  • This isn't Dubstep, or dubstep influenced... its Industrial, which is WAY better than dubstep will because of originality "oh but dubsteps original" Oh yeah, believe that, that's why the only songs people listen to are remixes.

  • Comment removed

  • No, the drop is called trentstep. There is a difference.

  • THe drop is pretty dupstep i like Dupstep so its all good Trent would prob tell u himself he wanted to dabble in it

  • To all those imagining that this is Dubstep, Please Note THIS IS NOT DUBSTEP, IT'S INDUSTRIAL.

  • 1:58 and god said, let there be dubstep.

  • @snazzypapayas lolwat? Dubstep!? Learn2music |:

  • @TacVideosTac Learn to speak in coherent sentences and then maybe someone of lower intelligence can learn something from you.

  • @snazzypapayas Pheh, I was just kidding. Don't worry, I can speak coherent sentences. But seriously, this isnt Dubstep.

  • @snazzypapayas This is about as dubsteppy as Cornflakes

  • @snazzypapayas You must be new here.

  • this is so much better than the studio version

  • So they didnnt have a drummer on this tour?

  • @mrlee192 Yeah, Josh Freese. He's just not in this video because there's no live drums in this song lol

  • I showed this to a friend of mine and told him to take any of that bubble gum shit out there that call themselves musicians and put them up against this.

  • Trent: "I am the Great Destroyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeer"...then my mind explodes.

  • Fucking Badass

  • Honestly........is there any other industrial band on this level? I'm wondering... and I don't mean to offend but every other industrial band I've heard sounds generic in comparison.... just doesnt have that depth.. that "HOLY SHIT THERE IS A GOD" factor when you blast it through your headphones... don't get me wrong I love COIL/SKiNNY Puppy....... but is there any other band?

  • @GuitarristA1quimista Theres plenty. KMFDM, Frontline Assembly, and Laibach have been doing it way before NIN was even formed.. Then theres also Rammstein, Ministry, Samael, Herrschaft, Zavod, Gothminster, Combichrist, Grendel, God Module, The Kovenant, Eisenfunk, Grotus, Godflesh, Wumpscut, Suicide Commando.

  • @GuitarristA1quimista well I've heard some of these bands weren't to impressed... I'll check out the one's I haven't... thanks

  • @GuitarristA1quimista Not Industrial..........but.........Autechre. These noises where being made in the early 90s. Without them, nothing would be the same. Listen to them. Hard to get into, but mind expanding once youve fallen into the hole....

in the zong 'march of the pigz' he called uz zwedizh fucking pigz,

made me feel zpecial. (then i cry)

  • they put on such a GREAT FUCKING SHOW!!!! wish i were there that night

  • Shit man... I am a huge NIN fan, one who gained extreme passion around 2000 while a part of the failed so-called 'rave' scene. I am still a huge fan of dark electronica genres such as DnB, Dark-step, Dubstep, etc... This track, and in particular this performance, has the craziest, most insane, and by far the greatest 'drop' I have ever heard/witnessed. Amazing.

  • No drummer for this tour?

And somebody PLEASE tell me how he did that incredible vocal harmony at 1:40.

  • @SplinkyStudiosFilms Yes but in this song he use a drum machine. Vocal harmony can be with software like autotunes, but here they are 3 components sing this part for make it.

  • @SplinkyStudiosFilms And it could be a vocal background.

  • @SplinkyStudiosFilms Josh freese

  • really, has to be admitted this is quite good. I didn't know they were pumping out so much quality in their tour middle of 09.

Like the precision of the synchronization of the lights. I want that when I play live.

The music and real-time performance? I've always respected the way trent, of any live-performance electronic musician, balances between the live and the automated,...in this case he lets the sequencing and effects go live and nothing gets lost for talent, IMO. Great stuff.

  • This sounds so different from the album version, like its completely another song

  • God damn...it never fails every time I watch this I get chills so amazing

  • Evrey boddy have a computer and reason and logic and internet, but not have a musician heart to use this mechanical animals.

You are on the stage, or down, but never in a same time.

  • Does anybody know where I can find the version of this song with that sample from Screaming Slave in it?

  • best piece of electrical music i ever heard:O!

  • que mierda es esoo que suena tan locos

  • Comment removed

  • how in the hell did he get that kind of guitar tone?

  • @jamimbi Well, Nine Inch Nails is just fuckin beast like that >:D

  • Who cares what software he uses, isn't the point the final output?

  • AMEN

  • true that, you can create an album for pretty much free now all you need is a computer!

  • 1:57

  • I wish this recording include the HIS breakdown.

  • nine inch nails please destroy my country

  • Any idea what synthesizer was used for the studio version of this song? It's insane. Now I want to add a synthesizer to my group. Please help.

  • I seriously doubt they use any one synth. This is a combination of many many things. I wouldn't be surprised if some of it was custom written software.

  • Yeah. I doubted it was one synth, too. I was wondering if he had one of preferance. Good point. I bet he programs this chaos by himself like the guitarist for Radiohead does.

  • Just from what I recall, Trent uses multiple Native Instruments softsynths (KONTAKT, Guitar Rig 3, ABSYNTH). For studio work, he uses Apple's Garageband and for live work, Ableton Live is his host of choice.

Of them all, ABSYNTH is probably the core of 2:00 onwards since it's probably the best thing to create musical chaos and destruction.

