@Puzzoozoo depends on the projectile and what your shooting at. This 220gr RN would be fine on a medium deer sized animal to about 250y. I shoot my .338 whisper 300gr pill on paper out to 1000y. Its not really an issue of energy or making it to the target, just mastering the rainbow like trajectory of a sub round. The sub projectile kills by tumbling as it is very long, a tumbling 300gr projectile it the equivalent to 3 times cal expansion in a projectile half its weight at supersonic speed.
@Dellster13 Yes and yes they can.. your VTR has a 1-12 twist rate so you will be able to shoot up to the 220gr round nose projectiles without getting tumbling issues.
@Dellster13 yea it can but its a bit more work.. You would have to relive your stock a bit and make a custom bush to fit over the barrel, would be a shame to do that to a vtr, better to get a std rem 700 to cut up. Give Gary Macoll at MAE a ring and he will quote you. If not try Robbie Tiffan at Gun works, He also does a nice full barrel suppressor.
Who did you fully suppressed barrel SRT Arms in AZ by chance? Thats who did my 77/44 and I love it. I am thinking of buying this rifle and will have this done to it as well.
@pinselplins@pinselplins Maybe your rifle needs checking out? I'd say it has a problem that could be easily sorted out by a gunsmith or the Blaser service team.
Sorry that I'm bothering you with some questions here but I'm wondering what twist rate you have on the rifle. If I got it right you're shooting both 180s and 240s and are you getting small groups with it? Thanks
@krullvid No bother at all... the twist rate is 1-10, shooting 180gr and 220gr RN, you would need a 1-8 twist to stabilize the 240gr's at sub speeds.. even 220gr's are marginal, round noses are better than spitzers as they stabilize easier.
@howz5 Okey have you tried the 240s? Could do so much diffrence in precision with a 1-8 twist rate? I will be able to shoot som trashbirds here in sweden so I will use some varmint bullets around 130gr?
@krullvid no I haven't tried the 240s in this rifle but I do shoot them in my .300 whisper and you NEED a 1-8 twist to stop them tumbling end over end.
these trash birds you speak of sound like a fun day out.. yea I'd go with some Hornady 110gr VMAX or some 130gr varmint hollow points... oh and make sure you video it and post it here as a video response to my vid! : )
@howz5 Okey, Oh yes I will post a video when I built my .308 complete! Do you have some tip for getting my bullets to sub velocities? Powder? filler? I'm livin in sweden so the powders I can use is Norma and vihtavouri?
Hey, I have a quick question to ask! I am looking to buy one of these rifles, and I can't decide if the extra cost of the rifle AND ammo (considering I won't be reloading for now) for the 338 lapua is worth it, over the 308? Do you ever wish that you were shooting the 338 and not the 308? Or is the 308 plenty? I mean reaching 1000yds, velocity, etc. Think I will be ok with the 308? thanks!
I love my 308s and would always choose this cal over any thing else, ive shot the 338 a bit but there really is no advantage over the 308 to 1000yds other than less windage with a 300gr pill. You will get an extra 500-800yds reach with the 338 but not many people or rifles can shoot 1800yds accurately anyway and you will need some serious optics with heaps of elivation adjustment (more cost). So really it comes down to just what you want to do with your rifle.
Well in that case, the 308 seems perfect for my needs! :) I don't really want to shoot past 1000yds right away (it will be my first tactical rifle purchase).
Sorry bout that I was just trying to get as much info as I can dont really now any1 I could ask about this stuff didn't mean to waste ur time thanks a bunch :)
with a wind meter or indicators at 100 y intervals.. dude, I'm not in the business of training snipers over you tube, spend some time on Google or buy a good book to learn the basics, then get out to a range and shoot it till it wears out, then replace it and shoot some more.. good luck
Yes it does, total drop depends on lots of things Velocity, Bullet Wt ,Bullet BC, Altitude,Temperature Scope Hight, your rifles Zero Range, Wind Speed etc etc
the average drop of a .435bc 168gr pill doing 2800fps at 1000yards is 37.2 moa or 389 inches if zeroed at 100y. so you will need a scope that can cope with at least 40 moa of elevation.
