1. Brother Ali is so wonderful and I respect him so much for what he does.
2. People like this FunkytownGotcha character and others really make the gift of YouTube so much more annoying and frustrating. There's no need to attack people and start arguments in the comments section. Take it outside. We all just stopped by to watch a video, that's all.
Jake One and Ali are a perfect combination. I relate to this song a lot because I go for weeks on end being unproductive then out of nowhere I am flooded with creative juices!
@TheFunkytownGotcha & Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as belligerent.. I respect your opinion. I just wanna enjoy Brother Ali. Tired of people making false comparisons with other artists. Let's just enjoy the music and comment on the artist at hand. Peace
You never let me down, Ali. Your music has always inspired me- if every Muslim is a brother to every other Muslim, you are one of the older brother figures who I look up to. Never give up- Salams and best wishes.
I've always been a huge fan of Brother Ali. He's definitely inspired me in my career. If you get a chance check out the music on my page. Either way this track is ill.
Just because an artist is mainstream doesn't mean they are rubbish. Listen to all their stuff, then make your verdict and conprarisons. Think; they're famous for a reason, maybe it's their art, and not their outrageousness? Don't judge their personalies on ther radio play either, I saw a status from 50 Cent on Facebook a few months back bigging up the Occupy Movement, he wrote about 3 paragraphs, so don't judge people, isn't that what all these artists are trying to tell us?
Hey guys. I'm a poet out of Chicago. It would be greatly appreciated if you were to take five minutes out of your day to check out my work. I hope the right people out there see my stuff and help me realize my dream of making a living with my writing. I hope my words are in inspiration, but you won't know unless you check my channel out.
It is amazing to see that even though Brother Ali is gaining tons of success of late that he does not plan to ease up on substance, and oddly enough im sort of glad to hear that he is trying so hard that it begins to frustrate him. This song is genius like everthing he does. Keep being real!
@doyersfan1 Yeh ! fuck that little wannabe ... Word to rhymesayers , Evidence , Bro Ali and every other conscious rapper/MC doing it for the people not the corporations .
Why you guys even mentioning that guy on here, I'm tired of listening to Hip Hop and reading these comments about someone talking shit about so and so or mentioning a pop artist, this is Brother Ali let's talk about Hip Hop and not some pop rapper, who cares, if you mention or compare w/e you're just showing your ignorance, LET THE IGNORANT BE and ignore them!!
Don't let indie vs mainstream argument skew your listening experience. I listen to mainstream and indie rappers. However, I often have more respect for those doing it independently.
Thumbs up if you think Rhymesayers should get a spot on BET's Cypher next awards show!
Jay-z is one of the best MC's, even in interviews Brother Ali has stated he would love to do a collabo track. The biggest issue with Jay-z is his failure to step outside his boundaries. Some mainstream rappers like Kayne West, Kid Cudi, (To Some degree) Eminem and YellaWolf can do it. I would love any of those guys to extended their hand out to any Rhymesayer + Def Jux + Quannum Projeccts ect. for a collabo track. Although, Kid Cudi got Cage on a track.
WOW true lyrical genius, okay i'm not saying i'm a genius at rap but it would mean alot if you guys check out my song "Don't Leave," tell me what you guys think and if you thought it was good then like this comment
@justBVero TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH. Rap is art and no one artist is perfection. Its all just different shades and ever changing shades at that. Brother ali is definitely an extremely soulful and talented artist. Cant wait for the album. #stophatin
There is no *greatest rapper* every rappers got there status because they have talent just rappers appeal to different audiences rap has many genres and artist Just listen to them all and respect them all for getting where they are today, Mad props Ali #JustB.
Pure Genius...as Ali has stated in the past - "I splatter patterns of poetic eloquence" Dope record from the top to the very last drop. Can't wait for this album.
@jward803 ditto as fuck. feels like jake's beats are more drum-driven or some shit? I don't know enough about music to articulate it. it's dope though.

