Anyone who can defeat Gill is a champion in my eyes. Hes probably one of the hardest bosses ever in a fighting game(that ressurection move makes him even harder) it took me a long time to finally beat him. Congratz on kicking his ass.
lol, I hate Gill's Angel of Death Super! There's a few moments in the match where you could connected with the Powerbomb, which would've made the fight quicker to win.
As for me, the best way I found out to beat Gill when I was in doubt was to pick Chun-Li and then spam on holding Back and Fierce. He kept running into it! X D
I don't know if this has been noted already (and I'm not reading four years of posts to find out) but when you beat Gill it was after enough continues for the game to auto-drop the difficulty. You can tell by his taunt in the second round after he knocks you down. He NEVER taunts when not auto-dropped down after continuing enough. Nonetheless, impressive victory. And Gill is still insanely tough, regardless.
The first character I barely beat him with was Akuma and I stumbled upon interrupting that resurrection super by accident. But I failed on that round because I didn't close in on him and he did the wing rainbow super and killed me. "Kneel before your MASTER> MASTER> MASSSSSTTTTTEEEERRRR.
@CubKulAid Yeah, I didn't know you could cancel it until I'd been playing 3S for quite a while. Alex is one of the best characters for it, as an FP Flash Chop knocks him out of the Resurrection. If you get it in with the right timing, you can follow up with an Elbow Dash -> Stun Gun Headbutt -> FP Flash Chop -> Powerbomb combo to finish him without even having a fight.
@ThunderousWrath In fact, if you pay attention, you can see me TRYING to do that combo and goofing up the first Flash Chop, letting him regenerate more health. I still hate him after all these years!
Speaking of final boss acheivement, has anyone played a SNK game? I must've sat for an entire hour trying to defeat rugal at the end of kof 2002. But I beat him. Kyo K' and Benimaru.
@galladekirby64 Seth was a pain when you had to playthrough with characters you hate, but he isn't as bad as Gill. Also, never knew you could stop his ressutection.
@purplejim8 If I had to choose a single forgotten SF3 character to bring back, it would be Alex (though I'm obviously an Alex fan). Remy would be in my top three, though.
I too hate Gill, but, uh... according to your score counter, including the continue during the vid, you continued 16 times... after a certain number of continues Gill's difficulty decreases (why they never did that with Seth, I'll never know.) I could tell that this got to a certain difficulty because on 1 or 2 stars, Gill will start laughing like a dick when you're far away or he knocks you down. So, while I admire your mettle, I wll say that it gets ten times harder if you didn't continue.

@Xytos It's confusing to me when people think the video is fake; why the hell would I post a fake video? If it were fake I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of recording, editing, and posting it -- it would be completely meaningless. I posted this video back in 2009 and followed it since, reading every comment anyone ever left and frequenly responding. But you're right, that's OBVIOUSLY just a ploy to convince Youtubers that I'm good at a decade-old game I don't even play anymore.
@PlayingWithMahWii You're right, it was 2007. Crazy to think of how long ago that was... I used to play 3S pretty much obsessively, but all my friends at the time were into CvS2. The result is that I played a LOT of 3S's Arcade Mode, since no one wanted to play with me, meaning I fought Gill about a bizillion times a week since it was so tough to beat him and had to keep rematching. This was just bound to happen eventually; I was lucky to be recording.

i remember playing this in college and i let my friends borrow it (dreamcast version) ....i walk into their room a few days later adn they completely dominated gill with akuma...i was like wtf
all they did was the hurricane kick and i was like "man that's so cheap" and they said "yeah but he's easy"
funny thing is that they never could beat me in the game no matter who they used..so i assumed teh akuma thing is a glitch in the game since all you have to do is time it just right each time
@vanchai1 The only AI character I can consistently dominate is Sean. Depending on how far away he is, he will always attempt the same handful of attacks... On ANY difficulty... I always mount up a huge numbers of parries and punish him for everything he does. My friends who don't know there's a trick to it are like, "Dude, WHAT?"

