  • man, i can hit the last note before de F#. but i cant get IN the F#...Sad

  • 6:00 is a G

  • WOW! I've been searching for a lot of different live versions of this song just to hear the awesome F# again and again, thanks A LOT for uploading this spared me a lot of trouble XD

  • The best part is the people in the audience trying to sing along...

  • The scale around 3:00 where perfect the late once were both timbre and tonalitywise all over the place!

  • In some of the lasta ones, the "back in the day" ones... I actually sincerely think that, judging by how the first and second parts sound, it's impossible that he hits the third and therefor the f#.

And then he pulls it off and I weep a little bit for his poor throat

  • he can it a G5 in octavarium

  • @roadrunneruntd Actually in octavarium he hit a A5...chest A5!

  • @Voicecolors thats what i mean ! haha thank you :D

  • @roadrunneruntd hehe your welcome!

  • James walks like ... FUCK YEAAA

  • 2:54 - 3:07 's F# was so good it was like drinking the sound!

  • Sounds like his ears worked better back in the day...While he always seem to hit the F#, all the notes before seem to be more and more out of tune the later it's recorded. Sometimes almost 1/2 note.

  • @Dellerss I wish it were his ears, but i actually think is his throat that is getting a bit messy, although if you look for a 2011 version of Learning to live he does do the F# fine, he just doesn't hold it for long

  • james i back!!

  • пидорас безяйций

  • For the same reasons desthbloodydeath mentioned, Bruce Dickinson pwns all.

  • Try hitting that note, just try it. That's right fuck you Dream Theater for being better then us

  • hitting F# in one singing line is not impressive, but this kind of 'woo woo woo...woo woo woo...woo woo wooooooooooooo is 3 times more difficult. Amazing. People don't understand how difficult this kind of gradually increasing the notes. They misunderstood the screaming of high notes is a singer's actual ability. For example, this 3 steps F# is much more difficult than one-stroke A5. Can't believe me, try it yourself. For that reason, rob halford is still my favorite high pitcher.

  • @deathbloodydeath i totally agree.. i even think that the a to c# is even more difficult than the f# itself. heck i can sing an a5 without falsetto, but to sing a low note and slide up to a c#5 without breaking is very very difficult.

  • the public try's to sing along!

  • ahha the public cant sing the f on 0:47

  • 5:52 is my favorite one

  • Chicken Skin 26 times

  • wish I could have a list of when each of these performances was. I like tracking James' progress in getting better as time goes on. Although some of these you can tell what tour it is by the outfit he's wearing ;)

  • Lyrics:

    wooooah, ooaaah oooooah.

    woooah aaaahh aaaaaahh,

    woooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaahahaha

  • I'm lucky to have headphones, because at least one of those F# would have broken my glass window.

  • James: who oo oo, who oo hoo.. whooaa aa Haaaaaa 26#

    Me: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!26#

  • whooo -oooo -ooo,

    whooooaaa- ahhh hooowww,

    whaaa aaaa whaaaaaaaa

*runs for honey and warm water*

  • Woo hoo hooly shit I love James LaBrie.

  • Best was 2:54 - 3:08.

  • 5:14 is without doubt the best!

  • He always leaves after the F#... I adore him ! I really do !

  • @DarePortnoy lol i like that too. you have to give the stage to petrucci there though...it's such a gorgeous solo that follows

  • @Drewb18c1 Most definitely !

  • You should have cut out all of the instrumental parts to make the video shorter and more straight into what is desired. Anyways...

    Whooh-whoooh-WHOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he must get tired of doing that

  • @scarsunseen24 I doubt it. When you have it, flaunt it and let everyone else pee in their pants a little.

  • "Uoo ooo oooh

    Uoow--oooo-woooh.

    WooooooAAA-AAAA-WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOHD"

    -James Labrie pwning his haters-

  • 7:54 That is a F , not F#

  • 0:40 and 3:47 are the same, lol... still a great vid to watch!

