That guitar/string/recording setup sounds amazing.
Following recommendation, I'm about to change the factory strings on my Fender CD140SCE to some light Martin & Co bronze 80/20 (the new fingerstyle SP's) and checked out your video to get an idea of how 80/20 bronze strings sound before I cut off the strings that I've been happy with thus far. I can't imagine my $600 Fender is going to sound as good as the $4000 Taylor you used for this recording when I put the strings on, but here's hoping!
wow! what a sound! very nice! but i wondering if behringer mic200 can be that good..im planning to buy it for my vocal on shure sm57..i hope u can post vocal cover using that mic preamp..tq..
i've bought an 814ce and I love it ! I still try out all the guitars at the music store and i am happy to get home and play my guitar . This demo sounds amazing !makes me wanna practice !
So you are micing it, not using the Expression system, right? and also, could you post a video of the guitar with just the expression system? Im curious to hear how well it responds, and I'd like to take out the veriable of mic positioning because I'm really considering putting my entire bank acount into this, that sound blew me away
This guitar sounds amazing! I used to like the gibsons a lot because I hear artist use it a lot but these taylors are just amazing! This model has got to be my favorite one. I like the regular tan looking ones though.
Wow, sounds awesome! You have same style as me, and almost the same guitar... i have taylor 414 ce! :D I can play almost every song you played so we have the same musicstyle for sure! ;) One question, i'm gonna get something to record with, is the sm81 good, what else do i need? Because i can't record with just a microphone?
@tomanu7 hello! with just one mic you can do a lot of things. just make sure you have a good mic preamp if you want to record with quality audio. i liked my sm81, but you can also use large diaphragm condenser mic. do some experiment with the mic placement to capture the natural guitar sound that you prefer. also learn how to mix, add effects, etc. a lot of good people do tutorials here in youtube. Thanks!
Wow, sounds awesome! You have same style as me, and almost the same guitar... i have taylor 414 ce! :D I can play almost every song you played so we have the same musicstyle for sure! ;)
Wow! sounds just perfect!! I really like your music style!
If I were ready to pay $3000 for an acoustic electric guitar I would buy this Taylor without any doubt..!
It's just interesting me, Is it the regular edition of 814ce, or any limited edition? Can you tell me in which year yours was made? It also has a good sounds when recording plugged in?
Thanks in advance, I'm considering a purchase of a used one.. :)
@YuvalAS hi! mine is a 2008 model / regular. the sound works well with good equipment (plugged or unplugged). i would suggest good preamp. just set everything right (referring to the settings, applying effects, etc) thanks!
@YuvalAS How much would you spend on a trip to Europe or somewhere? what do you get out of it? This guitar lasts a lifetime and it's actually cheaper that a 2 week vacation.;
@van1980 That's why I had a vacation in Europe only once in my life. I don't understand how you think that it's the same cost as a trip to Europe. This guitar is about $2900, in my country it's $4000. A vacation to Europe for 2 weeks is no more than $1000. Believe me, I checked it.
There's something in what you say, that a guitar is something that lasts forever, while a vacation is just wasted, and then nothing.
I really want this guitar, that's why I'm looking for an used one. Finally I'll get1
@YuvalAS You're so full of shit, I don't know what part of Europe you're talking about, but you obviously never went there. A 2 week vacation for $1000? You should start your own travel agency, cause that's ridiculously cheap. A plane ticket from the U.S. to Amsterdam costs about $600, so you'll barely have 30 bucks a day to spend on a hotel, food, drinks, etc. which is by far not enough. When I go to France or Italy, which is practically next door for me, I spend more than that and I go by car
@ZildjianGretsch Yes, you're right. A ticket from the US to Amsterdam really costs about $600. But who has told you that I live in the US? A ticket from my country to Amsterdam is exactly $179 in July-August. So now I guess you have $60 a day. A 3-level hotel room for single, is about $30, so you have the other $30 for food and drinks (nobody drinks EVERY day, so it's not really that limited). And you don't have to go by any word. Lets say $1500 is enough and more. N I've been in Amsterdam btw.
Pardon my ignorance, I immediatley assumed you were from the states when I read that dumbass statement. FYI Amsterdam is currently on spot 30 most expensive hotels in the world, a room averaging at 115 euro's per day, which is ~$165 current rate. It went up 8% this year so I'm guessing you went there in what 1987? No fucking way you'll find a room for that kind of money nowadays.
