First of all id like to start off with longboards are skateboards, and that based on the length of these boards (yes length is actually the determining factor of a longboard) these are longboards. This is technical sliding, different from softwheel sliding on a "longboard", and different from street skating. The stuff these guys are doing takes a lot more skill than coleman slides or standup slides on a "longboard"

I've been a skateboarder all my life just never had a longboard, now Im getting into cruising as well. Is the sliding all bout taking your weight off the board when you're leaning onto your hands ? What durometer wheels are recommended for sliding like this ? Does it not give you instant flat spots ?

@scorch656 yes, but wheels are very important. recommend slide-as for hard wheel slides (or Brazilian Moskas if you can get 'em) and something like the Heshers or LY Zombies (84a) for a dropped deck or the yellow (86a) Orangatangs for a top mount.

@scorch656 I cruise and slide all around. 75a are more cruising and for anything from 86-90a sliding is real easy. maybe even higher. but the higher you go the less grip you have and you have to say good bye to turning corners normally

@scorch656 its not exactly taking your weight off of the board, its more like distributing your weight well between your hands and boards so you dont lose your board. and like its not exactly durometer, more like wheel shape, and urethane formula. I like cult classics and metro motions (both are 80a). if your sliding your skateboard, get something like earthwing slide a's in 99a or gravity sergio yuppie sliders (99a). but i mean, really, any skateboard wheel will work.

you can't really compare the two or call one or the other more or less difficult, there's just a learning curse for each. While yes, it's much easier to break out hard wheels for a checkslide, it isn't exactly easy to hold it for several feet while flying down a hill or doing a standing 360 down that same hill or a hands down 720.

unless you do it, you can't know. and we slide both hard and soft wheels.
