If I make it to heaven I'd like Mahalia as my tour guide. She makes the streets of gold and pearly gates sound like the place to be. I have loved her voice and testimony since childhood. At 62 am looking forward to moving up higher.

A bazillion years ago when I was still living at home with my parents .. I used to get up at midnight when I could wake up, and watch Mahalia end the broadcast day on one of the local TV stations in Portland, OR. Loved her then .. Love her now, and she still touches my heart with joy.

My grandmother (who'll be 90 years old this year) would sing gospel songs around the house in that old bluesy way when I was a kid. I didn't recognize the influence was from Mahalia Jackson until I got older. I truly appreciate her so much more now. I've got to get my hands on some Mahalia Jackson discs to send to her. My grandmother would love them.

I hate the way I post a text in response to something and it appears as a rndom comment that makes no sense! There was a comment which referred to the Ovation program on Mahalia Jackson and it was that comment to which I was referring. This ramdim comment system sucks, just in case anyone cares!

This is how gospel is supposed to sound. Ms. Jackson sang with her heart, because she believed that better days were coming despite the suffering of our people. God bless her!
Ovation TV had a two hour special on Ms. Jackson entitled "The Power and the Glory" playing this month. A wonderful documentary on the life of this extraordinary woman.

First time I heard this song was in a uncommon place: Moscow, USSR around 1966. Born in Rwanda, Central Africa, the music sounded so familiar, so close to me that I couldn't help crying. I was sure I have heard that music before but where and when? No idea. Maybe before I was born... And now, that same feeling again. Glory to the Lord.

I truly miss the bluesy tone of gospel in its early day. MJ arguably the best gospel singer ever could very well had been the greatest blues singer if she had chosen the secular route.

When I graduated from high school, I listened to her before bed. It wasn't that I was spiritual; I was troubled! Little did I know that I would come to Christ one year later in Germany. I really do not believe anyone has picked up her manta. There are hundreds of gospel singers, but the ability to paint pictures with words is exclusively Mahalia Jackson. I appreciate the fact you said God found you. Thousands of others will be found , for God plans to set Latin America on fire.

This is the one of the many gospel songs that I would hear early sunday morning when I was a little girl. My mom played many of the old gospel groups and of course the famous Ms. Mahalia Jackson and I fell in love with her voice instantly. She was truly annointed with Holy Spirit and blessed with the Holy Spirit in her voice. God Bless the beautiful angel that God has sent for us to treasure and enjoy for the time she was here. I can't wait to see her on the other side.

I grew up listening to Miss Jackson's music. I was three or four when she died, but I have all of her music on CD. No Gospel performer can approach her talent. She will always be the best!