BTW you live in a poor country, the average income here is 2500 euro's ~$3584 and an 814CE is $4155 here
@ZildjianGretsch Where do you live in Europe? Anyway I live in Israel, which is absolutely not a poor country. And let me remind you that it includes all the kind of people: teens, overaged, disabled and so on. And based on what can you say that it's $3584? It's really high, try to google "average salary in X" maybe you'll be surprised. And it's not the everyone and me earn the average. People I know most commonly earn at least twice. And many things here are cheaper than in Europe.
I live in Amsterdam and the $3584,- average is based on government records, unlike your corrupt country we actually keep track of what people earn and pay tax accordingly. The average income in your country is $2183,-, so Israel is definitely much poorer than The Netherlands. We could save Greece from going bankrupt on our own!
@ZildjianGretsch First of all I want to make sure you don't think we're in competition or something like that.. Then I'm going to what I wanted to say.. Poority isn't measured ONLY by average income, but also by how cheap/expensive is to live there.. These things can't be done on one leg, but have to be checked and then analyzed wisely. What we both, as it seems, can't do by our own. And btw poority is also a matter of relatively. We've been on the map for only 62 years while netherland for 181
@YuvalAS and just sayin'.. We're not a corrupted country, and our government has records on salaries as well as you. If not more. We're all taxes payers so the country must know how much she gets from taxes.
We have the authority for taxes which is in charge of all of these things..
@ZildjianGretsch And btw, If you didn't understand, the all thing about a vacation to Europe's cost is only for comparison. Anyway, Taylor 814ce costs $4700 here.
The average monthly salary here is $1500. Would you work 3 whole months for an acoustic guitar? And I haven't already talked about paying for living, which is really expensive here. There are priorities in life, and you talk like a child.
My parents keep telling me Taylors are fads. They keep telling me to keep thinking of getting Martins. Really, I don't like the pickups on the Taylors, as I personally perfer Fishman Aura equipment. I wish I could try some more Taylors. What are your thoughts?
hi! thanks for asking.for unplugged no question, taylors are good sounding guitars. 2nd using the ES, in my own personal experience the ES is a sweet sounding pick-up along with the choice of woods (rosewood cedar top or sitka spruce top, etc) to bring the natural sound of this guitar you need to learn techniques in order to set things RIGHT,a good quality gears (mixer, interface, daw, condenser instrument mic, balanced cables, etc) mostly the soul for achieving a good quality sound. :P
I have a 2007 Taylor 420 CE All Koa with the 9V ES System and it sounds alright but not great plugged into an acoustic amplifier. Unplugged, it sounds sweet as can be. Any advice on how to tweek the ES system for a much more sparkly full sound that will turn heads. From my experience, the ES sounds tinny, brassy, and thin at times no matter the amount of EQing I do. I have a 2002 Pre-ES Taylor 910 CE that I prefer to play over my 420 CE due to the FIshman Prefix Pickup sounding much better.
@Stillfaith209 actually really depends on the equipment used and brand usually, for live or studio application. try using a guitar/mic preamp or m'cing your guitar to get the sweetness of the sound. i record my guitar directly to my DAW without an amp. then from there i can do stuff and experiment, add effects if needed. a good equipment helps bring out the tone of the ES.
@LelouchLamperouge019 one more thing, the sound you hear in youtube might not be the same as the master file before they upload their vids, better try it yourself, take some time, visit your nearest music stores. :P
@LelouchLamperouge019 I've tried Taylors of all types, Larrivees, Martins, etc. Each has a different sound. I found my dream guitar in a local luthiers' shop. Blows away any of the above that I have tried. One thing is that these are all factory products. The name wasn't that big a deal. I sold my beautiful Larrivee to buy this FANTASTIC local guitar. It really sounds like what I imagine heaven to be!! Just a thought. Do what feels right, brother musician!! :-)
@mingofilaz It is from a local luthier. His name is John LaCroix. I was sold the first time I played it. It really has a life of its own. My suggestion to anyone is this: Play all kinds of guitars from all kinds of builders. I know it is cliche but every guitar sounds different! Buy the one that really catches you.
Hi ! I've watched this video, and I'm asking myself one thing : is there a XLR output on your guitar, with the Jack output? I have a guitar that have both, XLR and Jack, and like there's two ways (condensator mic and piezo), you have a better sound with a XLR/XLR , cause you hear the mic more than with the Jack. I need an electric-acoustic guitar, and all I've read about the Expression System was good things. Even when I listen to your video, I find that the sound is good.Did you plug it?Thks.
