  • I'd have to see him in some other things before I could see him as The Doctor, but I could easily see Sherlock appearing in a couple Doctor Who episodes, or even Benedict playing a major villain on Doctor Who.

  • He could do a two parter. That's more than AN episode.

  • ...If he ever was the Doctor, or more likely due to the news as of late, the Master, then I'm pretty sure I'd explode into a million pieces from sheer JOY. :3

  • Sooooo... theres going to be a movie? :D

  • The first time I saw Sherlock, i thought, he woukd be an amazing Doctor as well...

  • I heard he's going to be The Master!

  • Oh my god he is hinting at being in the movie.

  • I just spit coffee out of my mouth. Ok not really, but I would LOVE him as the Doctor.

  • This needs to happen.

  • WORLDS UNITE!

  • When was this?

  • and in the Hobbit?!

  • He's the future ginger Doctor!

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • maybe he could play sir arthur conan doyle in doctor who

  • @basic8877 Oh my goodness, that would be so cool!

  • omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg hell yes

  • I think what might not work for him being The Doctor, is not his acting abilities, because as any dedicated cumberbitch will know, he's capable of just about any role... i think it wouldn't be his cup of tea, he's usually an actor more into realism, his parts have never been too abstract (excluding Frankenstein's monster) and so to suddenly play an alien in a sci-fi series might be a bit out of his tastes, as it were, he seems less into that sort of genre, but what do i know?! Maybe one day xD

  • @hayleythompson123

and the role in Star Trek? ;)

  • @hayleythompson123 realism ? he is currently filming in LA for star trek 12 :)

  • I get what he means, it would be too big a difference from playing Sherlock to then a minor role... not to mention playing someone so well respected and powerful to then have to step down and be under the doctor in terms of superiority. He also wouldn't work the Doctor as well i don't think, partly because people would whine that moffat is doing a tim burton (casting johnny depp and Helena B.C. in every film) however, i'd vote him up for The Master any day!

  • obviously he should be the master to smith's doctor

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee <3

  • He would make an amazing Doctor. Might just rekindle my love of the series...after 10th went, I kinda lost interest (not that Matt is bad, he's actually really good. I just couldn't get into the story as much.)

  • If Benedict becomes the Doctor, we need a male companion played by Martin Freeman. Those two are gold together.

  • wow you're right, that does sound pompous...

  • I'm sure he turned the part DOWN at some point?

  • I think Cumberbatch being the Doctor would be something like the return of the Fourth Doctor. He kinda looks like the Fourth Doctor; stick him in number four's clothes and he'd be a dead ringer. Plus the Fourth Doctor was almost like an outer space Sherlock Holmes anyway.

  • I think he would be an amazing Doctor ;) I could listen to his voice for days...

  • mr cumberbatch i hate you for that troll giggle at the end.

  • On acting prowess, I think he'd make an excellent Doctor. And I think that he's perfectly in the right not to want to settle for a small role on Doctor Who coming off of Sherlock and when he clearly has a great desire to be the Doctor.

  • Dayum, just imagine him as the Master. A deep-voiced, ginger Master.

  • WHOLOCK. It's crossover time.

  • It did sound a bit pompous, but oh well, I want him in more then one episode as well!

  • not AN episode, THE movie!!!

  • @Petsister My exact thoughts! :)

  • "not an episode..." Please do a whole movie by all means

  • I want him as the 13th doctor!! Imagine..."I'M GINGER!!"

  • yes 12th doctor!!! but lets not loose matt just yet

  • 'Not AN episode of Doctor who' <Hinting they he may be in more than ONE

Do you want to be the doctor? 'Maybe' <Not leaving the possibility of 'yes' out of the question.

'Hasent crossed my radar MUCH' <Meaning that it HAS before.

'Strange thing to play a SMALL role in doctor who' <meaning that he will play a major one :D

'Powder dry for this... FOR NOW' <Fuck sake people, future doctor or master HELLOOOOO?

