@stri8ted thank you! emotion is where i always try to play from and through, so if you feel it i have succeeded. the un linear thing has been a very interesting pursuit, trying to not play 'stickings" but actually two seperate interconnected ideas between the hands. same kind of vibe im also trying to explore using both feet too.
@playswithpassion very true lol. i was totally in the moment so little things like that don't really distrupt much overall, at least i hope not. hehe.
@matthew182ITA thanks! one video a month is the plan because these are longer in length than in the past. the next series will be mostly orchestral stuff and shorter in length so i will probably change to one vid every 2 weeks for that. then after that go back to one a month when i start making live trio videos.
@drumgroovemusic you can do, as you like. you can take the music of Vivaldi from CD or let it play by aldy. both versions "sound" very interesting to me. in my hometown Kamenz in saxonia, Germany, we hat the "Tag der Sachsen" - party from 2nd to 4th of September and there i listened to a young drummer who did this very good. now i am interested in your version. :-D
@drumgroovemusic Dude I've been jamming on Vivaldi for 2 years now, the 4 seasons are in my opinion the best classical masterpiece to put drums on. Espeacially "Summer", "Spring" and one of the piece of "Winter".
Wow, awesome. You're one of the few drummers, that also know, what not to do and how to not exaggerate. Your ghost notes are bloody awesome! That is why I recommend a better (and a litlle bit louder) snare mix too.
@gurkenhamster thanks! working on jazz kind of studies i think helps a lot with ghost notes aswell as a book like future sounds, where you're playing accented sticking grooves. ghost notes themselves are easy though because all you're doing is tapping a drum lightly with a much smaller motion than a regular stroke. the mix is exactly how i want it, i just played the ghost notes super light. was going for the "felt but not heard" kind of vibe.
@COWZ14 thanks! haha, nah the mix is exactly how i wanted it. if you notice the cymbal sits in a good level with the piano melody, the ghost notes being really quiet is just how i'm playing them not how they're mixed.
you don't seem to be playing drums, most of the people on youtube play the drums, but you feel them, your playing doesnt consist in strokes, it consists in notes, its very cool
@lucasathus thanks! well i try to focus on the music, the melody and not so much "drums". so thats where the feeling comes from, contributing to the whole picture rather than just playing a certain groove or fill. i think this approach though alot of people use. :)
@NYTROOPA don't feel dumb, its all good man. its cool you figured it out :) music isnt that confusing if you're able to break it down into simple parts. if you place your attention on the very simple starting points of any concept its really not difficult to continue to build into understanding more intricate ideas.
Also, I'm fairly new to drumming and am just learning about time signatures. Can you help me with this one. It seems like Two bars of 4/4 then one of 3/4 then after the break its in 4/4 for a little bit and goes back into two of 4/4 and one 3/4. Or could it be one bar of 4/4 and one of 3/8? But it seems like he's accenting the 1 to make it two of 4/4.. Still learining this thing. Thanks.
Love the syncopation and the feel in this song. I play way too hard and every time I watch your videos I think to myself " I need more control." This was brilliant. I am going to really try to play more relaxed and with more feel.
@ChocoDragees thanks! yeah i really felt this performance and tried to just play dynamically in a way that complimented aldy's playing but didn't get in the way of melody.
Sweet!