So u seem like u know what ur talking about I just started getting into guns and have a lot of questions like I said below I just turned 18 but I own a .22 and was looking for some thing with a lot more accuracy range and power don't get me wrong I love the .22 but just to hose around iv been seriously looking into the .308 minni windrunner by EDM I was wondering if u could help
oh yes the windrunner... what id give to own one of those in 408 or 50bmg! sadly they wont export one for me.. my advice is learn to shoot with a .308 and get to know it to 1000 yards. If you still crave more of shoulder punishing range lets say 2000yds, go for the 408 or 50bmg. Both very expensive to feed and not many places you can use them to their full potential but loads of fun.
need I some help I was told the top three cartiges for a sniper rifle are the .308 .338 lapua/ .408 cheytac and the .50 is this true. ( talking mostly accuracy and power )and what would the cartriges b4 those b any1 know
So wait what ur just said that a sub load will pierce body armor better than supersonic loads ???? U positive I mean I'm not one to argue but I just started getting into riflery and that's something I didn't know
correct, with the correct payload a sub 308 round can penetrate armor / car bodies/ windscreens like nothing else where even a .50bmg will have the the occasional failure.
A high velocity bullet has the tendency to explode on impact or mushroom and veer off target. google .510 whisper.. its a subsonic 1000y rifle with some serious energy!
I mean I could see if it were close quarters and it had to be done quietly but that close it wouldn't matter cause a bullet will kill even subsonic loads not that theywouldnt at a distance it would just b more difficult
the military adopted the whisper loads for special opps missions, besides doing the job quietly they out preform any pistol round weapon like the mp5 in every way. they chamber ar15s in 300 whisper. the other thing a sub does that a super wont is pierce body armor and vehicles etc the bullets dont expand like a supersonic round will instead it tumbles on impact creating very large wounds.
So what your saying is that while it is reduced quite a bit it still hits hard but not as hard as say a normal load or even a supersonic load I just can't understand I'm not trying to be a smart ass but isn't the .308 up a sniper round and while I do understand the importance of staying hiden wouldn't a sniper need that extra umph to make sure that bullet makes it 600+ yards
yes it still his hard because it fires a 240gr pill instead of the std 144gr sniper load.. more weight =more energy. this would still hit a target at 600y but the corrective elevation needed makes it impractical. For this reason it is a short range round only.
Wouldn't this kinda ruin the point of a large cal rifle considering that the bullet has to remain under 1000 fps to be subsonic so kinda just an expensive .22
no not at all, research whisper rifles.. the the 240gr Sierra Matchking tumbling over lengthwise is equivalent to a seven times caliber expansion! These high ballistic coefficient projectiles retain energy as well as sub MOE accuracy out to 250 yards & more.
While the bullet leaves the muzzle at 1040 fps, at 100 yards it loses only 3%, traveling at 1011fps & at 200 yards it still keeps on motoring with a solid 984fps. As velocity is retained, so is the energy; muzzle 576 ft/lbs, 100 yards 544 ft/lbs & 200 yards 517 ft/lbs. Only beyond 250 yards does the energy start to drop below the 500 ft/lbs mark. The average .22 shoots a 32gr projectile at 1138fps 92 ft/lbs at 100y.. you do the maths..
Ok I've always wondered how much of a difference subsonic ammo vs standard makes a difference in muzzle volocity, fps, but mainly how does it effect the DROP of the bullet over a distance
It is indeed a .308, do you honestly think blaser would make me a custom lrs2 as an air rifle? My advice to you gunna"boy" is stop playing so many video games and do some research (or see my other vids) before posting really dumb remarks on others vids..
Well as a rifle guy and a blazer owner myself with a gemtech sound suppresser i am wondering how ur weapon can be so silent when u have muzzle blast at the end? how ever i do agree that it looks just like mine even down to the lenght of the actionwhen u cock it. and just so yall know subsonic ammo doesnt mean les recoil nore does it mean lower velocity. subsonic is higher velocity as it has to stay subsonic ( faster than speed of sound) nice weapon though. does urs have the mcmillian stock?
just a std lrs2.. no mods other than the suppressor. subsonic actually means that the bullet is slower than the speed of sound. Anything below 1075fps wont get the sonic boom of the sound barrier breaking (the crack you hear from a super sonic projectile) The muzzle blast you see is just gas that escapes the suppressor. with std ammo this rifle sound like a .22 magnum, with sub sonics it is more like an air rifle. And yes, a reduced load subsonic round has far less recoil.
Awesome rifle. I know videos are really bad at reporting firearm noise levels. Whats the sound from that compare to (like, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, air gun?)
Suprisingly the video captured this one well.. its quieter than a .22lr maybe about the same as a 22 suppressed with sub sonic ammo. You will hear the first click in the vid, which was just a dry fire, (the sound of the firing pin) the second was the sub round and you can still hear the firing pin over it along with a mass of air being shifted by the projectile as it departs.. very quiet..
I don't believe it, I mean I do, but I'd have to be there to really believe it. That silenced .308 is nice!!!!

Use subsonic ammunition, and the recoil will be small. Only the sound of subsonic ammunition can be alleviated successfully.