  • 3:03 is so gnar

  • 6:54 is the best, pitch-wise, in my opinion. He seems to have trouble with the C# and E directly before the F#. He nailed it in that one, though.

  • I CANT BELIVE MIKE LEFT THE BAND!!! IM GONNA CRY

  • cool! i'd like to have jp's hair. (first part)

  • On some of these I'm really surprised at how poorly the mid-range notes are coming in, especially since he still hit the F#.

  • @RaidonSama Its right in between full voice and passiago, idk. At least with me, its hard to hit those middle ones as well. But the F5# isnt so bad.

  • @pocketfiend36 Yeah, after a few runs through some of my songs I realized that my highest notes were still mostly intact, while the mid-high range of my voice was really hard to control, now that you mention it...

  • 5:50 is amazing.

  • James LaBrie catches a lot of shit for live performances (and rightly so sometimes), but he is clearly awesome X 26!!!

James you Rooock, after all these years even with vocal troubles you are The number 1.Russel Allen ,studio fake vocal, fat singer cock sucker!!

  • The title of this vid should be more like "Listen to James Labrie hit F# "26" times on Learning to Live and John Petrucci perfectly play the solo "26" times also on learning to live"

  • @Freakshow182 nah it should be titled "Listen to James Labrie hit F# "26" times on Learning to Live, John Petrucci perfectly play the solo "26" times also on learning to live, as well as a perfect adhd drum performance from mike portnoy 26 times

  • @VoodooTu @Freakshow182 Nah, it should be titled "The awsome performance of the best band togheter"

  • @Freakshow182 And the title of the song would be like "Learning to Hit a F#".

  • shit my computer froze cos it couldn't handle 4 in a row

  • God, at 3:40 I think he ruined any single note before the F# XD

Plus, it's kinda sad I can tell at what year each of them happened by his look OR by his sound...

  • The only problem is, they shouldn't been G's! ohhhhh

  • ha ha, I just keep playing the one at 2:56- I JIZZZZZED!

  • @MulletMan3108 thats disgusting

  • @MulletMan3108

    Same here!!!

  • @MulletMan3108 you should hear The Killing Hand from that same show. Better than Live at the Marquee.

  • Thank you, this is exacly the vid i have been looking for xD :D

  • 3:05 is just brilliant ! Low in volume on the recording but just so clean... James LaBrie is the man!

  • Id say the second best is at 6.40

  • 5:26 is second best

  • the best one is at 2:56

  • @MulletMan3108 I think that was before he got his chords ruptured, but still, you're right, it was amazing.

  • does he sing the f# with chest voice?

  • @moemoemoemoemoe its head voice all the way

  • there was one time he tried it in chest voice and it sounded pretty decent as well

  • f sharp is HIS note...

jp owns all the other notes

  • hah its always the f#. talented dude

  • See naysayers, James can do pretty impressive shit!

  • God my spine tingled 26 times in this video

  • It's a shame that bad taco ruptured his vocal cords :(

    Still an amazing singer!

  • srsly??

  • I've noticed he doesn't always getting the leading in notes perfect but he can nail that f# really well!

    GRANDI I DREAM.SEMPRE

  • i can only sing it in falsetto:(

  • Same lol but it's getting better x,X

  • most people who hate on james have only played rock band and have never heard images and words or awake

  • He can sing and reach like that to this day? I thought the food poisoning incident fucked LaBrie in the high-pitch vocal dept.

  • it did not

  • Apparently he can. Although it sounded best back in 90's before the food poisoning. BTW, it is hilarious how he runs for the water bottle after this note on every concert. :D

  • It had an impact on his voice for a while, but he recovered.

  • Well, he doesn't get quite as much power on the high notes anymore, and he used to have an even higher range (A5).

That said, especially considering what he has endured, he still sounds amazing, and in some respects is actually singing better than he ever has now.

  • @ProjectBurncan Just to mention, last time he hit an A5 was '07. Last time he hit a G#5 was '08. They haven't played a hard to sing song ever since.

  • It did lower his range for years but it recovered.

