  • In other words, let the default settings for a better image? Please, reply! I have a LCD HDTV and all of my old consoles looks horrible on it. Even the Wii, mostly when playing NES games on it (the Wii connected to my HDTV) Help =(

  • @ChampionRevilo Mine was a CRT, and could scan as low as 540p to get a "sorta" close image.. An LCD on the other hand isn't going to make things better, because it's going to be at minimal, a 720p image, which means a lot of upscaling.

  • @hakemon Well, it looks exactly like it would be on a crt tv if I lower the sharpness to the minimum but, it gets even more blurry =/

  • this video sucks

  • you are using a crt tv

  • @3l415926535897932384 Yes, but its still an HDTV and has deinterlacing and processing delays

  • @hakemon Light gun only works on crts becuase it has cathrade tube

  • Yeah.. all this shit for something you can emulate.. and play easily with an LCD GUN... wow.. Even FCEnes supported LCD light guns in '07 at the time of this release.

  • am i the only one to own a green zapper?

  • *pushes glasses up at the nose*

  • Where Can I Buy A Scaler?

  • I've got an extra one down in my basement. Faroudja is a popular brand. Many people make HTPCs out of computers to do the exact same thing.

  • @mattcintosh2 give me ur email and I'll send you my information if you wanna mail it to me.

  • Always seemed to be the trick with using any HDTV for traditional light guns is that they require just the right ammount of white light (or green/blue/ir depending on sensor) that only a front-projection tube is capable of.

It also kind of irked me that I had to explain to people with computer-related technical jobs in the past why their superjoy3's light gun wouldn't work on that new LCD they got...I guess everyone can't win...Thankfully I still have a 22" CRT (definitely not leaving me) :)

  • I have a light gun...... for a Nintendo....A Nintendo which is somewhere in the States right now.....supposedly getting OC'ed..... It's on some work bench now as I type this, getting fitted and tweaked on.........

The honest tech, who I have great communication with and who gives me updates periodically, said he'll be finished working on it this month.... I can't wait to get it back! :) YAAAAY!!!!

  • i just got this game. it works really good on my flat screen tube they came out about 5-6 yrs ago...this game plays perfect......

  • i never really understood how the zapper works

  • When you press the trigger, the screen goes all black with a white square on the duck's position(s) for a fraction of second.

The gun then has a sensor that can sense if you're pointing the white square.

  • @dacasman search for 'how the zapper works' =D

  • @dacasman THe tv flashs and the gun picks up the light...your not shooting at the tv, its the other way around

  • Disregard my last comment. I forgot that your scaler was borrowed.

  • I know this video is old, but I'm going to post a comment anyway. I'm actually looking for a CRT HDTV because light guns don't work on an LCD TV.

But I have to ask you two things:

1.) Where did you find a scaler?

2.) How much did it cost?

  • I find that hard to believe. The no LCD is fast enough to match a CRT's electron gun.

    Prove it.

  • more info about this scaler please, I am very interested.

  • My Duck Hunt isn't working on my LCD TV, what is wrong with it? (I'm actually uploading a video asking why right now)

  • An lcd will never be fast enough to blank the screen with the magic white square for the zapper..

  • what if you have one of those fancy shmancy 120hz?

  • What about OLED LCDs? Those are WAY faster.

  • Not as fast as a CRT... Sorry, a CRT is driven by the video signal thus is instant.

A CRT HDTV only goes into this direct mode like old analog SDTV's, if the native scanrate is induced.

  • Oh, and btw, no such thing as an OLED LCD. You have LED LCD which is just an LCD with an LED backlight, and OLED, which is NOT an LCD..

  • I see.

But both LED LCDs and the newest OLED tvs, the state-of-the-art ones, at least, have a sensibly higher refresh rate (over 100 hz) and pretty low latencies.

    Shouldn't this make a difference?

  • NES only ran at 60Hz video refresh, thus those extra frames from 120Hz and 240Hz TV's is nothing but processed and interpolated. thus latency.

  • See, the NES Zapper, takes a pic in 1ms time.. Unless you can find a TV with 1ms latency, it just won't work, and only a CRT without digital processing, can do that, aka, old analog CRTs, or a CRT HDTV with a "native" mode..

  • I see.

Well, it seems i didn't do a bad thing stopping my father that was giving away my old 4:3 CRT then.

It's still fully working and it has a pretty good, large screen. ^_^

  • is your tv 720p or 1080p.

    wich scaler does it use.

please note that when i connect my nes to my 720p 107 cd samsung tv i will experience manny blockey artifacts in the colors.

does the upscaler avoid those artifacts even if you watching very close ??? like i do.

    thanks!!!!!!!!

  • I just love how well the video captured the loud "ga-pang" noise when you pull the zapper's trigger. Nerdy, yet nostalgic....

  • nice
