Police officers had been observing a large drug transaction when Carty entered the house under observation with a package. When she left, the police followed her. She led them on a high-speed chase. During the chase, carty attempted to run over an officer. The police eventually recovered two pistols, $3,900 in cash, and fifty pounds of marijuana from her car.

WHAT WERE NOT TOLD in 1992, Carty was arrested for auto theft when she rented a car Carty identified herself as an FBI agent, so : the FBI also investigated her for impersonating an officer. Carty pleaded guilty and was placed on a ten-year term of probation (she was still on probation when arrested for murdering Rodriguez). The state agreed to dismiss the auto theft charge if Carty would act as an informant. her supervising officer concluded that she was an uncontrollable informant.

It is unfortunate that British organizations are attempting to represent this killer as some kind of victim, when the real victims are Joana Rodriguez, her husband and their child.
If you are tired of all the pro-Carty propaganda, I suggest reading the court's response to her 2004 appeal.
This can be found on the Texas Judiciary's site (google for 74295+carty)
This gives a lot more information regarding the strong evidence against Carty and the background to the crime.

When he had enough of her lies and moved out, again she claimed that she was pregnant and begged him not to leave her. She told everyone she was pregnant and due to give birth the day of/after she kidnapped the baby. The day she was arrested, she told a friend that she had given birth. Carty had a long history of criminal behavior. She is really scuzzy and a murderer.

I was just commenting that many people on here are spouting bullshit media-hyped crap against her without knowing bugger all actual FACTS of the case. Never having SEEN anything but this video and then reading the case/trial notes I then made a totally unbiased judgement as to whether I'd sign a petition to help. However, I thought there were too many holes in her case to support her but I'm not going to mud-sling either!

She was accused of plotting to kill her female neighbour and steal her newborn baby, however the criminals caught assaulting the neighbour, who gave her name, had a vendetta against her from her work at the drugs squad.

@electricfairie Utter b.s. She was arrested for GTA and impersonating an FBI agent and to get a lesser sentence she talked the HPD into allowing her to be an informant. Soon after they severed all ties with her because, one, she was a loose canon and did what she wanted to do, and two, she was caught selling drugs on the side and tried to run over a police officer when he tried to stop her. She was never some big inside drug informant. She hadn't worked for HPD for years.

She was pretending to be pregnant to get her b.f. to come back to her and told everyone she was giving birth the day after the kidnapping. She had the mother wrapped up in duct tape and then she put a plastic bag over the poor woman's head and taped it so she would not get air.
