  • That was a smashing video. The tub was busting up without jokes. It had a shattering experience. The tub is beside itself. It needs to pull itself together. The tub was on drugs...it had a crack problem. The enamel was feeling chipper.

  • Place a wet blanket on the tub to avoid shrapnel. Wear protective eyewear.

  • whats!!! is this. it up!!! in center may frens

  • Between watching this video last night and demoing the tub this morning, I had a chance to think about how to do this. Imagine a bomb going off outside a dome shape; nothing much happens to the dome because the force is spread throughout the dome. If you put the bomb inside, the dome gets blown to pieces. The bath tub is a kind of dome shape, so you need to hit it on the inside, not on the outside.

  • @peterjgeraghty Good thought, I will try that.

  • Who'da thunk it! Beating on a cast iron tub from the outside where you get the most resistance. It's like pissing into the wind. I busted mine up in under 15 minutes by simply hitting it on the inside. It broke into around 40 pieces which I put into rubble bags and disposed of.

  • A new Olympic Event! Lucky you didn't break those new windows though!

  • Bust it from the inside out, not outside in. It's obvious.

  • I have had to remove many cast iron baths from old tenemant flats in glasgow and the easiest way is to use a small sledgehammer ( mash hammer ) and hit the inside rite in the middle between the taps, a couple of good hits and its cracked through, the rest breaks easy, right down the middle and you just carry the bath out in 2 half sections, simple

  • Thanks for the video, I was looking how to remove my old tub. I like busting thing up too.

  • thers a better way of smashing a cast iron tub.

if you hit it on the ledges first make sure you break the tub down the way.

i have done many tubs with a normal hammer also lol takes ages. but hitting down on the middle of the ledge helps.

  • stupid.

  • But effective. :)

  • I've been doing some research on replacing our old tub... this is the only part I'm not looking forward to. Thanks for the inspiration! Now to get me a sledge hammer...

  • is the reason you bust it up because the tub is so friggin heavy? Or is it just fun to bust things up?

  • Yes, we broke it up because the tub is very heavy. A cast iron tub can weigh from 300 to 400 pounds. This tub was located on the second floor so we broke it up and threw the pieces out one of the windows. Plus it is fun to bust things up. ;)

  • That tub is superman!! lol
