Moe's Triple Slap-Down on Larry CANNOT be riveled ! AND his indignation at being called a "porter"...lol. As if a Stooge is above that !...lol. Great clip !
Some of the funniest Stooges bits were Moe's malice-laden lines as he slapped Larry throughout the series, this one being an all time classic! Also worth mentioning are all the amazing hair-pulls and head-pushes that Larry received at Moe's abusive hands. :)
Just listened to Adam Carolla on Bill Simmons' podcast discuss how Buster Douglas doubled up on his punches in the Tyson fight...now I see Moe TRIPLE UP on his slaps! Nice work pointing this one out.
@andynovak I'm not exactly sure what year, but I can tell you it's on Volume 4. I own it. lol I didn't intend to get 8, but one of my favorite Shemp shorts aren't on 6 or 7 so I may have to put up with Joe Bessar in the end. lOl
I just recently watched this episode and it's extremely hilarious. lOl You all have to get those Three Stooges Collections DVDS. There are 7 volumes of this now.
hahaha, when i heard the lady's first two "Oh! OH!!!"s i though't something else was going on behind that door ;) then i died laughing when i heard curly's woo woo woo
Man, to hell with what people may say or think. I just read all the comments posted on this clip and I say f... em. This is damn funny and the black face joke don't mean sh.. I don't see why anybody would get offended by that and weren't there black guys on the stooges acts as well? Big deal I'm lmao right now!!!!
Yeah, there were. It was a completely different time back then. The black actors in the shorts were mostly cast in servant roles, but they always found a way to steal the scene somehow.
Yes that paint brushing Moe put on Larry is classic but the black face joke part of it is a little touchy. I'm a black dude and I don't go along with discrimination but dammit this is hilarious baby!!!!
Shemp was the only one that had anything to do with boxing that I know of. It was Shemp's favorite sport. I also read most of the Stooges had had calluses from being slapped so often. Ouch! Thanks for the clip.
when they rerun this episode, they now totally edit this scene on some stations, larry starts laughing and they cut to themselves wiping off the ink, political correctness run amok..
Aww lighten up everyone! Just enjoy them for what they were ...and times they were living in! Personally... I think they were light years funnier than the Marx Bros, and anyone else before or since. But maybe I'm just a wise guy nuck nuck .... why I orta!
Larry KNOWS better than to f**k with Moe. I would've helped Moe clean that stuff off his face than laugh at him!! I could understand why Larry got hit half the time!!
For a long time I never really understood what Larry's purpose was, but I figured it out when I got older. He's the one that receives the worst punishments for the stupid stuff he does. If you watch the shorts really well you can see what I mean. Larry always does or says something dumb and always pays for it far worse than Curly or Shemp put together.
tough to agree, shemp got slapped around quite a bit as well, and it was so funny with his hair always hanging over into his face after he was slapped around..
"This clip shows how racism existed everywhere in the 30's, even in comedy"
Ya know that was something I thought about when I watched this vid. But then I thought about how far this country has come on that issue. In some cases like the 3 stooges it wasn't so much a matter of racism as it was accepted as the norm. As I understand from research, all 3 of the stooges were great friends with the black actors in that comedy series. Curly and the porter in "hold that lion" were best friends.
I was not pointing out the Stooges in particular but noting the racism that was excepted at that time. Yes, we have come a long way, stuff like this still exist today in a different way.
There's nothing racist in the clip. Larry's "Mammy!" comment (and pose) was merely a reference to a famous scene in the movie "The Jazz Singer," in which the line is uttered by Al Jolson in black face. Now, whether or not "The Jazz Singer" was somehow racist is a separate discussion, but there is no way to view this Stooges clip as racist if it is taken in the correct context.
The "porter" comment as well is free from racism, since it is true that porters in hotels in big cities during that time were more often than not black. Reading any more into it than that is just another attempt to manufacture racism when in reality nobody really cares about so-called "race."
It always has me in tears and I don't find it offensive. It was in the 40s. You got to know what kind of time it was back then. It would be different if they just dropped the "N-Bomb" just for kicks.
yes, the politically correct far left kooks crowd would have a seizure over this one just because of that one line. I am really surprised YouTube can air it without a lawsuit. If that was made today, the director and a few others involved would be doing some serious hate crime time in the slammer. Sad isn't it that many of us have become so thin skinned we can't take a joke. I love the Stooges, but I guess I am old school.
Well at the time that stuff could slide, but we all know it wouldn't slide by today's standards. I'm not saying how they used be was fair, but some thing just have to be let go. I'm black and I still thing 3 Stooges are the best since sliced bread. lol
The stooges make fun of a lot of people. I am white, and I sure would not care if someone made fun of me being white. You are right....the stooges were from a different time. Well, considering the Three Stooges themselves were liberal Democrats and were among the first to use black actors in their shorts, and having been discriminated themselves at points because they were Jews...
