Push the pin 1/2" past the top of the hinge, it is even easier, and you can ensure the cap is fully tight, then tap the pin back down inside the hinge. If the door will not stay "open" put a small bend in the pin, this will create friction in the hinge, and hold the shutter in the desired position.
do you do a lot of Norman shutters? If so...what else do you not like about them?