  • Comment removed

  • Matt is an amazing Doctor but Benadict would rock this world as the Doctor, i will be so sad to see Matt leave Doctor Who but i would feel so much better if i knew Benadict was taking over lol

  • Yes. Just yes. He even wants to be the Doctor, why the hell shouldn't he be? HE'D BE PERFECT.

  • When I first watched "Sherlock" I thought that he would make an AWESOME Doctor!!!

  • I think he would make a better Master than he would the Doctor. And how much fun would that be...

  • @TheSaoMagnifico i agree, he'd make a great Master against Matt Smith's Doctor. It'd be a sight to see, the two of them together. But i wouldn't mind Benedict Cumberbatch becoming the Doctor after Matt leaves, whenever that may be (hopefully not very soon)!

  • 12TH DOCTOR!!!!!! YYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not AN episode... Maybe more than one. PLEASE?!?!?!?! HE WOULD BE GINGER!!!!!

  • @lolpirates003 Haha, just what I was thinking! :P

  • YES PLEASE!

  • I would love him as the 12th Doctor. it would be hilarious.

they can have an episode where 11 meets a future version of himself. Amy says "You're finally ginger." 12: I hate being ginger." Amy: I thought you wanted to be ginger." 12: all those years thinking about it, and I'm finally ginger I'm tired of it."

I can totally see him as the Doctor. fingers crossed for 2013, or when Smith is done. I like Smith but they need a new Dr.

  • Doctor but not in an episode... maybe in the David Yates movie version?

  • without sounding pompous..... well to hell with it, might as well sound pompous

  • I would love to see him as the Doctor. I think he would be brilliant in that role and could actually rival my love for David Tennant.

  • @SparklingDiamondLove i agree with everything you say there even the last line... yes i love him too ^^

  • he would be such a good doctor!!!

  • I can see him as either Omega, or as a very young version of the First Doctor.

  • Comment removed

  • God he'd be the perfect Master. 50th Anniversary, Moffat! Make it happen!

  • Matt Smith did audition to be John Watson, but they said he was too barmy. I agree, but he would have made a good Sherlock.

  • definitely should be a master

  • get it? not AN episode of doctor who.

  • THIS GUY HAS TO BE THE MASTER!!!

  • “Now that you’ve worked with Steven—”

    “Yesssss~ yes.”

“—Moffat on this, do you think we’ll be seeing you in an episode of Doctor Who in the future?”

“Not an episode of Doctor Who, No.”

“You don’t want to do that, then?”

“Not an episode of Doctor Who, No.”

“Do you want to be the Doctor?”

“Maybe. We’ll see, I mean it’s-it’s-it’s something that hasn’t really, um, crossed my radar much

  • but I think ha-havi—playing Sherlock Holmes it’s a bit of a strange thing to then play a small role in Doctor Who, without sounding too Pompous. Uhm. Well, to hell with it if it does sound Pompous it won’t be to us, but I mean I’m a huge fan of the series and amazing people to amazing work in it in a-in all parts of all episodes. Uhm, no. I’m gonna keep my powder dry for this, for now. And as I said before, not AN episode of Doctor Who.”

  • I wanted him to be the doctor before i found out it was gonna be matt smith (who I love so its all good) but yeah he should totally be the next doctor! He'd be great! John Simm should definitely stay as the master though

  • He must be The Master. I have decided that Rory is theMaster in his human form and then BAM

  • @powerkisses That's funny. My best friend thinks the same thing. But yes, yes I like this theory <3

  • OH MY GOD he is taunting my inner fangirl. I don't even care whether the Master or the Doctor, he would be amazing in either.

  • He shouldn't be the Master, John Simm still is. He wants to come back and I'dd love to see him back. However, as a replacement for Simm he would do brilliant.

  • how cool it would be if he is not going to be the doctor or the master but Doctor's next COMPANION now that would be so goooood :)))

  • Go back further. Benedict Cumberbatch as The Valeyard.

