  • Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this video...I've been a fan for over 40 years, too. It's about time the music world recognized what a talent she was (RR hall of Fame). We always knew.

  • this lady was a great song writer. Wow.

  • The more ugly we realize racism is, the more we allow ourselves to see the great beauty of this eternal voice.

  • If this is supposed to be pleasant, why am I scratching my ears and getting goose bumps?

  • Thank you so much ! i love all of these laura nyro uploads : )))))

  • I really don't like what Laura did with the chord changes on 'Blowin' Away' here (a great song), but I guess she'd gotten tired of playing it the same way after so many years and availed herself to 'artistic license'. Still, any footage of her is great to see.

  • Is a "Blue vs. NYT" debate needed? Obviously NYT influenced Blue but there's no way Laura would have written the undulating, arpeggiated piano work that Joni uses on "My Old Man" or "Blue"--just as there is no way Joni would have used the booming, clanging chords in Laura's "Gibsom Street" or "Captain Saint Lucifer." Not to mention that the feel of the two albums are completely different, with Blue being more confessional/personal and NYT being theatrical/observational.

  • Anyway as a fan of both women I'm really sick of the way certain fans need to compare the two and pit them against each other when they were/are master artists who produced completely different work. Laura would have never produced an album as good as Hejira, and Joni would have never produced an album as good as Eli & the 13th. Get over it.

  • @zaitesushion People actually argue about who is better? What nonsense. They were both brilliant.

  • @pretorious700 Exactly.

  • Griffinia, kiss my straight white ass

  • dumbass remark

  • Thank you so much for posting this live footage which is so rare. Laura has been my heart and soul for over 40 years. Of all the artists on my iPod, I listen to her most of all. My heart broke when she passed. As someone else said. "Thank God for you Tube!" Oh, and RRNYC1998 - you are a malaka!

  • what year was this video from??

  • @5934931 Point State Park, Pittsburgh, Pa., June 11, 1994.

  • @denknee thank you so much...and this video is so great, thank you so much for this :)

  • @RRNYC1998 Sounds like you have social issues. Good taste in music tho.

  • @RRNYC1998: race baiting homophobe asshole!

  • @RRNYC1998 , You're just jealous cause she gets that juicy black pussy every night, meanwhile you have to play with yourself

  • The Wedding Bell Blues arrangement is pure genius - what a voice

  • cant tell who is singing with laura? is tha tjoni or valerie carter ,,and are the other two clydie king and vanetta fields?

  • @mbertr1071 Hi mbertr1071. Laura had different singers at different times, but at this particular show it was Dian Sorel on the left, Diane Garisto (it appears that she is next to Laura, but that's just the angle of the camera shot) and Diane Wilson on the far right . She introduces them if you go to the "Stoned Soul Picnic/Save the Country" clip.

  • Mitchell's "Blue" vs Nyro's "New York Tendaberry"??? Who thinks which is better???

  • @johnowensjr1234 I LOVE Joni Mitchell, but I've often said that there probably would not have been a 'Blue' had there not been a 'New York Tendaberry'. But then, 'NYT' is my favourite album of all time. It may or may not be the better album, but it certainly brings me, personally, more satisfaction.

  • Thanks for responding and I'm glad to here there is another NYT enthusiast out there! I'm the same way regarding NYT but I regard it as a better album than "Blue" because of the experimental production/instrumentation AND the raw, stark songwriting of Laura Nyro

  • I love her voice. listen to laura nyro and labell sing "It's Gonna Take a Miracle"

    A must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Discovered Nyro only while checking out the free samples they offer...I thought: "Who is doing the 5th Dimension song?" Duh...

I regret - truly regret - I did not know of her until after she died. I knew her songs, yes, but not the talented artist herself.

  • She lived life on her terms. She made her money early and got out.

  • Basically this world class talent worked in obscurity. Others covered her songs, few recognized that at the age of 18 she produced 10 or so brilliant songs, and what is more remarkable, sang them even more brilliantly. Today her talent would burst upon the world regardless of record companies, but in that day the record companies ruled ...

  • Laura is a gift.

  • My God she sang with all her heart didn't she? What a gift she was.

  • Thank You for allowing me to see Ms. Nyro again, indeed a unique talent, remarkable musician, and beautiful person.May her genius live on. Hartley C.

  • I was lucky enough to see Laura at the Troubadour in LA in the 70's..I can only say that she changed my life in a ..profound way...I have never seen a singer like her since....she was a gift, and her legacy lives on...god bless you Laura Nyro, and thank you for your songs...and your incredible genius...

  • Thank you for this post. We were all blessed by an angel when Laura was with us, such a beautiful, talented women. God Bless you Laura Nyro, Rest in Peace.

  • Thank you again for preserving these precious moments with Laura.

There is very little film or videotape of her, since she rarely appeared on TV.

Here she is late in her career and still sounding enchanting.

    Boy, was she great.

  • awesome ... thank you, denknee ... I have appreciated your contribution to Yahoo group/Nyro ..

    what can I say?

    invaluable

  • Thanks for the nice words. Best to you, Paintpro...and everyone else who has left comments. It's always nice to read that my efforts are appreciated.

    Best to you....

  • thank you so much, denknee ... I join you on Nyro group, Yahoo ...

God Bless you for Laura video's ..

what can I possibly say? invaluable ... precious ...

  • what year was this?

  • Laura and her Harmonies at Point State Park, Pittsburgh, Pa., June 11, 1994.

  • ...extraordinary.

There's no "other versions" of any of her tunes that mean anything.

    They're fluff.

Her performing here with but her piano, voice and vocal

backups get these tunes across better than any "cover"

    ever will...

  • Thank you for all the vids you posted from this concert. You know how all concerts they announce.. no video..blah, blah.. What a blessing you did record these..How ironic that

it was around the time of this tour and she was diagnosed..

  • These films are so valuable THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting them. They're all great...this one brought the tears...miss her so....

  • Ditto to all, who wrote before me here. I really, really miss her and her beautiful music. It was such a special time to be growing up. She was and will always be super talent!! I love all the live posts-too bad there are so few of her. Bless her soul!

  • I could just kiss you for posting this. She is awesome and I miss her. Wonderful.

  • I hadn't heard of Laura til Elton John appeared on Elvis Costello's new show last night and talked about her influence on his music.

    Thanks for posting these..

  • I'm such a music collector and conisseur that I'm almost kicking myself for going 15 years of it without ever discovering Laura Nyro. While not on my radar of all-time greats, I have to say she is a treasure in many ways, a diamond buried in the rough that you can appreciate on a different level than so many other superstar level talents. She should've gone onto be America's answer to Joni Mitchell (more tender and less experimental though) but she lacked the desire to stick with the industry.

  • @journeythruthepast I think it would've been a tradgedy for Laura to get all weepy and James-taylor confessional. She was a top notch pianist, a good singer, and a beat poet, not a sensitive soul seeking to unburden itself through her songs. She was an ARTIST, with more than a touch of soul.

  • thank you for posting these videos! so amazing. where was this filmed, may i ask?

  • This show was shot at Point State Park, Pittsburgh, Pa., June 11, 1994. Thanks for you interest, Onacruise (cute name).

  • I grew up on Laura (I'm a 53yo musician) and I gots to tell y'all: Love it Love It LOVE IT!! It's a shame the lead singer -- lovely voice! -- didn't find her falsetto until the outs but, hey. live performances are like that. Fantastic.

  • Awesome. Love that song.

  • She' s the Greatest. Magic. She' s a dream...I feel her in my blood, I miss her.

    Thanks for posting this video.
