For you people that actually think this team of storm chasers is stupid, then maybe you should actually do some research on them! Reed and his other friend who is actually a meteorologist who understands what most storms are going to do are actually educated in this type of stuff. Yes they do stupid stuff but they are doing it to collect scientific evidence on how storms work so that we can increase the time people have to get out of harms way.

People who are calling him stupid don't know what he even does. He is in a reinforced car that can lower onto the ground. It is meant to withstand winds up to 130mph. Watch other storm chasers without cars, they don't get nearly as close as Reed does.

Tornado? That was a windy day to compare to a real tornado! A simple twister lifted up a big waterbus in Venice (IT)in the 70's and killed a lot fo people, and those guys stand inside the car without to fly away, or simply sliding with the car.

About the salary issue, if you can get into a good weather center and acquire a decent position, the pay isn't too bad. Same with news stations too. Though, some don't pay good like you mentioned. It's pretty hard these days to find a good paying job without doing yearssss and yearssss of schooling. But, this is what I want to do too lol.

This video is deceptive, because for one thing, they inserted audio from other scenes, and for another the part where you can't see out the window because the tornado is right there is not from the Dominator, it's from the production vehicle, which does NOT have armor! It's just a normal SUV! You can tell because the Dominator has 2 windshields, and therfore 2 sets of wipers.

If you pause it at 1:40 you see headlights in the distance, that's the production vehicle. Oh, you can also tell b/c Reed turned the Dominator around, so they wouldn't be backing up to get away from it, they'd be pulling forward.

When they get close to the tornado, they lower the whole vehicle down to the ground (hence the flaps all the way around) to keep air from getting under it and flipping it over. They can raise it to go on rough roads or over debris as well. Genius solution, really. Better than the heavy bulky panels on Shaun's TIV2.