  • Not the Master - he'd be amazing in that, of course, but I think there's another role that, IMHO, would be absolutely perfect for him: THE VALEYARD. The Doctor's brilliance, madness and charme, given the darkest of twists... Ooh God, yes Benedict, you're the man.

  • I think he would be an amazing Doctor, he acts brilliant, and he is a brilliant actor. I think Benedict is just crazy enough to be the Doctor

  • HE MUST BE THE NEXT MASTER. HE MUST.

  • oh my god that would be really cool

  • He wants to be in Doctor Who, but if he does, he doesn't want to be a one-off character he wants a significant role... THE DOCTOR OR THE MASTER OFC!!! :D

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLLLLEEEAAASSSSEEE!!!!

  • "Not AN episode"? "After playing Sherlock it's a strange thing to play a small role in Dr Who" He's so going to be in several episodes and clearly NOT a small role. JASHFADFKJSHAAH.

  • Benedict would make a perfect doctor.

  • Cheeky bugger ahaha

  • Not an episode... what then? it's like he really makes sure to say not an EPISODE! But maybe something else? Anyway, it would be strange if he was in Doctor who.

Apart from that. Dear goodness, how cute he is in the end *dying*

  • I would think he would be great as the master ~ But I'm still In love with John Simm ;_;

  • I reeeeeeally want him to be the Master. I could see him playing evil quite well...

  • and as far as him playing the Master or 12 i really do adore John Simm a bit to much to wholeheartedly agree with that and 11 is my Doctor, thinking ahead to 12 already makes me cringe a bit ^^U

  • Doctor and Sherlock crossover FTW!

  • at last the doctor would be GINGER!!!

  • @LaLunaVar lol, wasn't one of matt smith's first lines something like "phew, I'm not ginger"? xD

  • @Lizziegal1 no...it was "and still not ginger!" ...something like that...

  • Benedict would be a great Dr Who, possibly even the greatest. Maybe one day we will find out (hope so). Matt Smith is great as Dr Who though so I dont want to see him go but should he step down in the future Benedict would be the ultimate replacement. Benedict was fantastic in Frankenstein as well.

  • He HAS TO BE THE NEXT DOCTOR.

God damn it. This has to be done!

  • I see Benny as more of a Master. I know alot of people want him 2 be the doctor, but I feel his role as Sherlock would contridict his role if he was the Doctor. Sherlock dosen't consider himself as a hero, & neither does the Doctor. They both save lives, they are alike. I feel it wouldn't happen,& anyway Benedict said in this 'Not just an episode.' He said he didn't want 2 sound 2 pompus, getting a small role in DW. There, was a rumor that Benedict & John Simm where seen on set together :)

  • FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS (NATURALLY) GINGER, I NEED THIS TO HAPPEN.

  • He would be fantastic as the Master, if they extended the role out to more than just a few episodes. He would be good as the Doctor as well.

  • BE THE MASTER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

  • Haha he seems like such a great guy xD I realise he might sound pompous, but I do agree, he couldn't just play a guest role. I'd love to see him as the Doctor, but I also hope being the Master would appeal to him as well.

  • Bill Nighy for The Doctor, please!

  • @Nizman HE cant be the doctor he has already played a museum tour guide in the van gogh episode of who. If youve played a bit part in who youre basically screwed as you cant be the doctor in the future. Bill Nighy would be a great doctor but he is such a huge star and hes not getting any younger so my guess is he is happy with life as it is. Making dr who is supposed to be long and gruelling work days and I wouldnt recommend putting that pressure on an older gentlemen such as Bill Nighy.

  • @XybeX Karen Gillan played a minor part in an episode of Doctor Who and went on to become the doctor's companion, which I think anyone would say is the second most important role. So, I wouldn't rule him out just on that basis, myself.