Brother Ali sounding like Ass-Z. I take that as an insult. Anyone says that shit should have their Underground Hip-Hop card suspended and then slapped with a Boom Bap Project LP or something across the face, and told to start back at chapter one.
I want the latest comment about this song to be about the song in support for good hip hop! why do we start stupid bickerin over sumones comment..So BROAli I think this is jus a crazy track man! Im never usually in the mood for your music but i gotta say this is prolly up there in tracks i like from you..the passion is touching...especially when u said "im tryna give myself goosebumps" i feel u on that as a fellow rhymer :)
Nah, He does not sound like Jay-z.... If you've heard Ali's previous work/albums, you'll notice the versatility of his flow & how he can adjust his voice to different types of beats. He has the rare ability to switch up the pitch & tone of his voice, which makes him superior with the flow.. Not to mention his lyrical ability is Above and Beyond.
Jay-z is 1-dimensional trash compared to the genius of Brother Ali
I feel ashamed to even mention that name here... Won't happen again
@joojoobomb I respect your opinion.. But I personally don't see the artistry in that guy's work. His lyricism & style are highly overrated, and he offers little versatility. He's been going over the same repetitious subject matter for the past 15 years. (slangin/hoes/cars/vanity/$) I'm not a hater, I know he's considered a pioneer, but IMO, Most of his material falls under the category of Mainstream Hogwash.
Anyway, I salute you & everyone else that supports real hiphop
@Mettmog JayZ is really talented but like he said he dumbed down his lyrics to double his audience! What would you prefer being overrated or underpaid?
@Mettmog I'm a huge fan, but after reading your comment I listened and I think the dude's right, but just on this song. His voice sounds a bit like Jay-Z, but his writing is much better and like you said, this isn't his only voice.
@Mettmog you cant lie tho reasonable doubt was an amazing album. but the current jay z doesnt have anything on brother ali. maybe if he didnt sell out then it would be a different story.
@Mettmog Ali said when he was getting started that he sounded too much like Mos Def. Ant is the one that broke him out of that shell and to start sounding like himself. Also just for you with in that same interview of Ali saying this he also said Jay- Z is in his Top 10 All time MC's. You can find it on youtube.
@TheFunkytownGotcha I've seen all those interviews numerous times. He never mentions that guy in the interview.. so I'm not sure what you're trying to justify. He cites Mos Def, KRS, & Rakim as his major influences... Fuck jay.. he's a materialistic, money-worshipping bitch.. & In terms of lyrical ability & versatility, Ali is far superior. Brother Ali is Hip Hop. Case Closed
@Mettmog that's just part one of the interview. If you've seen the rest like you said you have Numerous times you'd see/hear him say that. Not trying to justify anything other then all rappers emulate those they listen too until they find their own voice. Ali isn't an exception. I agree Ali is a much better lyricist and I prefer his flow over Jay-Z. Clearly Jay has done something right. You don't earn 300 mil being trash. Sick of these Hip Hop elitist thinking only " real "hip hop is underground
@TheFunkytownGotcha Your just a bullshitter.. because in all those interviews he NEVER Mentions that guy Once. He clearly states his influences, and none of them are jay.. so you're argument is invalid.
& I don't know why you're equating the wealth he's earned to his ability. I guess you feel the same way about Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne who have grossed enormous wealth. I guess they 'done something right' too? Sorry pal..I value authenticity and talent.. Not someone's net worth
@Mettmog in other words you didn't watch the rest of them. yes you're right on kid I throw Soulja boy and Wayne right in this group. Are you fucking brain dead?
@TheFunkytownGotcha Lol I watched all them..you're the braindead faggot trying to justify something that never happened... in a phantom video interview you can't even name.. He never said that. Damn.. & you like wayne and soulja.. lol why am I wasting my time responding to a lame insect like you. lol Just enjoy your music.. don't get emotional.