  • I came 26 times

  • @snowboardingfreak94 are you gay?

  • @snowboardingfreak94 FUCK YOU

  • @snowboardingfreak94 you think that's impressive. Listen to Geoff Tate hit a G#5 in Blinded. In fact, i think he may even hit an A5..

  • @j800r labrie could have easily hit an A5 20 years ago. No problem.

  • @thefoosa72 he can still hit an A5

  • I personally think James Jabrie is amazing, I don't think I would listen to Dream Theater as much if he weren't in the band.

  • To prove his immense talent as you should hear old recordings of the past. His voice was in top shape. But as some of you may not know, he fell ill which took a large toll on his voice which affected his singing for the worst sadly. Surprisingly for his age and range he still manages to deliver,

For all the people who bash him stop wasting your time and spreading hate. Why don't you be more useful and find artists u connect with and give them some love instead. They're just people... jeez

  • Well, people need to hate others when they hate something about themselves. As retarded as that sounds, it's actually pretty true.

  • Completely agree. I see it all the time. Displacement of their frustrations onto others.

  • What are you on? You can't state a fact. The stuff you're saying are just opinions. Your personal opinions!

  • We like it how he sings Shreddbits. You can fucking deal with it.

  • Yeah, but you see, I could care less if you like James Labrie. I don't sit and comment about how much he sucks/rocks, because I don't care about your opinion. All your doing is taking up space. And your obviously trying to bend the opinion of the other around you by adhomining your ass off.

  • This is true, it's not exactly a well-kept secret that a lot of people have a problem with Labrie's voice and singing, especially since Dream Theater started going for a much heavier approach.

Me, I think he was brilliant when they did Images & Words, he was the perfect singer for that album. Afterwards, his voice started getting on my nerves.

He can still deliver on a good day, but he is often the band's weak link live. "Pull me Under" at Download, to name one example.

  • @YngtchieMusic yeah agree with you there, however he did sing a SHOCKER at download

  • @shreddybits It doesn't make him better (where did you get that?) It's the reason why his voice isn't as good as before. Stop trolling.

  • Agreed, shreddybits. I love Dream Theater, and i do agree that Labrie's tone does match the tone of the band, and there moments live or on albums where he sounds good, but usually it sounds like he has very little pitch control in the higher ranges. I admit that he can sometimes land an amazingly high and good sounding note, he does have professional talent and training, but his voice can irritate me most of the time due to how nasally and whiny he can sound. Sometimes hes great, but not usually

  • give the man a break-- he ruptured his vocal chords in '94 and that's not an easy thing to get over for a singer of his caliber.

  • Well, he's screaming a note. And if his screaming is pointless, then notes must be pointless. Which means all music is pointless. Do you see the flaw in your logic?

  • Could it be from you know destroying his vocal chords around 2001...?

  • Nah, he actually has pitch control, so, stop bashing the poor guy, he hasn't done anything to you and does what he loves. Just be happy for him. I wish I had half the talent he has. And also, I don't think I "beat" you. This wasn't a contest. I'm just saying, by your logic all music is pointless. Geez. And besides, I saw DT live at Prog Nation 09, LaBrie killed it. Like, he was amazing. Nailed In The Name Of God. So chill out, he's got a great voice.

  • You can't control your gag reflex, so you blowing me was fucking retarded.

    Boosh.

  • 7:30 ...Holy Jesus jumpin' fuckin' shit balls!

  • LaBrie is GOD!

  • 3:35 is rough minus the last note.

  • some of his F#s in this compilations are bordering on Gs, what a god

  • That sounds absolutely awesome

  • I can hit that

    ......If I go falsetto lol

  • I get the point with your video but it kinda gets a little repetitive...

(nah, just kidding, it doesn't :-o!)

  • loling at the crowd trying to sing with him XD nubs

  • I always wondered how much better his voice would be nowadays if he actually listened to the doctors and rested it for the 3 months he was supposed too...

  • the solo makes my balls exploding at anytime.