  • @samuellesays Well maybe, but as seen in tennants video diaries there are a lot of gruesome night shoots on doctor who and the whole schedule is hectic more or less all the time I don´t think putting that kind of pressure on an old gentleman like Bill would be in his best interest. Also he is so such a big movie star nowadays that I don´t see him dropping movie deals for a tv show. He´s earned his success and deserves the good money and the slower pace of making movies.

  • @XybeX I know that BC's done museum staff and Van Gogh, on two separate occasions, but a tour guide in Doctor Who? Really? And I believe Bill Nighy had shown interest before, but I can't remember very well.

  • @academicsrule No i answered Nizmans statement regarding bill nighy. He played museum tour guide in the van gogh episode. Not saying he wouldnt be a great Doctor only that it´s not likely. Bill Nighy is fantastic i´m sort of sorry his part was so short in´the episode he was in then again the role was a pivotal one for the stora and a great actor even in a small but important role can really elevate an episode.

  • Not an episode... episodeS (plural)?

  • I like the idea of him being The Master but he'd make such a good Doctor...

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can he be The Master.

  • OMG!! Either play the Master, play Omega, or best of all play the TWELFTH REGENERATION!! I would LITERALLY die from happiness if any of these things came true. Or if he was in Doctor Who in any way, shape, or form :DDD

  • @magnusmastah it would be a shame if you died cause then you wouldnt be able to see his acting in the show lol

  • Benedict Cumberbatch as the Rani, calling it now.

Also, wasn't he the the original choice for 11th Doctor?

  • @furQ nope, in an interview called the "sunday times magazine" he dispels that rumor by saying that one time him and david tennant talked about it, but that he was never called up for the role and never expressed an interest in it. actually, matt smith (11th doctor) tried out for the role of dr. watson but was turned down, and then not long after he was picked for dr who. :) and personally, i like the casting just the way it is.

  • His voice can be heard in the new trailer for series 6.

  • oh i'd love to see benedict as the 12th doctor ! and yes, hugh laurie would be amazing too.. but i'm really glad steven moffat didn't choose benedict as the 11th doctor, because matt smith is AWESOME ! a genius. as benedict. and steven moffat. well, steven moffat has this talent to find genius people to play genius characters.

*sorry for my english, french fan talking :)*

  • He should defenitley be the 12th doctor, then it should be Hugh Laurie.

  • YES YES!!!!! He'd be the perfect Doctor!!

  • "Not AN episode, no."

So Moffat just has to write Benedict into multiple episodes and voila.

  • i wouldnt want benedict as the docter because then he'll start apealing to a larger audience and then he'll stop being my unheard of fetish! altho really if he did become the docter i woldnt mind being his assistant ..wouldngt we all care for a ride in benedicts tardis ;)

  • @littlesmegger He hasn't confirmed this actually, none of them have signed on for another series yet and Matt has sights set on movies, that's well-known so i doubt he'll stay 'til 2013. Til series 8? No way.

  • why do they need to talk so fast? xP My english suck, but i have nothing against to watch the clip more than just one time x)

    Benedict<33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

I want mooooore of Sherlock now! <3

  • He should be the master.

  • "Not AN episode,"

Meaning.. two-parter? Like when the Doctor was in SJA in October? Because, two things this epic coming together couldn't be over after just one episode.

    Ooohhh yeaahh. B)

  • O.o When I See Him I Really Truthfully See The Doctor ... I Guess It's The Smile xDD ... That Certain Smile the Doctor Gives You And You Automatically Know What It Means. " RUN !! " ;DD

  • @littlesmegger I dought Doctor who will make it to series 40. But you could be right, if there is a 14th Doctor then I'll admit I was wrong. But until then I still hold my opinion that 13th Doctors to be the maximum of lives , since it's a big part of the Doctor's mythology.

  • O_O oh dear the amount of things I love and want to come of this

  • @littlesmegger I don't buy it the thirteen live rule is so well known to fans alike it would be stupid to change it, anyway the Doctor might have been joking.

  • BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH = TWLEVE

  • He's naturally a ginger. Ten and Eleven's regenerations have been building until we can finally rejoice in the ging.

  • @andyoubrute Your comment just brings happiness to my inner geek. I would love how happy Dr Who would have to be if he were ginger ^_^

  • I don't want him to be the Doctor because I'd really love Sherlock and Doctor Who to be kept separated. However if he was I would be fine with it. I just feel Sherlock and the Doctor are living similar lives. Sherlock is the Doctor. John is the companion, and Moriarty is the master. So technically if they met it would be the same thing. I think he'll play the master, he would be FANTASTIC! :D However I liked John Simm. FYI: He is my favourite actor, and I love him :D Can't wait 4 SHERLOCK!

  • @XxLi3rose123xX But Moffat said that there will be no more Sherlock after the next season =)

  • @TheOrminlange Really? Nnoo! :( When did he say this?

  • @TheOrminlange NU UH NO WAY. ;___; That's impossible! I think I would have heard that. I thought he once said he was going to keep going with the series, eventually start making their own stories instead of basing them off the books. That's a long way from now. I think Sherlock is here to stay for at least a few years.

  • @Aiicyla Well, it's possible, but Moffat also said that it's hard to balance both Sherlock and Doctor Who. And Benedict have kinda given the expression that he wishes to play in the Doctor Who series sometime.

I don't know - they didn't say it directly, but it was between the lines.

  • Valeyard in the next series of Doctor Who possibly?

  • I'd like to see him as Holmes for a while. I wonder if they're planning more episodes?

  • he's brilliant!

  • I WANT HIM TO BE THE DOCTOR

  • YesyesYES, he would be an amazing Master. :'D

  • @CloudFreedomFighters that's actually really clever!!!!

  • matts going to quite after the sixth series and the doctor only has 12 regeneration's before he actually dies :'(

  • @acciodalek nope! he has 5 thousand and something, he said in SJA!:)

  • @melina880 507 which is 5+0+7= 12

  • PRAISE GODTISS

  • OHHHH future master/future main baddy? I dont think he would get the doc spot - given Matt has only just got the job - but I think he would make a rather awesome season spanning bad guy!

  • @flutterflygoddess as great as he is, smiffy's got to go someday.........

  • my only problem with him playing a future doctor is the fact hed b too similar to wat sherlock is now =/ i think it would b better just to do a crossover :D

  • @OnTheEdgeOfTheMirror

I agree, have Cumberbatch play Holmes and have Matt and Karen and Arthur come down for an episode to work with Sherlock Holmes, who wouldn't love that? I personally want Matt to stay on for at least three series. but that's just me.

  • i think it would be interesting to have a sort of mash up show involving both the doctor and sherlock, there is nothing to say that this couldnt happen as Moffat writes both and they are both fictional characters which provides you with the ability to drop them into each others story lines!

  • Benedict Cumberbatch as The Master in series 6

  • @akumatekkusu666 Rain check, 7. CUMBERBATCH VS. SMITH 2012.

  • @bigfatcarp93

wait he really is going to play the master???

  • @akumatekkusu666 Not confirmed, but DAMN I HOPE SO.

  • thumbs up if 'Cumberpatch' is your safe word too! ^_^

  • He would be amazing as The Doctor. I think everyone can see that XD

  • I spy The Master..

  • Benedict Cumberbatch is adorable. 'Nuff said.

  • he looks like a shrivelled grape.

  • @milllybob xD I was reading these comments, most of them say how cute he is, and then I come across yours, which made me laugh so hard I started crying. Thank you for making my day. <3 xD

  • I don't think he should be the Doctor (though that would be cool). He should be the Master for Series 6. Because we all know the Master never really dies, and Benedict Cumberbatch would be perfect for the part.

  • With all due respect, I see him more as The Master, not as The Doctor.

  • he is pompous... but i love him deeply... :P

  • Oh my good lord. I would simply die if he was the Doctor.
