Two things wrong here. First, you need to wait for the disc to spin down before you eject the original and replace it with the backup. It takes about 10 mins! Second, if you use a 3 way switch with more poles you can make this whole thing into one switch, left load, middle eject, right off. I've done this and it works great, you just need to make sure you read the tutorial properly (all 25 pages of it) and remember to wait before putting in the backup.

Also, when I say "right:off", I mean off/auto load so you can still use the PS3 normally.
