Funny that the statue of liberty was actually supposed to be built in Port Said in Egypt. And it was supposed to be called something else. And the woman is representing an Egyptian Peasent woman.

Bartholdi (The architect) was a freemason and interested in Egypt. If you dont believe me, go and visit the french museum where the original mini version of the statue is.

I've lived in NY my whole life and still get filled with wonder whenever I see the statue of liberty. It meant so much to so many people.

Imagine being on a boat for weeks and only seeing water then all of a sudden this statue comes into view. A symbol of so much promise for so many people.

They used to issue special 'gold' crown tickets only to the first ferry arriving at the island. I was last there with my Mom the third week of August 2001. Her first time in NYC from Ohio. She loved he statue and the majestic views from the crown as well as Ellis Island and the Twin Towers.

Glad they are looking into opening it again.

i went iside the statue of liberty on june 13th 2008. I read a sign inside it said that the inside of the statue was closed for a number of reasons. inside the copper statue temperatures rose up to 25 degrees hotter than outside. The statue did not meed the national building code for fire safety and prevention. The national park service has no plans of re opening the statue but you can go all the way up into the pedestal if you reserve tickets with time.
