I suppose that Church is inactive now, being that the day is done wheres the Welsh landscape is being deforested to heat a place like that. It looked as if painted boards were installed where stained glass windows once were.
There was also a Blenheim bomber that crashed near the devils heap of stones during World War 2 on the 22nd September 1940. If you google ww2 plane crash Talywain youll find more
There are actually two large landslides and one smaller landslide on The British mountain named locally as "The slips". which according to legend is where the giant tore the rocks from.
I know the slips! Used to live quite near. I hadn't heard the giant myth, mind - it's a good one! The one I heard was from a book of local legends and ghost stories.
I live in Garndiffaith. When I was younger, my Father always used to tell me that the legend behind the devils heap of stones was that a giant lived on a nearby mountain close to "The British". He grabbed handfulls of rock and hurled them over Talywain and Garndiffaith to where the devil lived on a mountain on the opposite side of the valley, burying him under the devils heap of stones forever.
Oh dear! Sounds like the Tourist Trade is struggling in Wales. What with two Follies. A) A brand new "Ancient Castle, and B) A manned hermit grotto. Oh Dear, I think London, Paris, New York, etc. are still safe from your competition. Hmm.. how about putting a Hermit Grotto INSIDE of the Castle! I think you might really have something then! : ) hehe!
Sorry for the teasing. I hope you know it is all in good fun. I really do love you and Ollie, even if it's not obvious! : ) - Brian.
A folly is by definition a building that is just there to look interesting. Aesthetically pleasing but not useful in a practical way - a sort of giant outdoor art installation. I think the wire might be attached to floodlights so they can light it up for special events.
Whose is the wizened, crone-like finger visible around 1:37? A Celtic cave-dweller's, perchance? I'm joking, I'm sure your mother's a very nice person, unlike mine. Alright then she's a very nice person, too.
I'm planning a walking holiday to Atlantis next year - Kate Humble is a 'possible' and Griff Rhys Jones' agent said he needs the publicity, after his 'I climbed the highest mountain in Britain - oh no I didn't' TV expedition.

It looks like you're traveling in Great Britain. I happen to love that country as much as my own (Read a lot of great English novels as a kid, plus my mom was a Scottish immigrant.)
There's probably no part of your country I wouldn't enjoy seeing.
I had my first kiss ther ^_^ and a few other firsts too :P
I didn't know the wierd shell place was a hermitage though, learn something new everyday n the 'Tubes :)

At 1:18 there is a wire or something attached to the parapet wall. What is it? And what is a folly (in the architectual sense) in the first place?
As you first walked up to it, did you have the urge to bust out singing, "Hello, Folly!"? Come on, you did, didn't you? I know you. Admit it.

Just visiting my parents for a few days. Any other travel films will likely involve me taking a bus into central London (or walking).

Very Nice Elise. Did you get your ISP yet?

Oh, yes, I managed to sort it out and so far it's good. Less bandwidth and a download limit but I can add on if it turns out to be a problem!

Happy Easter, Elise! Love the video. Beats watching 'Coast'. You should do one called, simply, 'Follys'. I think you'd be brilliant on that.

The bloke who presents Coast does have better hair, though.

Not unless it was in disguise as the Folly (possible if the chameleon circuits have been mended).

Or, maybe it was the Master's TARDIS...
I was wondering where he'd got to.
