Hahaha. This is a Sparta video people. I have seen the Mars Volta live and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to, but that's so irrelevant. Enjoy this video and stop comparing the two bands. Honestly, they were in the same band a decade ago. 10 years ago. What's the point in arguing about whose project is better now?
some dude said that omar and cedric have grown up as a musicians and that he cant say that in jims case ?????wtf lol sparta is amazing, mars volta still sounds experimental as hell, and they totally miss jims talent
haha. for some reason he reminds of the guy from against me. Just the way he puts his face to the microphone and moves when he plays guitar (I don't mean musically, so if you don't like against me's music, don't hate on me)
jim is an amazing singer and has an awesome voice. tmv fans are fucking dumbasses always trying to make a comparison. if you don't like sparta, why the fuck are you watching their videos?
Gotta cut jim some slack though, i recently read an old interview he gave right after Sparta was formed and apparently jim really struggled at times with being a front man. He said that there were several live shows where he just didnt want to sing at all and just wanted to jam.
@tragedyshero72 dude, wtf r u talking about, sparta just plays the same old shit live as on the recording. if u want to hear it u dont have to go to a show, u can just pop in the cd. the whole purpose of a live show is improvisation, being different, at least the mars volta make their shows different from the recordings. sparta's great too, but it takes MUCH more talent to create a mars volta song than a sparta song, sparta is just simple/easy comfortable entertainment.
@Salliewacker the mars volta play true art, sparta's just for entertainment. yes sparta's MUCH better than how easily MOST people are entertained....i dont wanna name names but common pop really brainwashes the fuck outta teenagers.....anyway, sparta's great for entertainment but they're not art. not at all. they play the same stuff live as they do recorded, really not any noticable differences at all, no real improvisation, no uniqueness, they sound like every other "alternative" band out there
@chriswright780 have u noticed he barely ever plays w/ the mars volta live? omar can play all the guitar parts and improvise and make them even better without even any knowledge of theory, thats damn impressive. i dont care how any of u r entertained or if u prefer one band to another, thats not my business, but the mars volta deserves some respect, all these "sparta>tmv and here's why" comments have all been retarded. nobody even bothers to try to make a good point, its just the same bullshit.
Tired of hearing how Sparta will never beat TMV or ATDI blah blah blah - they're the shit. Period. Why does there even have to be a competition? Enjoy the music and the vibes it gives off.
This song freakin' rocks live. Through countless criticisms of how leaving At The Drive-In was a dumb move, and how they'll never be as good as the Mars Volta; They still can put on a damn good performance.
the people who think mars volta are some insanely amazing band must be on as much dope as cedric and omar (or whatever their names are now.)
sparta have great songs, dont play sloppy and always play, regardless of circumstance (dont leave when they're not getting over with the crowd.) sparta is great.
to me, this is a show of how you can play a Sparta album at a social gathering from start to finish without anyone complaining about the 4 minutes of crickets or the wanky saxophone solos.
hes using a Telecaster with the pickguard and toggle taken off. as to why it has a mat finish in the center, i think he mighta taken out athe neck pickup and covered it up?
alright, its a J5 telecaster Deluxe. he took out the 2 upper humbuckers, the toggle, and painted the pickguard black. dont know how he got the headstock in maple.
I agree his voice almost sounds like cedric in teh beggining. but I digress its just a show of how even though one great band gave birth to two how Sparta carries teh At The Dive In roots.
jesus christ, tony hajjar. do those drums owe you money?

Yea, Jim Ward writes great music.
Omar and Cedric just sit on their mexi-american soapbox and cast stones on lesser musicians, including Jim who they would be no where without.
Jim is not only a greater musician, but a greater person.
