Covering this song in the band I'm in... Always LOVED James Dewar... I've always been a singing bassist, so guys like Dewar & Lynott were my idols... Wish I could figure out how to simulate the "wind" effect at the end of the song. I think that would knock it out of the park... Oh, and @generationx1966... Well put...
@MrPorsche91730 Oh yeah... Makes me feel grateful to have developed, musically, during a time of such GREAT inspiration... I think things are starting to swing back for the better again though, with serious radio... The inspirational artist are really out there, you just aren't gonna ever hear them on mainstream radio... R.I.P Phil Lynott, and Gary More, and James Dewar...
Been a bassist vocalist all my life... James Dewar, (and Phil Lynott) were my idols as a kid... Now I'm in a new band that is covering some of this stuff again, (a trio of course) and I can't believe the response we're getting when we play this... I thought nobody cared about real music anymore... At least where I am, in s/w Florida... This is what people want to hear...
one that never hear anyone talk about is about to begin ,great song ,saw them in the gym at ucsb journey opened for them ,cool show.cant even remember what year 75 maybe
yeah, robin trower is a great guitar player but I think it's tragic that the singer (James Dewar) didn't get more credit. He was a great blues style singer! R.I.P
First time I heard Robin Trower, was in 1974. I was crusin in the back seat of my big brother's 1969 4 door Chrysler New Yorker. It had a 7.2L, 440-six pack. They were the biggest non -limousine cars on the road. My bro got it dirt cheap (gas shortage). We were completely blown away, when he popped in his new Bridge of Sighs 8 track, without a word of warning. We made him play it 3 times. He grinned, turned it up and passed the doobs . Best limo ride of my life. Thanks bro! May you rest in peace
@skybluemarshall - I like that story. I too have dozens similar and when I hear classics like this I can relive them. It's amazine how we can taste, smell and almost touch memories when we rediscover them through a song. I had a '72 New Yorker in 1994. The most incredible machine on wheels I've ever owned and I miss it dearly. Thanks for the post....RIP to your bro.
I am puzzled as to why there aren't any musicians today that soar like this? It doesn't take a musician to be a rap artist. R&B -- as it is called today falsely -- is made up of vocal gymnastics -- no soul. I KNOW there are young kids out there TRYING to do this Robin Trower thing. I met them. Their's is an uphill climb. I admire them. My nephew is 16 -- listens only to Bob Dylan. It's a shame that young people simply follow what the media says is hot. My generation most certainly did not.
Can you believe there are some people who don't like Jim Dewar's voice? Just utterly utterly perfect, you don't have to scream to put emotion into something for god's sake
Feel the Sadness in the Guitar , and the Heavy drag of the drums . Robin wrote this song thinking of the real Bridge of Sighs in Italy . as the prisoner's crossed the bridge to be hung .it could not be written any better !!!
I saw Trower live several times, twice at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth. Every performance fantastic. Felt not like cold rain but ice in the bone. One of the best ever in a time of giants. Guitarist today are either not nearly as talented or not allowed to show it.
I know people get sick of hearing it but the 70's WAS the era of rock. We can include the late 60's as well. They were the pioneers of rock as we know it today. This music is being created by a band made up of 3 people. Impressive to say the least. I was lucky enough to have seen them in the mid 70's. I can still remember when they played this song, Day Of The Eagle and To Rolling Stoned. And I was. Contact high. Unavoidable, ha-ha. The newer bands need a few lessons from these guys.
ow yes! the awesome rock of the 70s!! todays music is SHIT! no talent rap kiss my ass!! poor kids of today no good music, just rap jerk offs!! kids?? get all the 70s albums you can, listen, study, see the REAL talent!! rock on america
"Where have all the great musicians of the world gone daddy? I know the modern ones suck and that they used to be way better." I am sorry son, you have been deceived by the senile and the faux intellectual, humans haven't been any notable better or worse at producing music in the past 200 years, the only difference is that modern radio is consumed only by the most mainstream of music, which, now that I think about it, is how it was when I was young and probably has been for at least 40 years.
Is that a picture of an infinity symbol in sand dunes at night in the desert? Bridge of Sighs... Orange sunshine, purple microdot, strawberry, window pane, blotter, mescaline, peyote, shroooms...? High school lunch time backgate smorgasboard... when the college chem students and the vietnam vets would pull up and wed all run over and shop for goodies at a buck a hit..............Then wed be all wknd at the beach or up on mtn tops barkin at th moon for no (apparent) reason. This was our anthem.
@mrpemstar Yep, I think your both right. Different cultures, similar meaning. Eternally yours... what goes round comes round. Sometimes you eat the bar ... and sometimes the bar, why it eats you. Peace =)
@DIXIEJEFF That was very well said, my man. I try to use that description when describing such guitarists like Trower, and one of my favs, David Gilmour. Sometimes, just a single, well played note can conjure up an emotion. It's such an incredible feeling. Cheers to you, brother.

That is awesome... I mean, AWESOME! Why is this guy not a superstar??!!
Lady Gaga is my thing but I I am definitely buying this album, (and probably everything else by this guy as well).
Again - why is he not as famous as like Jimi Hendrix? Unbelievable!