  • Wow. Specific. This is good info. I'll pass it on to my drummer, who wants to also do synth. I'll look at ABSYNTH, because I want chaos and destruction. With all of this specific knowledge, I take it that you are a musician as well, so I wish you luck if that is the case.

  • If you want to get the most bang for your buck with synths, be sure to get a MIDI keyboard with many assignable controls/pads so you can tweak sounds on the fly. Something like the M-Audio Oxygen is a fine tool to use (my keyboard of choice)

NI have audio samples of all their plugins so browse the site and see if anything strikes you.

  • In a couple songs they also use a theramin. That's a pretty funky instrument. I've seen it used in songs like "just like you imagined".

  • The theremin freaks me out. I always see a side view, which is an antenna. I always said, "How in the hell is that an instrument?" Then, I figured it out. That's the instrument I was looking for. Thanks.

  • of course he does not use Garageband as his standard audio editing tool, don't be stupid, he SUPPORTS garageband, it's diferent, now, how could the tracks of fucking NINE INCH NAILS all be made on a simple and limited program without VST/vsti/RTAS support? He uses PROTOOLS as it is also obviously seen in one of the pictures of GHOSTS I-IV.

  • You are an idiot. He uses Garageband as a recorder/mixer once he's laid down the tracks using either Ableton as a host or by using a standalone VST (most of the NI stuff he uses is standalone) and then takes it to Pro Tools for final mastering for the albums themselves.

If you actually thought about it, you'd realise that in this day and age, most VSTi's don't actually need any host at all.

  • he does not use PRO TOOLS for final mastering only, PRO TOOLS is the standard software for all (good) musicians that can afford it, it is the best at production.Garageband is simply too basic for a musician who make complex stuff as Trent himself, just wake up and try to realize, IT IS not possible to use garageband. Also, for Live work 99% of what comes from NIN on stage is MAINSTAGE by Apple, not live.

  • What's interesting is that you just lumped all musicians and recording engineers into one cult-like following. Pro Tools is hardly THE standard. Go to any recording forum, and you'll find a sizable mixture of Logic, Cubase, Digital Performer, Sonar, and Ableton (etc.) users, almost all of which are professionals who can "afford" Pro Tools. It's a matter of what works best for whom and not some join-the-club joke. Creativity, by its very nature, achieves with the given tools.

  • no doubt about the creativity thing. i use a stand alone vs-1880 recorder. the sound quality is great but what it comes down to is creativity, talent, soul and ability. those things matter wayy more then what type of recording device or software someone uses.

  • go to any recordning studio and its pro tools or logic, but usually pro tools.

  • @silycaon

Been to plenty of them, and I'm a recording engineer myself. Not true. Though Logic and Pro Tools are the big names in the industry, I have yet to see them significantly surpass the preference for other software, nor have I seen them alone in a studio.

  • @Operafuso

    Alright point dexter, relax.

  • It's been evidenced in interviews that he will use whatever gets him the sound he wants, the way he wants it. Included in that list are Logic, Ableton, Garageband, and Pro Tools. I don't see why it is necessary to make him into a spokesperson for Digidesign or anyone for that matter. The music is still good.

  • i just came in my fucking pants.

  • this video gave me a headache nin rules

  • NIN forever :D

    No way!!!

  • I love how everyone loves TRENT! and this suicide666 kid needs to get fucked in his ass with a knife! like TRENT MAKES THE BEST MUSIC AROUND! AND I BEEN TO TWO OF HIS CONCERTS AND HIS LAST ON NINJA IN CAMDEN NJ AND IT WAS THE SHIT!

  • I'm sure you guys are frustrated with TheSuicide666 verbal non-sense and the fact that he probably didn't listen to a single word of it, but it may be more beneficial to point out that the song is really about someone living under an oppressive ever watching government, being told to give in to it, but wanting to resist what he's told to do by it and fight back all the while hoping that the government won't find out about his intentions to make it all come down.

  • ur pretty emo with a name like TheSuicide666. no one asked nor cares about your opinion. so fuck off scene kid.

  • it's not emo. this music has been around since long before "emo" was even a concept - trent started putting out albums under the name "nine inch nails" back in 1989. this song is about getting recruited into the military and losing yourself in the corruption, apathy, and violence. emo is just whining. this music actually has substance - a message and a complexity beyond anything you probably listen to. i guess the bottom line is, eat a dick, or at least know what ur talking about b4 u talk

  • Shut the fuck up you stupid German fag!!! NIN = emo??? Are you fucking kidding me?!?! I think you have a frankfurter shoved high up in your ass and its causing you to suck dick.

  • hahaha, don't even pretend you know what you're talking about thesuicide666 xD

  • I'm sure someone in the audience is having a seizure after that.

    Awesome performance though!

  • Haha!

It'd be a good way to go. Seizure at a NIN concert.

  • epic!

  • without a doubt my favourite song on the album ... and one of my favourite NIN songs out of the lot.

  • MIndfuck!!!

  • the yearzeroremixed version is better

  • i havent yet heard one song with some of the "off shoot genres called noise" by trent that i havent loved.

to create that compilation of noises and form it into a tune, that goes so far as to speak to the deepest parts of some people is just phenonemal!

(yes i know thats not how you spell it!)

  • I keep watching this video! Just epic!

Glad I saw this alive too! Fuck yeah!

  • This is what I thought the music video would look like! It might be my favorite on the album.

  • cybernetic orgasm!!!
