  • You can also use Splitstuff (dot) com to organize a virtual, micro-coop. Invite friends and neighbors to band together to buy goods in bulk to get them at wholesale prices directly from the supplier and split the cost among the group!

  • I remember being at the farmers market when I was about 10 years old. At that time a full bushel basket of Tomatoes cost $4.00. My have times changed.

  • @lovedbyanimals I can still get deals like that sometimes. I got a huge flat or tomatoes for $4 at the farmers market one day. They weren't organic, but for like 10 lbs or beautiful, ripe tomatoes, I wasn't picky. I dried them and still have some in a jar in my fridge. The co-op was amazing. I no longer live there but it is now run by a great team of organizers and volunteers and has over 1000 members. Maybe you can start one in your city. Thanks for watching.

  • Alexis I am lucky in that I don't need to start a co-op here. To the east of me there are two Farm produce stores that pick the produce that morning and sell it during the day. The one Farm is right next to the highway and you can see the crops growing as you drive past. Even though it is not organic you can't get produce much fresher. Past that are fruit orchards and farms where you can get mega deals when the produce is starting to get a bit ripe.

  • @lovedbyanimals That's wonderful! I have been pretty lucky here too. Although there does exist an organic co-op catering to raw vegans (Rawfully Organic in Houston), I stopped participating and have been relying mostly on little veggie stands and the big farmer's market, which have been more affordable (although mostly not organic). It's not an ideal situation, but we do the best we can. I'm so glad you are able to obtain good, affordable produce as well.

  • @thrivesurvive if you've ever seen the dark rich soil in upper Michigan where they grow lettuce you would swear the vegetables they grow up there is even better than the organic vegetables you buy in stores.

  • @lovedbyanimals I'm sure it's awesome, provided they aren't using pesticides to kill the micro-bacteria

  • Wow!!! You are in Redlands! I just came across your video. I live less than a half hour away. I am inspired to be a part of this!

  • Awesome! Come check us out! we have a photo album on the web site with pictures of our weekly produce to give you an idea of how it varies and what you can expect. Now that' it's warming up, it will only get better.

  • WOW, that IS SOOO COOL, 20$ is an absolute JOKE for the amount of food. For that much organic food, it would cost me 70$ CAD.

  • I know!! Even here, if I were to buy this in the super market (first of all the quality would be terrible), it would cost at least $60. At LEAST!

  • I have always been a raw organic vegan. I am 6 foot 6 and eat a lot. There is enough food to sustain me for 4 days there. That would cost me 5$ a day + an extra 5$ for my super foods and oils and krill oils. Just INSANE!

I would basically pay 40$ and get 2 baskets if this service was offered to me.

  • Maybe you can find a supplier in your area and start your own co-op. people just don't know what they're missing. If you go to my co-op site, you can see how I set it up, and you will see pictures of produce from every week we have done it. I would never be able to buy organic produce without the co-op, and because I organize it, when there is produce left over that cannot be divided, I get the surplus.

  • WOW!!! I want to live there and be part of your co op!! That assortment for the price is phenomenal! WOW!!

    Love,

    Wendi

    XOXOXO

p.s. 5*s means five stars for your rating. ;-)

  • oh thank you. I thought they may have meant something to do with the 5 a day recommended intake of veggies or something. :)YOu can create a co-op easily if you have access to wholesale close to where you live. If you visit my co-op website on meetup, you can read the rules, and look in the photo album for a picture of each week's produce. I am looking forward to the warm months when produce will be more varied and less expensive. I can't wait for juicy fruit and berries!

  • great 5*s

  • what does 5's mean, please?

  • It means i gave you a 5 "star" rating . . .

keep up the good work :)

  • thank you :)
