit torrent for free....

  • where?

  • masterswordofficial - google lepou plugins and grab Hybrit, and SoloC they are marshall and soldano FREE plugins

you will need a cabinet plugin too that so google impulse response

this way you dont need to steal a commercial program and in fact you will end up sounding better than guitar rig trust me!

  • Interesting info mate. I am GR3 user and fairly happy with it. Are you saying there is freeware out there that is better? Also, do you use a DI box to record into your interface when using your amp sims?

  • ya if you just search free recording software there are some pretty good programs that you can download in under 10 mins

  • Pod X3 is the best you'll ever get although it's pricy.

  • Guitar Rig 3 is the thing!

  • I'm trying out Audacity and using a small mic

instead of my laptop mic.I figure if I can do

a good recording with a free recording program

then I'll buy a better program along with an

interface. Thanks David and Tim for the video! Carlos Martinez SF,CA

  • what are some good speakers that i can use to get a good beefy tone? or can i just hook my amp cab up to my computer somehow?

anyone who knows please can you help?

  • i would recommend StudioDock 3i USB Studio Monitors with Built-in iPod Dock. might be a bit more expensive than u want tho

  • PC: Audacity with VST plugin download.

    (Freeware)

    MAC: Garageband!

    ($80 Apple Store)

Look around Youtube for user videos.

  • I was thinking of getting a orange crush 10 an hooking it up like this:

    guitar----amp(using the headphone out)----computer(amplitube 2)

will this work, this wont fry anything right?

    OR

just get a line 6 toneport?

    need your advice DT!

  • can anyone tell me the difference between the gold bundle gearbox and the toneport ux2? which one is more worth it? is it like a difference between software, because i know the hardware is different but i mean besides the 30 dollar difference whats the big difference?

  • nice ...this is something i wanted to see ..computer recording and mixing stuff...like those guys who play all instruments and make cool videos

  • DT

i watch all your videos but can you help me by giving me advice on what to practice and for how long to practice each day?

  • audacity is a good FREEWARE for recording...

  • Even better than that, audacity is not only free but OPEN SOURCE software.

  • Fast Track Pro by M-Audio is very similar and it also comes with Ableton.

  • Thx...After I watched this vid I went my Guitar store and bought this thing "Toneport UX2"...Its great...great effects, good clean and distortion sounds...You can even make your electric guitar sounds like an acoustic guitar with this thing...Really good...and now I can just throw my amp out of the window..haha:))THX again for this video!

  • When we will see part 2? =(

  • Hi parts 2 and 3 are on the full on site in the guitars and gear section at next level guitar dotcom

    rock on!

    DT

  • @rockongoodpeople Would you recommend the Behringer interface ?

Also ,is it a good idea to plug your amp on the pc in order to get a good tone ?

  • what about a tascam recorder ?

  • hey david i was wondering if isb guitar tutor one is a good software to learn how to play guitar from

  • hey david,

is it realy worth the money to buy a line 6 tone port? At the moment i just record with my camera

but would i get better quality if i record straight to my computer?

  • well if u have a really good camera and a really good setup, u might be better off without it. but the toneport is really good for the money.

  • hey david i was wondering do you need a sound card to operate the line 6 toneport in the video you showed

  • I think if you have a fairly decent computer then you should be all set - no special sound card needed.

    rock on!

    DT

  • hey David, i was curious if you have ever heard of a software titled "Session" from M-audio? its 50$ and i was curious to know if u thought it would be worth that cash? i was also wondering if u think it would work good? thanks alot!

  • Hi - have not heard of session so I really cant comment - however I am familiar with M-audio and they are a very good company that makes some killer products

    rock on!

    DT

  • Hey David, I was looking through an AMS catalog and I saw some Behringer stompboxes for $30. What is the difference between these and the $100 ones sold by Boss, Digitech, etc?

  • Hard to say without listening to each one individually and listening if that is the desired effect that you are looking for. General rule to keep in mind - you get what you pay for. Take care and rock on!

    DT

  • Man you guys just keep coming up with such good lessons. I was just gonna ask about home recording and bam! before I can get the email away, you've answered my question. Keep up the good work guys

  • kk thanx

  • im getting a peavey valveking 212 i need to know if thats a good size amp for playing for 7 years

  • Personally I have not played through the alve king but I have heard from many players that it is a very cool amp. Best of luck

    -DT

  • Hey man. I think the Valveking 212 is an amazing amp! I have B-52 AT-212 which I prefer a little over that but it is also more expensive. For the price and the features that the VK212 gives you though it's amazing. I was actually considering getting one. I kind of still would like to have one actually. But go try it out first before buying, and see if you like it. I think you will!

  • TONEPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i use audacity for all my home recording. its free and it has all the basic editing tools. it's kinda static-ish, but i think that might be my mic's fault, who knows.

  • I've got a BOSS 600 Please help me learn how to use it!!

  • this is a vry good option for recording.

I use a PODxt LIVE and it works great ^^

then I use cubase SX3 with some VST's like hypersonic and artistdrums.

  • is the software pretty easy to use for a beginner at recording, if not is their like a manual that will show you how to operate it

  • great to see recording stuff.

i bought the line 6 spider jam amp.

it records , loops, and has a bunch of backing tracks. the recordings limited ,but its still really fun.great for practicing in right key.

  • I have the UX1 and I really recommend it

  • what are the amp and cabinets used in it?

  • WOO!!!^_^

  • my friend gave me cakewalk he use in the studfio but i don't under stand it

  • i use garageband on my mac....it's awesome

  • the toneport ux1 is cool and the ux2 is like 130$ new on musicians friend its a great tool for any guitar head

  • But the big question is...

Does it work without the hat Dave?

For monitors I use Yamaha MSP5's. Excellent quality and reasonable price at $250 a piece.

  • so this is basically like the pod xt except more focused around computers and not designed to plug into an amp. rite?

  • smthing like that, toneports dont have effects: PODs have effects inside, when you use toneport you got effects in you computer, you can use them while recording or after recording.

with PODs you got effects inside you can plug it on almost any recording software and get 'your' sound

  • yes, that is correct

    best of luck

    -DT

  • i have a martin dm and was wondering what pickup i would need plus amp ..to get a great sound out of it ?..a few suggestions wpuld be nice ..thanks from the uk ..rock on

  • srry said it wrong :p

  • Basically, classified ads online for any city. Free to post ads.

  • it's like u read my mind, DT. Whenever I have a question scratchin my head thinkin, bam! there you go with a new vid about it already. u guys really rock, man. thx, David Taub; thx, Tim Gilberg. rock on!

  • You have nice eyes :)

Cool video, very helpful, I've got some Coursework for music to hand in soon and this was great help.

  • Very helpull. I'm going to be starting adding to recording to my computer.

  • i have a toneport, I HIGHLY reccomend it!

  • first comment

  • no, you are not

  • Yeah I was considering getting that one and I probably would have done if I had seen this vid first. I ended up getting the tascam US-144 which seems pretty similar feature wise so I've got no complaints :)

  • you are the fourth comment.....