@Mettmog Now look whos getting all emotional. he's the vid fag since you're too braindead to find it or flat out lied about watching it. " Brother Ali on Touring With Rakim " same fucking interview. Where he ranks Jay Z with Rakim and KRS-One. Pull the dicks out of your ears a listen cock sucker.
@TheFunkytownGotcha smh at dumbass kids like you who come on here talking about other artists.. just stfu.. no 1 cares you immature idiot. Get a life. Why aren't the latest comments about how dope this track is!?
@PrinceofGotham12 kid? I'm 32. thanks for adding your 2 cents to a discussion you have no idea what its about. The discussion had nothing to do with the track dumb fuck.
@TheFunkytownGotcha LOL 32 year old ranting over youtube comments.. Shit, I would have guessed you were like 15 judging by the nature of your earlier comments that I saw.. Why are you so angry? Did your mid-life crisis come early? Menopause? Get a life old goof. sheesh
@Mettmog Ya man but what about freeway being on rhymesayers? Ali does a track with him on "US". So don't be ignorant man. Ali most likely does have influence from Jay-Z and I'm sure he listened to all his old shit when he was younger. How do you figure he didn't? He listened to artist such as KRS-One and Rakim, but he didn't listen to Jay-Z. That's just stupid. And I'm sure he didn't listen to Nas either.
Brother Ali is one of the greatest, and is a major influence in the shit I've been working on. I'm one of thousands posting the same comment, but listen to my songs and you will enjoy them. You have no idea what taking a listen, leaving a comment, or liking music that comes from the heart means.
Radio churns out the same played out subject matter; sex, money, cars etc. I've yet to hear a song literally about writers block. So refreshing to see veterans like Ali and Jake One continue to challenge themselves and create music that's real to themselves. The masses might not come to appreciate it, but those that do appreciate it to the fullest.
If u hate on this man then I forgive you for you know not the man, all love to you and yours, you are entitled to your opinion, I feel like he is amazing. That is my view and I deserve it like you do yours, kudos to music!
Best song I've heard from him in awhile. I wasnt feeling a lot of his new shit because he was doing this sing-songy thing with his voice. Good song Brother! Cant wait to hear the new album
I just hope Ali knows that if he can drop this many incredible rhymes and maintain an incredible flow, all focusing on the fact that he can't think of what else to rap about, he's one of the greatest rappers of all time. Keep it up man, much love.
@c4ruski Man your comment just doesn't make sense at all. I'm black and i have all his discography. Think before commenting dumb stuff. Music specially Hip Hop aint about races. Grow up
@MegaMajorDanger its has quite a deeper nuance than that, it highlights struggles of a starving artist and the same ideas can be applied to plenty of situations
Ali is the truest most influential person in my life. The absolute pure untainted voice in this man is one of the few lights of hope we have left in this world...
@mamaaint It's naive that you think there are few lights of hope that we have left in this world. Especially when you're listening to underground music.
The fact that Brother Ali cares so much about putting out something quality proves that he is a rapper worth paying attention to.

I am ashamed as anyone about the current state of things when it comes to his music, I think writing him off as one-dimensional or trash is unfair.
He might not be as thought-provoking as he once was, but to deny the man his dues altogether isn't right.

@Mettmog youtube " Brother Ali on his relationship with Slug and Ant part 1 "
TheFunkytownGotcha 1 week ago

I just hope Ali knows that if he can drop this many incredible rhymes and maintain an incredible flow, all focusing on the fact that he can't think of what else to rap about, he's one of the greatest rappers of all time. Keep it up man, much love.

MegaMajorDanger 1 month ago
@MegaMajorDanger fellini's 8 1/2 was all about writer's/creative block and that's one of the greatest films ever made. however, to each his/her own.
PentagramSchematic 1 month ago
@MegaMajorDanger its has quite a deeper nuance than that, it highlights struggles of a starving artist and the same ideas can be applied to plenty of situations

@mamaaint It's naive that you think there are few lights of hope that we have left in this world. Especially when you're listening to underground music.
