the vocals, just with an SM58, pop filter and i think mixcraft DAW at the time, using cubase 5 now though.

superior drummer is a VST sample library, it triggers with a midi track in cubase or your DAW. you can write/edit the midi track by hand, but I play it in with an electronic kit - midi-usb. check out the new version!

@bendtheskyau cool, well the drumming is tight as hell and superior drummer gives it a good natural sound. i wish i was a good enough drummer to actually play what i write, but i'm not. so alas i'm stuck with hours mapping out patterns hit by hit. do you mix the drum sounds in superior? i know some people will give each drum its own track, but i think i'm too lazy to figure out how to do that. haha.

haha, it's really just velocities that make it sound natural, play with those, and drag a few things slightly out of time haha. yer i used to just export the drums as one track, mixed in superior - it has gates and EQs, but now i just bus it all out to cubase channels and effects. then export cymbals, snare and bass drum/toms tracks (3 total), and mix/master those in the main thing with guitars etc.

Blakey you should work on that velocity a bit more, the double base is one of the most important things amongst metal. It's just a continues re-run of the same velocity.

i'm really interested in this from a guitarist's perspective but i'm hesitant to try it myself if it's more based for an e-drum set up to get the realistic playing out of the software. if you have any info on purely midi based recording with this program then i'd like to hear about it. thanks.

yeah absolutely, it just uses midi tracks, so you can write them yourself, in guitar pro etc, or just in cubase or your DAW, playing them in just sounds more natural, thats why I do it.

yeah, certain interfaces with midi will get no latency. but if its just drum kit to USB you will 99% of the time have it. as far as i know.

midi in. there is latency though, so you cant really play and hear superior drummer at the same time. but you can record and play back.

Hi, yeah it's basically like this.

Everything is bussed out of superior VST, coz the effects in superior are nothing compared to other plugins.

This song is hell old so I can't remember exactly. Check out some of my newer vids and see if you're interested in those (much better imo), if so drop me another comment and i'll tell you what i've EQ'd etc.

Why did you use the Native Instruments Battery 3 VST plugin? I thought Superior Drummer could get you pretty much any sound you want... or is that not so true. If you had the new Metal Foundry expansion do you think you would still use battery 3 to trigger samples.

by "any sound you want" it's really just drums or cymbals from other ezdrummer versions or expansions you may "own". so you can add or delete parts as you like, to suit you're triggering with e-drums etc.

I don't know what the metal foundry bass drum sounds like, so i'm not sure. i do like my sound though :P

I think it's primarily drums, but the program requires VST which is recording software.

The plugin IS VST, it requires a host/sequencing program, like Cubase. And it doesn't deal with recording, it emulates real drums, so no, no guitars or keys. There are plenty of good keyboard and a couple of bass and even guitar plugins out there though.

Hi, i really liked the song, nice work :) Im not a drummer or anything, im a guitarist but i like making drum beats on my comp to play with when im practicing, and i was looking at superior drummer. (Been using Battery3 inside of FL studio) ive seen a few vids and most people seem to be playing a e drum kit when using this. Can i also use this software and the samples to just program beats in? just wondering :P

yeah, absolutely. it comes with a whole set of drum beats and fills, with different timings, you set your tempo etc. but i find it much easier to make things in guitar pro, then export as midi, then import in ezdrummer.