Not a parry. That was a Tech Throw, also known as a Throw Break. In 3S, when your opponent tries for a throw, if you hit LP+LK (the same buttons you'd use for a throw) with the correct timing, you break the throw animation, take no damage, and in arcade mode, get a small point bonus. Usually occurs as a result of two players going for a throw at the same time.

@lavalion87 I HATE the Xbox controller for fighting games, and I'm too much of a cheapskate to buy those limited edition Genesis-style 6-button pads or arcade sticks (which are usually around $100 or more). My Alex isn't NEARLY as good against human opponents... Jeez, these days I'm so out of practice that it takes a million tries to beat Gill on the default difficulty.
I still have nightmares about Gill but nothing compares to Igniz and the Brutal God Project....even if u have 1hp he makes u ake the entire attack...what an ass
And that's a fact. Seth is beatable, even in Hardest difficulty because his patterns are easily detected and can be countered constatnly. I'll never understand why people have trouble with him when he's basically a punching bag of a boss. Not SNK Boss worthy and will never be that way.
But Gill... yeah, I'd say he got his place in the pantheon well in hand.
@AlexxShadenk777 If this were anybody but Gill, things would be different. He's taunted me a few times, I'm guessing because it lowers his stun meter... I go for the throw because he's gotten out of the animation and combo'd me in the past while I was starting up my own combo. The way I see it, if you're actually managing to rushdown on Gill and do damage, play it safe.

@Ihatethisshitcalled He doesn't need to grab. Some of the best players don't use certain characters for their signature fighting styles. I play Ken and I avoid Shor[H] and hadokens.
@mrc481 Seeing as not using part of a character's moveset would basically be a hindrance rather than an asset, I'd say you shouldn't. I could understand if all you do is spam said skills all day, but Alex is a heavy grab based character if you can take advantage of that. (And ontop of that, he pretty much spammed his super all day.) To not use those assets is like tying both your hands behind your back and saying you can just win by headbutting someone to death.
@Ihatethisshitcalled Basically I DID tie both of my hands behind me and headbutt Gill to death. You can say I don't know how to grab... Whatever. When I play a HUMAN BEING, I exlploit the shit out of Alex's throws, particularly the FP Powerbomb and LK spinning DDT. I've learned my lesson about just trying to nail 'bombs on Gill... He just pokes his way out every damned time. The frame-perfect timing of the ridiculous AI precludes lots of heavy-damage throws on ANY dfficulty.
@AgrivatedKillah Gill doesn't have a tier, as he is not legal for play in tournaments. The best I can answer this question is to say that Gill is not top tier -- he's ABOVE top tier. If S is the highest tier, he's S-plus.

He's really THAT cheap? the cheapest 2D fighting games bosses i fought is Igniz from King of Fighters 2001 and Shin M.Bison from Street Fighter Alpha 3 that fucking cheap asshole who likes to spam his cheap Psycho Crusher.

@HIGH777ROLLER Between Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Gouken I doubt they'll introduce Sean as a playable in the next SF4 update for fear of overburdening the cast with Shoto-clones (even though I think everybody wants it). I'd actually pay money for the next SF if it has Alex, and Sean would be big bonus points. Now that Sakura versus Makoto can finally happen, I want Sakura versus Sean -- Ryu's protege versus Ken's, you know?

@HIGH777ROLLER I have beaten the game with Sean a few times, although probably not at this difficulty setting. Sean is actually my favorite character to use after Alex... He's terrible, but a blast to use against human players if you can get some mind games going with his somersaults. And taunting constantly to hit them with basketballs.