@lorenzino1 hi there! Cable used (TRS / XLR) or guitar output = TRS to XLR balance direct input to mixer, etc. The guitar is plugged in direct to my recorder and used a condenser mic for much detailed tone. but this setting isn't final yet. i recently upgraded my stuff. thanks!
@bozone1234 hi! sorry for the late reply. yes, i'm using a condenser mic together with the guitar EQ direct to my digital recorder (Zoom multitrack digital recorder) thanks!
@ento59 hi! i would suggest to plug your guitar and then use a condenser instrument mic for much better and detailed tone. try to experiment until you find the tone that fits your music. cheers!
i love how airy rosewood is. i personally own a 914ce with an engleman spruce top and the new expression system. try recording you guitar with 2 condenser mics set up in an XY pattern. great sounds. simply amazing
@joshuarugg hi! great 914ce really like this model and thanks for that set up suggestion and soon i will post new vids, i'm just waiting for my new mixer and DAW. thanks! cheers!
Sounds great! My friend mentioned this to me. Veeeerrryy interested in that now~ And I like the taste in your music haha. I've played / sang almost every single song you've played in this video hahaha!!!
@winslim21 I just re strung my gibson j 45 (spuce/indian rosewood) to Ernie ball slinky coat light mediums 12- 54 Phospher Bronze, and it sounds Unbelievable. I used to use elixir, but they make too much finger noise.
@82markyboy well, that's good news! i havn't tried any other brands yet coz i still have extra pack of elixir string. u can always try other brands 'til u find the best tone for your guitar. dnt 4get to wipe it with string cleaner every after use to maintain freshness. cheers! :P
Its a bit scray, because you like the exact same things as me^^
The 814ce is my favourite guitar (but can't afford...), i also play Nanoweb Light Gauge Elixirs and many of the song you played here are favourits of mine :)
I also play lots of these songs, so perhaps we are cognate :D
So friend, great video, great guitar, great songs, thumbs up!
@ParthusWarit thanks a lot dude! i'm aiming to post all of the songs played here in full cover, maybe step by step using the the 814ce and 714ce. yeah, too expensive for this hobby! i just woke up one day had both of these beside me.. kidding! thanks again!
And I have to say thanks again, because you brought me to the song Crash Into Me, and now I play it all the time :D Great tune!
Knew it from Boyce Avenue. They are the best band of the world btw^^ I started playing guitar because of them and hear their music all the time. They do exactly this style of Acoustic music, so if you don't already know them, check'em out. I swear that you would love them too :)
Yeah, a comparison with the 714ce would be great, too :D
Thanks, I'll let you know when I get one I like. Apparently you have to try and match up the Taylor expression system with the amp etc. i've tried looking to see if Taylor recommend one but can't find any info
Thanks! No amps.. direct recording through Zoom Mrs (Multitrack digital recorder) im not familiar yet with amps / brand best for acoustic application. try checking for great reviews before deciding to buy.
Sorry i really don't know the chords, i just listen/watch and play. pls try checking channels who do tutorials here in youtube. just type the song+ tutorial. thanks!!!
I think its on the persons preference of his own tone, its his own quality of sound. But correct use of software and all the recording stuff really makes a lot of difference. Great sound and Great recording! \m/ NICE!
in my own opinion, Guitars by model sounds all the same.. big diff is the PRESENTATION:
- how they record the instrument
- the software/recorder used
- setting up the right tone
- tuning, ETC
i admit this may not be the best recording yet for me, im still trying to experiment, play around with my zoom. soon i will post new videos and share some basic techniques on recording.
That is an amazing sounding guitar man! Did you only mic the guitar or did your also direct input into your zoom? That is such a great sound! I dont think I have miced anything that good yet and I use the same, sm81's~!
Thanks man! the sm81 requires phantom power, right? in order that i could use the xlr input for the guitar without turning on the zoom phantom power, instead i used my behringer mic200 ultra gain tube for the sm81 coz it has phantom power. i did such a thing so that it wont damage the taylor expression system..
but i noticed this isn't the best audio setting yet, i still need to experiment.. thanks again!
Oh, okay! I just asked cause I notice that the zoom has Hi-Z Guitar Input. My mixing board also has the same, so I tend to use a phantom powered sm81 with the direct input to the Hi-Z. Regardless though, your sound is amazing, so I wouldn't change a thing! Makes me want to go mess around with mic setting and skip the direct guitar input!

