Major Dick Winters is a true American hero, and one of the finest men America has ever produced. Humble and modest, he embodies the best of what men should aspire to be. I only hope I can be 1/100th of the man he was. I am in awe of what he accomplished, and he is an inspiration in my life. God Bless you, and thank you for your service. It is a debt we can never repay. Currahee!!!
A man who served his nation and mankind .... a salute to Maj Richard Winters for the life you led Sir . You set the bar high for all veterans who follow in yours and the men you served with in the 101st Airborne Division ! Rest in Peace Sir

i have never been to FT Campbell Kentucky. does the 101st have anything posted in his honor? Plaques, buildings, living areas or roads? i sure hope so.
To hear that the world has lost such a great yet modest man, brings tears to my eyes but I also dread the day when there are no more WW2 veterans left. Rest in peace Winters, join your company of heroes that never came home.
In Jan. i read a honoring tweet from Tom Hanks that Mr. Dick Winters had died. And literally had tears in my eyes. You know.. im german and from a complete different generation. But im very thankfull there were heros like Mr. Winters in these terrible times of WW2. Thank you Mr. Winters for saving so many lives. Thank you and rest in Peace... Currahee!

As a foreigner, is good to see that, behind the crap that is written and said everyday against America, there are still people up there who share values like bravery, patriotism, sense of duty and respect for their elder heroes.
I'd say that things like that make the world admire your country more than moon landings, technology achievements or olympic medals...and of course way more than your modern warfare or Wikileaks disclosures.
Rest in peace Major Winters. You helped our country in a true time of need, and did it well. I hope you have a good time in heaven. When I heard that you had died, I read the Band of Brothers book, and watched the movies again. I think America will miss you.
Did Ross mcCall play the character of this guy in band of brothers?
EcHoquickscopez 1 month ago
@EcHoquickscopez no. Ross McCall played Joe Liebgott. Winters was played by Damian Lewis.