At the start of the match, try sweeping. It usually hits and when you turtle, throw out sweeps and it hits too...
Or you can just use makoto and spam charged dash punch

i remember playing this in college and i let my friends borrow it (dreamcast version) ....i walk into their room a few days later adn they completely dominated gill with akuma...i was like wtf
all they did was the hurricane kick and i was like "man that's so cheap" and they said "yeah but he's easy"
funny thing is that they never could beat me in the game no matter who they used..so i assumed teh akuma thing is a glitch in the game since all you have to do is time it just right each time

@vanchai1 The only AI character I can consistently dominate is Sean. Depending on how far away he is, he will always attempt the same handful of attacks... On ANY difficulty... I always mount up a huge numbers of parries and punish him for everything he does. My friends who don't know there's a trick to it are like, "Dude, WHAT?"

Not a parry. That was a Tech Throw, also known as a Throw Break. In 3S, when your opponent tries for a throw, if you hit LP+LK (the same buttons you'd use for a throw) with the correct timing, you break the throw animation, take no damage, and in arcade mode, get a small point bonus. Usually occurs as a result of two players going for a throw at the same time.

@lavalion87 I HATE the Xbox controller for fighting games, and I'm too much of a cheapskate to buy those limited edition Genesis-style 6-button pads or arcade sticks (which are usually around $100 or more). My Alex isn't NEARLY as good against human opponents... Jeez, these days I'm so out of practice that it takes a million tries to beat Gill on the default difficulty.

And that's a fact. Seth is beatable, even in Hardest difficulty because his patterns are easily detected and can be countered constatnly. I'll never understand why people have trouble with him when he's basically a punching bag of a boss. Not SNK Boss worthy and will never be that way.
But Gill... yeah, I'd say he got his place in the pantheon well in hand.

@AlexxShadenk777 If this were anybody but Gill, things would be different. He's taunted me a few times, I'm guessing because it lowers his stun meter... I go for the throw because he's gotten out of the animation and combo'd me in the past while I was starting up my own combo. The way I see it, if you're actually managing to rushdown on Gill and do damage, play it safe.
Also, nice to hear from you. Been a long time since the days of DMC3...

@mrc481 Seeing as not using part of a character's moveset would basically be a hindrance rather than an asset, I'd say you shouldn't. I could understand if all you do is spam said skills all day, but Alex is a heavy grab based character if you can take advantage of that. (And ontop of that, he pretty much spammed his super all day.) To not use those assets is like tying both your hands behind your back and saying you can just win by headbutting someone to death.

When I play a HUMAN BEING, I exlploit the shit out of Alex's throws, particularly the FP Powerbomb and LK spinning DDT. I've learned my lesson about just trying to nail 'bombs on Gill... He just pokes his way out every damned time. The frame-perfect timing of the ridiculous AI precludes lots of heavy-damage throws on ANY dfficulty.

@AgrivatedKillah Gill doesn't have a tier, as he is not legal for play in tournaments. The best I can answer this question is to say that Gill is not top tier -- he's ABOVE top tier. If S is the highest tier, he's S-plus.

Funny enough, when I beat "Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike" for the first time in "Street Fighter Anniversary Collection," I was using Ken to mop up the floor with everybody (not on the hardest setting, though), but Alex was the unlikely hero for me. And damn... I was pissed that I beat Gill in two rounds, until he was resurrected. Went to full health, and beat the hell out of me. Funny video! Now if only I could beat Bison in Street Fighter Alpha 3 without his damned super Psycho Crusher...

@HIGH777ROLLER Between Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Gouken I doubt they'll introduce Sean as a playable in the next SF4 update for fear of overburdening the cast with Shoto-clones (even though I think everybody wants it). I'd actually pay money for the next SF if it has Alex, and Sean would be big bonus points. Now that Sakura versus Makoto can finally happen, I want Sakura versus Sean -- Ryu's protege versus Ken's, you know?

@HIGH777ROLLER I have beaten the game with Sean a few times, although probably not at this difficulty setting. Sean is actually my favorite character to use after Alex... He's terrible, but a blast to use against human players if you can get some mind games going with his somersaults. And taunting constantly to hit them with basketballs.