  • his voice sort of recovered but many years have passed so he can't really get back to the original condition because of natural vocal aging. it's a shame we didn't get to hear his voice as it was supposed to be during all those years in between /=

  • Labrie is F-U-C-K-I-N-G A-W-E-S-O-M-E.

has his voice recovered? so it says in wikipedia.

  • yeh it has

  • Yep, though you know, that "crispy" effect he had was lost during the years. He reached all his high notes (including an A) during 07.

  • Which song has he hit an A in? I thought the highest was the recorded G in the climax of octavarium.

  • Didn't he hit a G# in Score - anyways, it's not impressive he can hit an F# - it's the way he does it sometimes - it's just so clear and powerful. Most of the time when a singer hits those notes they sound thin, even in head voice. Not with Labrie...

  • number of the beast live

  • man...

what we would all give to see james back in his old voice :[. We just have to deal with it!

  • JJJJJJEEEEEESSSSSSSSS

  • do it with your chest and say that again.

  • Mercy this is mixed voice dammit.Matt Barlow gets the high A and some other tenor metallers get the high c.

  • 3 07 wow what a voice!

  • Yeah man! That is definitely the best F# he`ve ever done. The best one I`ve ever heard.

  • there's some kids here whose don't know what is music, fast not mean good guitarist, john is the best guitarist in the world

    and dream theater =life

  • somebody know the name of the bootleg of the last F# one? thanks!

  • That is hardly the reason Dream Theater makes music. Have you ever accomplished something and became very proud of yourself?

Judging from your name, I suppose you're a skater. What about nailing a hard board trick? It's a great feeling, huh? What makes that different from nailing an incredibly demanding song in odd time signatures, all while having fun? Thing is, just because you're a pro musician, and other people can't detect your passion, doesn't mean there is no passion. Open your mind.

  • if you think that about DT, you must've only listened to maybe one of their songs. You dipshit.

  • Dragonforce is i cna play faster than you music.

    Please fuck off.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

    roflroflrogflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflrofl

  • What?

  • I don't know what a "guitarest" is.

Stupid "skater" kid, think you are tough?

  • They're fucking monitors.

  • LMFAO. Listen little boy, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Go back to your sandbox and have mommy pour you a little KoolAid. Fool.

  • go listen to anything on the images and words album and you'll realise dream theater have an immens passion for music. go smoke weed with the rest of your greasy skaterboy mates.

learning to live is fucking amazing

  • fucking hell mate are you deaf, james hust hit a fucking f# and the folowing guitar solo isnt that fast

  • his tong's so damn funny

    look exacly at 4:24

    aahaha

  • i have a question where the hell is he going everytime he nails that F# lol

  • I'd love a glass of water after that hahaha

  • lol charlie dominicci's voice was a million times worse than labries. it's a shame that labrie ruptured his vocal chords way back when. he used to be godly.

  • I love how 90% of the time after doing it, he walks away like "yeah....I'm the f*@(in man....I'm hanging my mic up for a minute"

    amazing....

  • Nails it every fucking time.

  • 5:50 sickest one in my opinion.

  • 2:55 dude

  • labrie´s the best

  • by the way!...love you James!!!!!

  • snowchick84....have you lost your mind ?..your hate to James is so big that you seems to be losing your mind because of your jealousy.....I feel sorry for you...

  • Labrie is great, I couldn't think of any replacement that would fit in dt like he does.

  • C'mon, everyone can see that snowchick is only jealous 'cos herself can't sing

  • ok snow beauty maybe ur right about he doesnt write . but i think he is xtremely talented singer , also with vocal choirs injured . thanks for comment

  • backing singers whatever I have seen all DT concerts there are no backing singers and by the way the pats he sang in take the time recently live are some of the toughest and by the way if you are talking about the backing singers in The Spirit Carries on it's mean to be like that cause on the original they were it was suppose to create that affect ! Please I have grown up Listening to Dream Theater get your facts together then talk!

  • what? the gospel chorus is because the song is like that in the album...