@lorenzino1 hi there! Cable used (TRS / XLR) or guitar output = TRS to XLR balance direct input to mixer, etc. The guitar is plugged in direct to my recorder and used a condenser mic for much detailed tone. but this setting isn't final yet. i recently upgraded my stuff. thanks!

@TheDescent100 Thanks for ur replying, I'll take into account ur advice =)

love the 'Dare You To Move' part , are you using a Condenser Mic or are you using an Audio Interface to record it into your computer or laptop?
bozone1234 1 year ago
@bozone1234 hi! sorry for the late reply. yes, i'm using a condenser mic together with the guitar EQ direct to my digital recorder (Zoom multitrack digital recorder) thanks!

Hey i got one question. Is it better recording plugged or unplugged with the taylor? Thx
ento59 1 year ago
@ento59 hi! i would suggest to plug your guitar and then use a condenser instrument mic for much better and detailed tone. try to experiment until you find the tone that fits your music. cheers!

What is the difference between the Taylor 914ce and the 814ce? Which is better?
OMGOSHitsJoseph 1 year ago
@OMGOSHitsJoseph
probably just different wood or just more abalone
xaznguitaristx 1 year ago
Ah, just noticed, that you already have a comparison vid between the 714 and the 814 :D
Thank you for this, too :)
Which one do you prefer? I think that I like the brighter tone of the 814. But of course both great guitars.
Wanna send me one to Germany? xD

what size of string is best for this guitar?
quintano20 1 year ago
@quintano20 I'm using an elixir brand light guage nanoweb.
winslim21 1 year ago
@winslim21 I just re strung my gibson j 45 (spuce/indian rosewood) to Ernie ball slinky coat light mediums 12- 54 Phospher Bronze, and it sounds Unbelievable. I used to use elixir, but they make too much finger noise.
82markyboy 1 year ago
@82markyboy well, that's good news! i havn't tried any other brands yet coz i still have extra pack of elixir string. u can always try other brands 'til u find the best tone for your guitar. dnt 4get to wipe it with string cleaner every after use to maintain freshness. cheers! :P

Hey!
This video ist soo great.
ParthusWarit 1 year ago
@ParthusWarit thanks a lot dude! i'm aiming to post all of the songs played here in full cover, maybe step by step using the the 814ce and 714ce. yeah, too expensive for this hobby! i just woke up one day had both of these beside me.. kidding! thanks again!
winslim21 1 year ago
@winslim21

Glenn
glh1956 2 years ago
Great sound, what amp do you use? I have the exact same guitar and looking for a acoustic amp - someone recommended a marshal ac100 with a taylor?
glh1956 2 years ago
Thanks! No amps.. direct recording through Zoom Mrs (Multitrack digital recorder) im not familiar yet with amps / brand best for acoustic application. try checking for great reviews before deciding to buy.

I just listened to the 716 video, huge difference!
Skicolorado75 2 years ago
in my own opinion, Guitars by model sounds all the same.. big diff is the PRESENTATION:
- how they record the instrument
- the software/recorder used
- setting up the right tone
- tuning, ETC
i admit this may not be the best recording yet for me, im still trying to experiment, play around with my zoom. soon i will post new videos and share some basic techniques on recording.

That is an amazing sounding guitar man! Did you only mic the guitar or did your also direct input into your zoom? That is such a great sound! I dont think I have miced anything that good yet and I use the same, sm81's~!
nmon1 2 years ago
Thanks man! the sm81 requires phantom power, right? in order that i could use the xlr input for the guitar without turning on the zoom phantom power, instead i used my behringer mic200 ultra gain tube for the sm81 coz it has phantom power. i did such a thing so that it wont damage the taylor expression system..
but i noticed this isn't the best audio setting yet, i still need to experiment.. thanks again!
winslim21 2 years ago
Oh, okay! I just asked cause I notice that the zoom has Hi-Z Guitar Input. My mixing board also has the same, so I tend to use a phantom powered sm81 with the direct input to the Hi-Z. Regardless though, your sound is amazing, so I wouldn't change a thing! Makes me want to go mess around with mic setting and skip the direct guitar input!
nmon1 2 years ago
Wow awesome!!! how did you record it? did you use the pickup or just with microphones? greets from switzerland
Revocratic 2 years ago 2
Thanks! im using the on board expression system accompanied with sm81 mic direct to my multi track recorder panning it 60% L/R.
